第一节(共15小题;每小题2. 5分,满分37. 5分)
A
If someone were to ask me what it is like to be a student in today’s society, I would probably answer them something like this: Being a student in today’s society is not always easy.
Adults often tell us that we don’t know what stress is. But we as teenage students have our own levels of stress. For example, all school activities require you to uphold your grade point to high standards.
Then, getting your homework turned in on time seems simple, but you still hope to have a life outside of school as well. Let’s not forget about peer (同龄人) pressure. All high school students meet with it at some point in their lives.
From my point of view, it is a whole lot more stressful to be a student in high school than adults believe. Our “stress” may not include paying bills or taking care of a family, but I’m sure if the adults in our lives could go back to school today, they would be surprised at how much it has changed.
I don’t want you to think for a minute that there aren’t good moments and memories while we are students. My mom always tells me to enjoy it while I can. I know that the world outside of school is often hard and that the responsibilities are serious. That’s exactly why I know that the focus I give to my future is important in leading me to a career that will allow me to contribute to society.
1. What challenge do high school students face concerning school activities
A. They must take advantage of their own levels of stress.
B. They need to keep high academic performance.
C. They are required to participate in every extracurricular activity.
D. They should think from their parents’ view.
2. What challenges do students experience with homework
A. Homework deadlines are flexible but under peer pressure.
B. Homework is easy to finish but hard to balance with personal life.
C. All high school students have to rise to challenges in their lives.
D. It takes too much time for the students to finish their homework.
3. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Teenagers today have fewer responsibilities than their parents.
B Adults should not compare their individual experiences to modern students.
C. Being a student involves both significant stress and rewarding experiences.
D. Students should focus on academic success for future careers only.

In the USA, many high schools and some colleges and universities have a special celebration (庆典) once a year called Homecoming. Former students and teachers come back to the school to enjoy the memories of their time there and the many Homecoming activities. Homecoming might last for only one day or for several days, even one week.
High schools usually choose one boy and one girl from the senior class to be the “Homecoming King” and “Homecoming Queen”: The students usually choose a boy and a girl who have done a lot for the school.
Most schools have a Homecoming parade (游行). The school band will often lead the way, followed by many different cars and trucks.
Most schools also have a football game for Homecoming — and, of course, tailgate parties. A tailgate party is a group of people drinking and eating around the back of someone’s pick-up truck.
There are many other activities that might be a part of the Homecoming celebration. There might be a school-wide picnic one day; another day, there may be plays, concerts, competitions or games, all depending on a school’s traditions.
Homecoming celebrations nearly always end with a dance and/or a great dinner. The school is decorated beautifully, and a band is paid to come and play. Students dress up: guys in suits and girls in beautiful dresses.
4. Homecoming in the USA ________.
A. is held only in high schools B. is held to celebrate the birth of schools
C. might last from one day to one week D. might be prepared for students only
5. “King and Queen of Homecoming” are chosen according to ________.
A. their contributions to the school B. their healthy bodies
C. their excellent. grades in study D. their good-looking faces
6. All the activities might be found at the Homecoming except ________.
A. an exam B. a football game C. a picnic D. a parade
7. The “tailgate” is most probably ________ a truck or a car.
A. in front of B. in the middle of C. on the top of D. at the back of
C
Everyone has “down days”. Maybe it’s because of the bad weather, or the poor grade on a difficult test, and some days teenagers just act uninterested in life or school. But these symptoms (症状) often pass quickly, as teens move on to new school subjects, or meet friends, preventing themselves from thinking what troubles them at the moment. But if a teenager displays symptoms of sadness for more than two weeks, it might point to something serious.
As teenagers develop, they push new boundaries (边界), complain about rules and look for more free rights from their parents. According to the online Health Guide on Adolescent Development, parents must be lasting figures in their teenagers’ life, providing safe boundaries for teens to grow, even if the teenagers act like these boundaries are unwanted.
Parents need to provide rules, while also remaining flexible (灵活的) and respectful of the growing teens’ need for freedom. For example, teenagers will often feel frustrated, embarrassed, and even angry that though they want freedom, they still need to ask their parents for agreement to go to a friend’s house, or need their mothers to take them to school.
