27 year old Alexandra Knox, from Newcastle, moved in with Florence Smith after starting a master's degree. Having quite possibly the largest age gap (差距) of any housemates in the UK, the pair say they hit__it__off and have a great time living together. They watch afternoon TV together, chat over a cup of tea, and do some of the cleaning together—“It's no different from living with university students,” said Alexandra.
Florence has lived in the London home for over 50 years. Having retired from her job at the age of 70, and with her family living far away, she was left on her own. To avoid feeling lonely, she signed up for house sharing with Homeshare, the charity which paired her with Alexandra.
“Sharing your home is a great idea. Loneliness is horrible. Having someone else in the home makes a big difference. You don't have to worry about falling over or hurting yourself. And more importantly, it's lovely to have somebody to talk to during the day,” Florence said.
Florence added, “I was already 67 years old when my housemate was born, and when I told my friends about it, they thought it was strange. But the more they find out about it, the more they think it's a very good idea.”
Alexandra said she was originally frightened by the idea of moving to London and living with an older person, but she thought it has made her experience in the capital much better and has been a great way to cover sky high rental costs. “It just didn't seem like the normal thing to do, living with an older person,” she explained. “But now it's like being with an old family friend. It gives me somewhere homely to come back to in the evening, which is great.”
24.What does the underlined part “hit it off” in the first paragraph probably mean
A.Have quarrels. B.Get along well.
C.Be bored. D.Get used to new environments.
25.Why does Florence share her flat
A.To support students.
B.To cut down on living costs.
C.To get someone to do housework.
D.To have someone's company.
26.What is Florence's friends' attitude to the housemates—Florence and Alexandra
A.Unclear. B.Disapproved.
C.Favorable. D.Doubtful.
27.What was Alexandra afraid of at first
A.The study pressure of her master's degree.
B.Living with an old woman in London.
C.The high rental costs in London.
D.Being away from her family.

Parenting roles evolve from the full control and safekeeping of a young baby to the delicate dance between independence and guidance in adolescence (青春期). Eventually, our children become adults, and if we are lucky, we will have lifelong friendships with them.
Play is a key element of friendship with children. With babies and very young children, we play with them, engaging in back and forth activities. They often start the game, and we join in. They pull us into play, and we love it. In the language of experts who research children from birth to 3 years old, we express delight in these interactions. But delight often hits a snag when our children learn how to say “no”. From this point onward—into adolescence—we focus on getting children to behave. We tend to be the parent, not the friend, often saying “because I said so”. Highlighting our role as taskmasters limits our parenting tools. If we can leave time and space for child driven play and activities—without adult demands or expectations—we can return to delight. These friendly interactions expand our relationship with our children. It's not the same as peer friendship, but we are being friends.
Beyond play, the other foundational component of parent friendship is the child directed conversation. Maintaining a friendly, non judgmental standpoint in conversation with your kids can provide you with a world of trust and engagement. Being quiet and not saying anything are undervalued parenting tools. Instead, we can keep our ears open for informal chatter and then listen with intention and presence. And it's usually best if we don't offer advice unless asked for it. Being curious and compassionate and listening deeply to their stories and worries build emotional bonds, maintain communication, and produce trust, which sounds like friendship.
In my experience as a child, a parent, and a child psychiatrist, I think we can be more than command and control. And I firmly believe that we can treat children with affection and respect, as companions.
28.What does the underlined word “snag” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Misjudgement. B.Demand.
C.Challenge. D.Response.
29.What is a parent advised to do in a child directed conversation
A.Be a deep listener.
B.Start the topic of a talk.
C.Never make any comments.
D.Avoid any informal chatter.
30.What is the author's attitude towards developing companionship with children
A.Doubtful. B.Approving.
C.Unclear. D.Negative.
31.What is the suitable title for the text
A.Parent child Friendship Bonds
B.Lifelong Parent child Relationship
C.Fundamental Elements of Friendship
D.Parenting Roles in Children's Growth

Is forgiveness against our human nature To answer this question, we need to ask a further question: What is the nature of our humanity To put it in a simple way, people consider two completely different views of humanity. The first view is about dominance (统治) and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness, Droll made the interesting claim that humans' key nature is more aggressive (好斗的) than forgiving allows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm. In his opinion, forgivers are giving up their well being as they offer kindness to others, who might then take advantage of them.
The second view focuses on the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans. Researchers find that to fully grow as human beings, we need both to receive love from and offer love to others. Without love, our connections with a wide range of individuals in our lives can fall apart. Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery (奴隶制) worked as a mode of social harmony
From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the biological and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through Robert Enright's scientific studies, is the decreasing of hate and the rebuilding of harmony. Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to the extent the people from whom you are keeping away accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments. Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people.
As an important note, when we take a classical philosophical view, that of Aristotle, we see the difference between potentiality (潜在性) and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capability to forgive, but instead with the potential to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual behavior in unfriendly situations, develops with practice.
32.What is Droll's idea about forgiveness
A.People should offer kindness to others.
B.People who forgive can have their own well being affected.
C.Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity.
D.Aggressive people should learn to forgive.
33.What does the example in Paragraph 2 display
A.To forgive is to love.
B.To fight is to grow.
C.To give is to receive.
D.To dominate is to harm.
34.What's Robert Enright's attitude toward forgiveness
A.Objective. B.Reserved.
C.Favorable. D.Skeptical.
35.What is message of the last paragraph
A.Forgiveness is in our nature.
B.Forgiveness grows with time.
C.Actuality is based on potentiality.
D.It takes practice to forgive.

