Julie had always wanted a bicycle, but her grandfather wanted her to save up for it herself. So he bought Julie a piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach in and get the money out. The only way to get the money was to break the piggy bank open. Her grandfather explained that was the whole idea: the piggy bank would help save her money so that, at the end of the year, she might have enough for that bike she dreamt about.
For some time, this worked fine. Julie loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it became heavier, she grew more excited, dreaming about buying her new bike, and all the adventures she could have on it.
Julie thought she wouldn't break the piggy bank for anything. But one day something unexpected happened. Julie saw a piece of news on the television that a serious earthquake had happened in a nearby province. As many houses were destroyed, a lot of children became homeless. Seeing their shabby (破旧的) clothes and crying faces, Julie was sleepless that night.
Julie knew she should do something. She went to her piggy bank and was about to break it and take out the money when her mind came back to the bike, and she hesitated. Thinking of the look in the eyes of the children hoping for help in the earthquake, Julie grabbed (紧抓) the piggy bank and threw it to the ground. Suddenly, the coins rolled all over the floor. “Yes, those children need help and need the money more,” Julie said to herself.
Julie's grandfather was astounded by her behaviour. When he realized what had happened, he touched her head and said, “Good girl, you did the right thing. Grandpa is proud of you.”

After Miles Fetherston Resch learned that sharks were in trouble, he was confused by how people treated the oceans and the creatures that lived in them. “I saw a polluted beach,” he said. “The adults are doing something about it. Why can't I?”
With the help of his mom, Miles then started an organization called Kids Saving Oceans. What started with $13 from his piggy bank as a 6 year old boy has grown to $26,000 raised for ocean conservation (保护). He would sell things like hats, T shirts and water bottles made out of recycled materials for a good cause. Before he turned 18, he wanted to raise $1 million for ocean conservation organizations. Miles, now 12, is in the business of saving oceans.
Miles has even met with leaders in Washington, D.C. and helped co write a book called Kids Saving Oceans: Olivia Makes a Difference. “It's about a kid named Olivia and she doesn't want to just help her dad in the kitchen. She wants to change the world a little bit so she does her research and finds out the oceans are in trouble. She starts with a basic beach cleanup and it rockets off from there,” Miles said.
Madeline Stoddard, Miles' teacher, said other students in her classroom were inspired by Miles. “It shows that it doesn't matter how young you are. Everyone can do something to create change,” Madeline said.
Miles lives in Florida now. He has loved the ocean for as long as he can remember. He said, “Getting into conservation was just kind of personal to me.” But to other kids who want to do this kind of work, he said, “If you have an idea, go for it. The worst thing you can do is have it not work out. And that's not a loss.”

B.To make big money.
C.To protect the oceans.
D.To influence the adults.

For eight year old Toby, who is deaf, watching films or TV can sometimes be a bit pointless, because so many of them don't have sign language versions (手语版本). “We have subtitles (字幕) but it goes too fast,” his dad said. But now, Toby has some help thanks to an app developed by a 17 year old student, Mariella Satow, who created a signing app called SignUp.
She got the idea when she was teaching herself American Sign Language (ASL)—one of hundreds of sign languages used across the world. Mariella wanted to watch TV shows to help her learn, and she was disappointed to discover there is only few signed versions. It's taken a year for Mariella to develop the technology, with lots of help from ASL teachers and the deaf community.
The app is available in the US as a browser extension with an interpreter (翻译) appearing in a box once the film starts playing. It only works on Disney Plus films at the moment, because that's where Mariella thought she could help the most deaf children.
Deaf people in the UK face many of the same barriers (障碍) when it comes to cinema and TV. A 27 year old girl Stacey says she has learned British Sign Language (BSL), and is comfortable using subtitles when watching TV shows and films. But she feels having an interpreter would make things “more inclusive”. Stacey and Toby aren't the only people to be welcoming Mariella's app. It's now got thousands of users.
Stacey says a UK version of an app like SignUp would make films and TV “more accessible” for the deaf community. Mariella is up for the challenge and hopes to make a British Sign Language version of her app for other streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. “There are more than 300 sign languages used worldwide, so it'll take a long time to get all of those versions out,” she says.
32.Mariella created SignUp because of ________.
A.her interest in inventing things
B.lack of signed TV shows for the deaf
C.her childhood memories in a cinema
D.the encouragement from her teachers
33.Which of the following statements is mentioned according to the passage
A.Mariella invented the app all by herself.
B.Mariella wants to help the most deaf adults.
C.The app only works on Disney Plus at the moment.
D.The app has got few users now.
34.What will be Mariella's next challenge
A.To update the app for cinemas.
B.To make a BSL version of the app.
C.To launch a universal version of the app.
D.To promote the use of her app worldwide.
35.Which of the following words can best describe Mariella

