In recent years,a kind of digital money, called“cryptocurrency(加密货币)”has been getting more and more attention. There are many kinds of cryptocurrencies, but the most famous one is called Bitcoin. When Bitcoin’s electronic money was first developed,it was a huge change from other kinds of money. To understand why,it’s helpful to think about the way money normally works.
Money is based around an agreement to pay someone something.Usually, banks or governments are in the middle of this agreement. If you have a lot of money, you might open a bank account to keep your money safe. That’s really just an agreement between you and the bank:the bank will keep track of how much money you have, and give it back to you when you ask for it.
Bitcoin is a computer-based currency that doesn’t involve banks or governments.Instead,it uses a huge network of users connected by the Internet to keep track of all the Bitcoin.Instead of storing this information in just one place like a bank’s computers,it’s stored in a huge computer file that’s usually called the “blockchain(区块链)”.
Anyone can get a copy of the blockchain. In fact, the system counts on lots of people doing just that. The software that drives Bitcoin runs on the computers of people who make Bitcoin. These programs are constantly checking and fixing the blockchain to make sure it’s correct and up-to-date.
Using Bitcoin, anyone can pay anyone else, anywhere, with no banks or governments involved. And because everyone has the same blockchain that’s constantly checked and fixed,it’s almost impossible to trick the system.
Bitcoin users keep their digital money in a special“wallet”app on their smartphones. These wallets let them quickly and easily exchange money with other Bitcoin users around the world. This can be done without giving away information about who is sending or getting the money.
Many more people are now using Bitcoin than when it was first developed. Many businesses now allow people to pay with Bitcoin. Some countries are even considering using Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
4.How does the author introduce Bitcoin
A.By using quotes.
B.By making comparison.
C.By exposing statistic data.
D.By exploring its origin.
5.What is the function of the “blockchain”
A.To store information of Bitcoin.
B.To exchange Bitcoin for money.
C.To ensure the update of a computer.
D.To issue orders to global computers.
6.What is a feature of Bitcoin
A.It can guarantee security.
B.It can be cashed in a bank.

Parents aren’t so simple to think that their screen-addicted teens aren’t glancing at their phone secretly throughout the school day.But now a new study has revealed just how much time students spend scrolling(刷屏),and the numbers might be largely underestimated.
The study, published last week in JAMA Pediatrics, found that teens spend 1.5 hours of the 6.5-hour school day on their phones—and 25% of the teens studied logged phone usage of 2 hours or more.
Messaging and social media—in particular,Instagram—were the greatest drivers of phone usage, followed by video streaming, audio, and email.
The research firm Ipsos recruited students aged 13 to 18 from across the United States for this study. These students downloaded the RealityMeter app on their smartphones, which measured and reported their phone and app usage over 2 or more weekdays. The researchers hoped to gain a more accurate reading of students’ smartphone habits using this tracking method.
The results showed that half of students used their phones for at least 66 minutes over the course of the school day,an increase from a previous study of only Android users, which showed a median of 43 minutes.
There are certainly some benefits to students having access to phones—they can allow parents to communicate with their kids if needed, and even can be a helpful learning tool. However, the researchers pointed out that high levels of social media use—the average student spent 25 minutes on Instagram—suggests that for the most part, smartphones aren’t exactly being used with noble intentions.
The researchers noted that the study only took personal smartphone use into account, and didn’t consider overall screen time such as time spent on school laptops or tablets.
As to the use of smartphones,it is said that New York will make a plan.Governor Hochul said,“From parents and teachers,to social justice and law enforcement leaders,New Yorkers agree that our young people succeed when they’re learning and growing, not clicking and scrolling.”
8.Which feature of a smartphone interests teens most
A.Email sending.
B.Video chatting.
C.Social media using.
D.Video streaming.
9.What does the result show
A.Smartphones haven’t been made full use of.
B.Smartphones aren’t always used for good purpose.
C.The majority of teens use smartphone over 60 minutes.
D.Smartphone use takes up most of students’ screen time.
10.What will be the most likely content of New York’s plan
A.Students’ phone use will be restricted.
B.Only teens are allowed to own a smartphone.
C.The teens will be guided when using smartphones.
D.The government will equip each student with an iPad.
11.What is the author’s attitude toward students’ smartphone habits
A.Tolerant.
B.Objective.
C.Opposed.
D.Unexpected.