We live in a culture that encourages us to be strong and independent, but is it possible that we have gone too far
Over independence is the belief that you are the only person you can depend on. __36__ For example, you have depended on someone in the past and been let down, so, as a result, you have a “if you want something done, you have to do it yourself” mind.
__37__ One day, I had just come back from a funeral (葬礼) when a friend called me to see how I was. Being so used to being very over independent at that point, I said he didn't need to worry. Hours later, he turned up at my door simply saying, “I thought you might want a hug.” He was right. __38__
What I ignored was that the great pressure I put on myself to do everything alone was blocking me from forming real and close connections, because in order to ask for help, you need to trust others and let them in.
__39__ But living a life where you don't give anyone a chance to be there for you is extremely lonely, and not the solution. Humans are sociable creatures. With our communities getting smaller and smaller, and our dependence on others becoming greater, it can be really easy to feel alone. __40__ When you feel like no one cares, text someone who you love. The more you give them a roadmap on how to help you, the more they can. So feel free to ask someone for support, and it is so worth it.
A.I felt the opposite.
B.I used to be the same.
C.He taught me to ask for what I want.
D.It is often born out of a painful experience.
E.Learning how to ask for help is rather hard.
F.Letting people in gives them possibility to hurt you.

The next morning, Sam decided to knock on their door and introduce himself. Lily's mother answered the door and invited him inside. When Lily saw Sam, she smiled for the first time. Sam and Lily quickly became friends, and Sam would visit her every day after school. Sometimes, they would play board games or watch movies together. Other times, Sam would help Lily with her homework.

Once upon a time, in a small town, there was a young boy named Sam. He was very kind and loved helping others. He lived with his parents, but they were busy working all the time, so he often felt lonely.
One day, as Sam was walking home from school, he saw a new family had moved into the house next door. They had a daughter about his age named Lily. She was disabled and used a wheelchair to get around. Sam noticed that Lily seemed sad and lonely too.
As the years went by, Sam and Lily's friendship grew stronger. They were always there for each other, no matter what. One summer, Sam's parents lost their jobs and couldn't afford to pay the rent. They were going to have to move away. Sam was upset and didn't know what to do.
When Lily heard the news, she knew she had to help her friend.

From then on, Sam and Lily promised to make the world a better place.
She came up with a plan to save Sam's house. She organized a community event, inviting everyone in town to come and support them. On the day of the event, there were games, food, and live music. Almost the whole town showed up, donating money and giving whatever they could to help Sam's family. By the end of the day, they had raised enough money to pay off the rent for Sam's house. Sam was overjoyed and couldn't believe how much kindness and love there was in the world.
From then on, Sam and Lily promised to make the world a better place. Not only did they start volunteering at the local animal shelter and helped take care of abandoned pets, but also they visited nursing homes and spent time with the elderly residents. Their acts of kindness inspired others in the town to do the same, and soon, the whole community was coming together to help those in need. Sam realized that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life.

解析:细节理解题。根据第一段中的“Those who forgive ... take advantage of them. (那些宽恕的人违背了他们的本性,对他们造成了很大的伤害。在他看来,宽恕者放弃了自己的幸福,因为他们对别人提供善意,而别人可能会利用他们。)”可知,Droll (德罗尔)认为宽恕者的幸福会被影响。故选B。
33.What does the example in Paragraph 2 display
A.To forgive is to love.
B.To fight is to grow.
C.To give is to receive.
D.To dominate is to harm.
解析:推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Even common sense ... a mode of social harmony (甚至常识也强烈表明,控制他人的意愿并不会促成和谐的互动。例如,奴隶制作为社会和谐的一种模式发挥了多大的作用呢?)”可知,奴隶制无益于促进社会和谐,由此可推知,第二段的例子是为了表明控制意味着伤害。故选D。
34.What's Robert Enright's attitude toward forgiveness
A.Objective. B.Reserved.
C.Favorable. D.Skeptical.
35.What is message of the last paragraph
A.Forgiveness is in our nature.
B.Forgiveness grows with time.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
G.The way we deal with this is by reaching out anyway.