The US Department of Education says that parents should respect (尊重) and support their teens’ choices as long as those choices won’t have long-term harmful effects. For example, even if a parent doesn’t prefer the music his or her teen listens to, it’s unlikely that the choice of music will prevent that teen from entering a good college, or lead to health problems. However, if that teen is drinking alcohol and driving, parents must get through strict punishments to teach him/her that there are bad results of poor choices that come with increased freedom.
8. Why do teens’ feelings of bad days usually disappear quickly
A. Their teachers help them. B. They take some medicine.
C. Their parents talk with them. D. They shift their attention.
9. What does the example in Paragraph 3 show
A. Freedom must be given at any time. B. Teens are mad about being controlled.
C. Teens need both freedom and proper rules. D. Rules must be absolutely strict for teens.
10. What should parents do about their teens’ choices
A. Support their helpful hobbies. B. Tell them which college to attend.
C. Cancel their extra-curricular activities. D. Get them away from singing pop songs.
11. What is the best title for the text
A. How to Be with Growing Teens. B. Causes of Teens’ Sadness.
C. Teens’ Worries About Strict Rules. D. The Importance of Making Friends with Teens.
D
Adults are often ashamed to ask for help. Seeking someone’s help can make you feel like you are broadcasting your inability. New research suggests young children don’t seek help in school for the same reason.
Kayla Good, a graduate student at Stanford University, and Alex Shaw, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, applied a classic technique to learn more about how children think about reputation: Across several studies, they asked 576 children aged four to nine, to predict the behavior of two characters, Tom and Jack, in a story. Tom genuinely wanted to be smart, and Jack only wanted to seem smart to others. In one study, they told children both characters did poorly on a test, and asked which of them would be more likely to raise their hands in front of their class to ask the teacher for help.
The four-year-olds were equally likely to choose either of the two characters as the one who would seek help. But by age seven or eight, children thought Jack would be less likely to ask for help. And children’s expectations were truly “reputational” in nature — they were specially thinking about how the characters would act in front of peers. They could still imagine situations where Jack would seek help: when it could be sought privately (on a computer rather than in person), children thought both characters were equally likely to ask for it.
Given the findings, it seems quite possible that when children themselves are the ones struggling, they, too, might avoid seeking out help if they are concerned about reputation. If so, the unwillingness to seek help when others are present could clearly hold back learning progress. To improve in any field, one must work hard, take on challenging tasks, and ask questions. However, the situation can be difficult when someone is concerned about their impressions on others.
12. What were the children asked to predict about the two characters
A. Their bad behaviors. B. Their learning progress.
C. Their likeliness to get help. D. Their potential for seeking help.
13. Who was likely to seek private aid according to the eight-year-olds
A. Tom. B. Jack. C. Both. D. Neither.
14. Which of the following can be inferred from the passage
A. Children never seek help when in trouble.
B. Reputation concern doesn’t affect kids’ learning.
C. Those caring about others’ views may progress harder.
D. Challenging tasks aren’t needed for improvement.
15. What is the author’s suggestion for kids
A. Be ready to help others. B. Be brave to ask for help.
C. Care more about reputation. D. Make efforts to be smarter.

If you do want to revise, design a workable schedule for your revision and stick to it. There are different ways to revise. 第二节(共10小题;每小题1. 5分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
The most successful way to teach your children about purpose is through modeling. Children are keen observers — they don’t just hear what we say; they see what we do. If you want to teach your children about purpose, the most ____36____ (power) way is by living it out yourself.
When you pursue (追求) activities and hobbies ____37____ light you up — things that feel purposeful to you — your children will notice. They’ll see you deeply engaged in something that brings you joy and fulfillment, and that can spark their own ____38____ (curious). Your example might not lead them ____39____ the exact same passions you have, but it will give them the courage ____40____ (seek) out their own. It will show them that it’s not just okay but necessary to pursue what is meaningful to them.
This is what I like to call generational growth. Instead of passing down limiting ____41____ (belief), you’re passing down the idea that purpose is something you ____42____ (active) create. By being ____43____ example of a purposeful life, you give your children permission to do the same when they grow ____44____ (old).
This approach is incredibly effective because it’s not just about telling your kids how to live — it’s about showing them how. And even if their path _____45_____ (look) different from yours, they’ll have the confidence to pursue their own journey with purpose.