In many cases, wolves will drive away unwelcome grizzly bears when they get too close to their pack,or a bear will scare off wolves entering their territory. But a video, which was shot in 2021,shows a grizzly bear and wolves walked together for several minutes. So what’s going on here
It may be heartwarming to think the bear has become an honorary pack member, but in reality,it isn’t.Bears will sometimes steal a wolf pack’s kill if they are hungry enough, according to Daniel MacNulty,a wildlife ecologist at Utah State University.
In Yellowstone, grizzlies are seen more often in the fall as they venture out to consume as much food as possible before winter hibernation.During this period, known as “hyperphagia”,bears take risks to obtain more calories—like stealing wolves’ food.
“There could be a carcass a quarter mile away that you just can’t see,” says Daniel MacNulty.“It’s all this push and pull of risk versus reward—that’s what it comes down to,including the kind of tolerance that you see in that video.”
The wolves are likely also running the same calculations when deciding whether to drive off a grizzly and risk injuring members of the pack if the animal fights back,he adds. It’s not unusual for a hungry bear to steal food from other animals, including mountain lions.
Daniel led a 2022 study in Yellowstone that found a bear’s presence can decrease a wolf pack’s overall kill rate, likely because the wolves wait around to see if the grizzly leaves behind some after stealing their kill.Oftentimes, this is less dangerous for the wolves than attempting another hunt,as they can be injured by their prey(猎物).
A grizzly bear traveling around a wolf pack for weeks at a time has rarely been documented on camera. But Yellowstone is different. The U.S.national park’s open grasslands allow for prime wildlife viewing.
“Yellowstone has very large packs of wolves,” Daniel says.“And they have grizzly bears that overlap with them, which is not uncommon, but they do so in very open and easily viewable landscapes. It can be fairly difficult to observe those sorts of interspecies interactions in other places.”
12.What do you think of a grizzly bear hanging out with wolves
A.Hungry.
B.Playful.
C.Frightened.
D.Lost.
13.What does the underlined word“carcass”in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.A wildlife ecologist.
B.A wolf pack.
C.A grizzly bear.
D.An animal body.
14.How does a bear’s presence affect a wolf pack’s kill rate
A.Wolves hope for food left by a bear.
B.Wolves don’t want to share their kill.
C.The bear might make wolves frightened.
D.Animals tend to be frightened away by a bear.
15.Which statement might Daniel agree with
A.Yellowstone is a hot spot for seeing wildlife.
B.Grizzly bears are losing their ability to attack.
C.A wolf pack is often seen hunting bears for food.
D.Yellowstone has the largest grasslands in the U.S.

Storing tomatoes can be quite difficult for many people,as they’re often placed in the chill of the fridge alongside other fruits and vegetables. 16 Cook and kitchen expert Emma, has spilled the beans on keeping those red beauties tasty, insisting that room temperature is where it’s at when it comes to storage.
She explained:“The best place to store tomatoes is on your kitchen worktop at room temperature.Keep them away from any heat source.” To avoid bruises(擦伤) on these delicate fruits and ensure they stay in tip-top condition,Emma recommends laying them out in a flat dish rather than piling them in a bowl. 17
When it comes to the big chill,it’s advised that tomatoes only make the trip to the fridge once they’ve hit peak ripeness. 18 That is because doing so can preserve their deliciousness.Emma warned:“You shouldn’t refrigerate tomatoes unless they’ve been cut.”
19 “If the tomatoes are at their perfect ripeness,or the weather is particularly hot—I actually DO recommend that you store your tomatoes in the fridge,” says Emma.
Keeping tomatoes fresh at room temperature requires some simple steps, though.Firstly, remove the stems from the tomatoes as they can draw moisture(水分) away. 20 Storing the tomatoes in this way not only helps keep moisture but also protects the bruises from bacteria by minimising its exposure.
A.However, she admits there can be an exception.
B.They don’t know doing so can ruin their taste.
C.Second, wash them before we put them in the fridge.
D.But if it’s already at its best, you don’t need to worry!
E.This strategy promotes airflow and keeps damage at bay.
F.Then place the tomatoes upside down with the stem side on a flat dish.
G.And even then,it’s crucial to bring them back to room temperature before you cook.

根据第三段末句“it’s stored in a huge computer file that’s usually called the ‘blockchain’”可知,区块链的作用是存储比特币的所有交易信息。
根据文章第三段“Messaging and social media—in particular,Instagram—were the greatest drivers of phone usage”可知,青少年使用手机的主要驱动力是发信息和社交媒体。
文章第六段提到“smartphones aren’t exactly being used with noble intentions”,即智能手机的使用并非总是出于正当目的,与B选项内容一致。
根据第二段中“Bears will sometimes steal a wolf pack’s kill if they are hungry enough”可知,饥饿是造成熊与狼同行的原因。
根据第六段中“...likely because the wolves wait around to see if the grizzly leaves behind some after stealing their kill”可知,熊的存在会降低狼群的整体猎杀率,可能是因为狼会等着看灰熊是否会留下残羹剩饭。