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
While walking along the street, the bitter cold of a December day in Barrow was ruining my mood. The temperature was below zero so I rushed into the subway station, hoping to get warm.
Warmth came to my body as I settled onto a bench with a cup of hot coffee. Now I was ready to relax and do some serious people watching. I noticed a homeless man seated nearby. The pleasant smell of delicious food from the subway food court (美食广场) was attracting me to consider an early dinner. From the longing look in my neighbor's eyes, it was obvious that he, too, noticed the good smell. I wondered how long it had been since he had eaten anything, expecting he would approach me for some food. But he never did. My head and heart were battling it out: the former telling me to mind my own business, and the latter urging me to make an immediate trip to the food court for him.
While this inner debate was fierce, a well dressed young couple suddenly approached. “Excuse me, sir,” began the husband. “We just finished eating and our appetite wasn't as big as we thought. We hate to waste food. Can you help us out and put this to good use?” The kind stranger handed a large container with food. “Thank you,” came the grateful reply. Feeling good about what I had seen, but disappointed by my own lack of action, I observed my neighbor's response to his sudden good fortune.
He lifted the soup, cupping his hands around the steaming bowl. It was obvious that he was going to enjoy this miracle meal. He opened mouth and suddenly, he stopped.
The reason for this unexpected behavior soon became clear. Entering the hall was a new arrival, in his seventies, without a hat and gloves. His lightweight jacket was a poor protection against cold. His face and hands were red and damaged. People around focused on him with pity and whispered at this sad sight.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
My neighbor was the only one taking action. I went to buy food from the food court, with tears welling up in my eyes.

An Inspiring Act of Kindness
Last Friday, on my way home from school, I came across a little boy in tears. He had lost his way after school. Without a second thought, I decided to help him. We found a nearby store where the kind shopkeeper allowed us to use the phone to call his parents. They arrived as soon as possible, feeling relieved and grateful.
This experience taught me that even the simplest act of kindness can have a profound impact. I felt a deep sense of joy and accomplishment, knowing that I had made a difference in someone's life.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

I went to buy food from the food court, with tears welling up in my eyes.

My neighbor was the only one taking action. Quickly putting aside his miracle meal, my neighbor stood up and guided the elderly man to share his seat. Hardly had he seated himself when my neighbor tenderly put his jacket over the elderly man's shoulders. He said with a smile, “Can you help out?”, passing the meal and placing the steaming cup of soup in his hands. The old man obviously was astonished, but he accepted it with gratitude. Seeing this, I was so ashamed of myself. At the moment, my head and heart stopped battling, determined to buy a meal for my neighbor.
I went to buy food from the food court, with tears welling up in my eyes. What my neighbor said exactly spoke my mind. Despite a sense of guilt in my heart, I felt it was my job to do the same. After a while, I came back with steaming soup and a sandwich. I approached my neighbor respectfully, “Can you help me out?” I asked. “Why not?” He responded jokingly. People around cast admiring look on me, which made me relieved. It wasn't until that day that I truly understood the meaning of sharing. I left the subway station, feeling warmer, even if the bitter cold wind filled the air.

Why can't I ”
With the help of his mom, Miles then started an organization called Kids Saving Oceans.

In today's world, it can be challenging to stay motivated and positive. However, one powerful tool that we can use to overcome these challenges is encouragement. Encouragement can make a significant difference in someone's life. __36__ Encouragement can come in many forms, such as words of affirmation (肯定), acts of kindness, or simply showing support. In today's society, where negativity is common, a little bit of encouragement can go a long way.
One of the most significant benefits of encouragement is that it builds strong relationships. Encouragement creates a positive environment where people feel valued and appreciated. When we encourage others, we are showing them that we believe in them and that we care about their well being. __37__
Another benefit of encouragement is that it creates a chain reaction. __38__ This chain reaction can spread throughout a community, workplace, or family. By building each other up, we create a supportive and empowering environment.
__39__ The first step is to be intentional about our words and actions. We can start by offering genuine words, expressing thanks, or simply listening attentively. We can also seek out opportunities to encourage others, whether it's through volunteering or offering support during tough times. By taking small but consistent actions, we can make a significant impact on the lives of other people.

Can you help us out and put this to good use ” The kind stranger handed a large container with food.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

[精彩范文]
My neighbor was the only one taking action. Quickly putting aside his miracle meal, my neighbor stood up and guided the elderly man to share his seat. Hardly had he seated himself when my neighbor tenderly put his jacket over the elderly man's shoulders. He said with a smile, “Can you help out ”, passing the meal and placing the steaming cup of soup in his hands.
I approached my neighbor respectfully, “Can you help me out ” I asked. “Why not ” He responded jokingly. People around cast admiring look on me, which made me relieved. It wasn't until that day that I truly understood the meaning of sharing. I left the subway station, feeling warmer, even if the bitter cold wind filled the air.
