The chaos of travel through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) calms down when you walk into the Orchestrina. At the start of a 1,000-foot-long hallway connecting Tom Bradley International Terminal’s (航站楼) Great Hall to its west gates, the light softens to blue. What amazes passengers is the gentle waves of music that greet them as they are carried through the terminal by the moving sidewalk. Along the way, the music shifts between 30 compositions from well-known artists.
The Orchestrina, a piece of public art equipment from L.A. radio and Dublab, is part of a new three-year contract for the station to program live music and sound art at LAX. It’s an introduction to L.A.’s experimental music and art scenes. As passengers are on edge over the many things going wrong in the skies these days, the Orchestria offers an experience of tasteful, mental peace.
“That’s absolutely the intention, to offer, like, a break from the fast-paced urban schedule,” said Cohen, executive director of Dublab, “There’s a really interesting effect when you enter the hallway, coming down this long set of stairs and entering this blue light that completely surrounds you with music and field recordings where you can hear birds and wind passing through grass.” There are many events planned for the three years to come, as Dublab tries to make one of the most awful locations in the county somewhere you might intend staying longer and listening.
“We desire to reflect our city, and I think we’ve got to bake the arts programming in as part of that. At the end of the day, we’re all just human beings using these public spaces.” explained Sarah Cifarelli, LAX Art Program Director. “That’s part of the point, though — to show off the city for anyone looking closely and make it gentler for anyone passing through. These are the things that you kind of live for, you work for, being part of the heartbeat of the city,” Cohen said, “It’s another step towards being integrated into the city whether intentionally or not.”
4. What impresses the passengers when they walk into the Orchestrina
A. The long hallway. B. The blue light.
C. The moving sidewalk. D. The relaxing music.
5. What will Dublab’s three-year project bring according to Cohen
A. A refreshing interaction with nature. B. A momentary escape from busy routine.
C. The increase in LAX’s commercial value. D. The promotion of local artists and their music.
6. What is the arts programming aimed at
A. Making full use of public spaces. B. Prioritizing showing off the city.
C. Being mixed into the city’s identity. D. Speeding up the city’s development.
7. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text
A. Dublab’s Music: a Relief from Stress B. Exploring LAX: Finding Peace in Light
C. LAX’s New Art Program: Peace in Chaos D. Orchestrina: a High-tech Design in the City

While we race into a future where we outsource most of our problem-solving to artificial intelligence, the greatest threat is not super intelligent machinery. It’s mindlessly putting too much trust in Big Tech and not enough trust in the power of our own minds.
A philosophy of artful thinking is a good way to avoid this. To think artfully means to solve problems using not just our brains, but also our hands, eyes, and ears, along with our emotions. This approach taps into the cognitive (认知的) resources that are spread throughout our bodies but often go unused.
Changing how we think is hard work. And it starts with a mindfulness practice. Accessing artful intelligence requires being mindful of how we think with our body, how we use our limbs (四肢), organs, and emotions to make sense of the world. Be mindful of all the different messages your body is sending you as well as the different roles and functions your bodily actions can play. For example, gesturing (做手势) in conversations is not just communicative. These movements often help the speaker to smooth out their thought process and assist in getting the words out.
Today, Big Tech is pushing a message of artificial-intelligence craziness and fear. What makes you stuck in it It’s seeing the same things wherever you look. Big Tech gives you screens, hoping that your attention will always be attracted by their devices. If you want to find more freedom in this AI-filled world, improve your ability to mindfully shift your attention between different objects or levels of focus. Remember everything is born of a choice.
Artful thinking demands effortful mindfulness to ensure that what we do, what we hope to achieve by using these technological tools, will not weaken our humanity. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Mindful living is an art, and each of us has to train to be an artist.”
8. What can we learn about artful thinking
A. It simplifies problem-solving. B. It focuses on developing our brains.
C. It prevents us from over-relying on AI. D. It helps promote high-tech machinery.
9. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Benefits of artful intelligence. B. Mind-body awareness in thinking.
C. Significance of being mindful. D. Social interaction through movements.
10. What does the author suggest we do in the AI-filled world
A. Enhance the flexibility of attention. B. Adapt to the rise of AI.
C. Avoid the interruptions from Big Tech. D. Improve the levels of focus.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Artful Thinking Advances Big Tech B. Too Much Trust in AI Harms Our Minds
C. Physical Actions Better Cognitive Functions D. Mindfulness Keeps Us Human in the Age of AI

In Costa Rica, even small areas of tree cover can reduce the presence of invasive (入侵的) mosquito species known to spread diseases like dengue fever (登革热), according to a Stanford University-led study published on May 28th in Landscape Ecology. The findings can inform land use decisions and tree preservation strategies in rural areas, according to the researchers.
Using field observations and satellite data on land cover for an area of forests, farms, and residential areas in southern Costa Rica, the researchers found the presence of the Aedes albopictus mosquito, a dengue vector (媒介), decreased in areas with more tree cover while the total number of mosquito species increased. More species demand more space and resources, making it harder for an invasive species to find unoccupied space or resources.
Costa Rica has numerous mosquito-borne diseases and two invasive mosquito species serving as vectors. The forests surveyed in the study hosted a high diversity of mosquito species, none of which were the dengue vector Aedes albopictus. Residential areas, by contrast, had much fewer mosquito species and were far more likely to hold the invasive, disease-spreading species. Agricultural areas fell somewhere in between, with outcomes seemingly tied to the intensity and type of land use.
Natural habitats exist alongside agriculture and development in rural areas. In Costa Rica and beyond, these areas can provide pathways to conserving biodiversity. The study shows that protecting trees can help conserve biodiversity while also reducing the likelihood of disease spread. That’s good news in the face of warmer temperatures, changes in rainfall, and human activity that are enabling the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses to new places.
The researchers emphasize the need to do more research to understand how other vector species react to increased tree cover. “We need to know more about what drives dengue in rural areas,” said study senior author Erin Mordecai, associate professor of biology in Stanford University. “This work shows forests and tree cover can reduce risk, but identifying other land use types that sustain vector populations is the next frontier for controlling this rapidly expanding disease.”
12. How does increased tree cover prevent invasive mosquitoes
A. By reducing dengue vectors.
B. By increasing species competition.
C. By upgrading human habitats.
D. By ensuring agricultural outputs.
13. What can be known about residential areas
A. They have lower mosquito diversity.
B. Their land use is more intensive.
C. Their living conditions are poor.
D. They host fewer disease risks.
14. What is the significance of the study
A. It helps agricultural development.
B. It solves the problem of disease spread.
C. It offers a potential win-win strategy.
D. It leads to the study of climate patterns.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Mosquito-borne Disease Risks Increase
B. Protecting Trees Improves Life Quality
C. Disease-spreading Species Are Coming
D. Tree Cover Limits Invasive Mosquitoes

“Anxiety.” The very word causes discomfort. Its effects—shortness of breath, pounding heart, muscle tension—are upsetting. Research shows that in and of itself, anxiety is not deadly, and it certainly is not a disease. ____16____. Once we accept the idea, we can use it to do well. Here are three aspects anxiety can help you.
It can build your emotional strength and toughness
Working out at the gym is supposed to be hard and uncomfortable, since it involves pushing our physical strength past what you can easily do. ____17____, if you want to build emotional strength and toughness. The experience of occasional anxiety and tension increases your emotional strength.
____18____
Humans are social creatures. The number one predictor of happiness is not financial success, or fame. It’s the quality of our relationships. In the same way, sharing our anxieties with our loved ones is one of the most effective strategies to build connection.
It can help you readjust and rebalance
Often, all of us find ourselves at the end of our rope. Our responsibilities pile up, our resources break down, and we just don’t have enough time to get everything done. We feel uncomfortably anxious most of the time. In such cases, what we’re experiencing is called stress. ____19____. The only real solutions to stress are to decrease our demands or increase our resources. Therefore, when we feel anxious because of stress, it’s our body’s way of telling us to readjust and rebalance. When we notice our internal cues, we become more focused overall and less stressed.
Therefore, anxiety can be a healthy, helpful emotion that is a constructive aspect of human life. ____20____.
A. Anxiety can have a more specific meaning
B. It’s about time we start to put it to good use
C. It’s no wonder that anxiety is causing us much concern
D. It can increase your emotional relationship and connection
E. Similarly, you need to face some degree of mental hardship
F. Quite the contrary: it is an indicator of brain and sensory health
G. Simply put, the demands placed upon us outweigh our available resources

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When entering seventh grade, I was excited about many new things, but one thing really bothered me — I started getting acne (青春痘). Initially, it was just a little, but then, it seemed like overnight, my face was covered with it. I tried to hide it with my hair, but it just wouldn’t work.
I was consumed with worry that my peers would make fun of me. I couldn’t concentrate in class as my mind was constantly preoccupied with my appearance, causing my grades to slip sharply. I started to feel inferior to my classmates and even avoid interaction with them. I tried to get rid of the acne. I washed my face multiple times a day, using all sorts of acne creams I found. I also avoided snacks that might cause it. But all ended up in vain.
One day, our school announced a sports day and the teacher asked us to form our own teams. As a sports enthusiast, I had been eagerly expecting it, but I was scared that no one would join me because of how I looked. Standing in front of the mirror, I kept imagining how my classmates would react when I asked them to team up with me. The fear of rejection held me back from approaching them.
But then, Kim came to me, “Do you want to join us for the relay race (接力赛) I’ve seen you run before and you’ve got the speed. If you join us, we’ll have a good chance to win.” In disbelief, I managed to utter “Yes”, still feeling self-conscious but also incredibly grateful.
Along with three other classmates, I signed up for the relay race. We trained and discussed strategies together, with no one paying any attention to my acne. Thanks to my speed advantage, I was even assigned to run the final leg — the most critical role in the race.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then came the long-awaited sports day.
