(24-25九年级上·浙江宁波·期末)I used to be really shy. When I first came to this new school, I became even shyer. But once I talked to my classmate in a math class. And then, I was punished to write a five-page passage about “Why I Shouldn’t Talk in Class”. It seemed like it would take me all night!
After getting home, I spent some time feeding and playing with my cat first, so that I can avoid the hard task. When I finally started writing, I began with the reasons my teacher Ms. Black would like. I wrote that talking in class stopped me and my classmates from learning. After finishing one paragraph, I found it difficult to continue. I thought for a long time and then got an idea. What if talking led to a bad life like becoming a criminal If I didn’t get an education and dropped out (辍学), I might steal things and go to the prison (监狱). And when I got out, people would say, “She used to talk in class.” The pages began flying by.
When my mom came home from work, I was still complaining (抱怨), “Five pages It’s impossible!” Mom said, “You should keep writing. I want to read it when you finish.” After dinner, I gave the passage to mom. I thought she would scold (指责) me or at least tell me to learn a lesson. But she laughed and laughed while reading.
The next day, when Ms. Black read my passage to the class, everyone laughed. I knew they weren’t laughing at me. They were laughing because I had the ability to tell a funny story. My confidence still needed to grow, but I knew I wouldn’t be shy while writing.

(24-25九年级上·浙江杭州·期末)Have you ever wondered how plants and animals live This is where the idea of a food chain comes into play. A food chain is a step-by-step order that explains how energy moves from one living thing to another. It shows how plants, animals, and even tiny things are connected.
The food chain begins with the producers (plants). Without plants, no other living thing could live because they produce the energy for all other living things. And plants use sunlight to make their own food. Animals that eat plants are called herbivores (食草动物), like rabbits and deer. Herbivores are at the second level of the food chain.
Some animals, like foxes and eagles, eat herbivores. These animals are called carnivores (食肉动物). They are at the third level of the food chain. Some carnivores, such as lions and sharks, are at the very top of the food chain. They have no natural enemies. They help control the number of animals below them in the food chain.
If one part of the food chain is broken, it influences everything else. For example, if grass dies because there is little or no rain in a season, rabbits won’t have food. Without rabbits, foxes will have less food to eat. Then the terrible results will continue on and on. That’s why we need to take care of the environment. When the food chain is stable, nature stays balanced and healthy.
By studying the food chain, scientists can better understand the influence of human activities on the environment. Besides, the food chain can guide us in making wise decisions about nature.
8.What is Paragraph 1 mainly about
A.The steps of the food chain. B.The problem of the food chain.
C.The order of the food chain. D.The meaning of the food chain.
9.How does the food chain work
①Herbivores eat producers. ②Carnivores eat herbivores. ③Producers use sunlight to make food.
A.③→①→② B.③→②→① C.①→③→② D.②→③→①
10.What will happen if grass dies in the food chain
A.There will be little rain. B.Rabbits will be better protected.
C.Foxes will lose their food. D.The number of deer will grow.
11.What does the underlined word “stable” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Easy to break. B.Full of producers. C.Strong and unchanging. D.Bad for animals.
(24-25九年级上·浙江杭州·期末)It’s common that parents and children disagree with each other. That’s what we call conflicts (冲突). Some of the conflicts are small and easy to end. Others may need parents to take action and help. To someone’s surprise, by solving them together, family conflicts can help children learn important life skills.
Some simple childhood games show how conflict and repair work. For example, in peek-a-boo, a baby might feel a little unhappy and worried when he can’t see his parent. But when the parent returns, everything is OK. As children grow older, they play games like hide and seek or tag. There are small moments of upset followed by great fun and joy. These games help children prepare for all kinds of problems in the future.
As children grow up, they develop their life skills by working through conflicts. When a conflict is too serious for a child, parents may step in. To set a good example, parents could try to remain cool first—don’t be too excited or angry. Next, they can say some kind and nice things to make children feel better. Now here comes the chance for parents and children to sit down. Then they can have a face-to-face communication. This helps them rebuild the love and trust for each other. In this way, children learn that sometimes things go wrong. But if they deal with them properly, they can always rebuild healthy and strong relationships with others.
A healthy process of going through conflict and repair with their parents promises children’s happiness and social success in the future.
12.Why are family conflicts helpful according to Paragraph 1
A.Because they can help parents learn. B.Because they can teach children skills.
C.Because they can solve parents’ problems. D.Because they can bring family to an agreement.
13.How does the writer tell the conflict and repair work in Paragraph 2
A.By telling stories. B.By showing facts. C.By listing numbers. D.By giving examples.
14.What do parents do first when children can’t solve conflicts
A.Walk with them. B.Make children happy.
C.Say nice words. D.Cool themselves down.
15.What can be the best title for the text
A.The Lessons in Daily Life B.The Life Skills in the Future
C.The Art of Conflict and Repair D.The Fun of Simple Games
(24-25九年级上·浙江·期末)Chen Yuyan, 25, the founder of the “We Love Walking in the Park” interest group on Douban, never expected that the interest group would now have 100,000 members. Park lovers from both home and abroad share their park experiences, post photos taken in parks, and give likes and reviews of parks. Within this group, there is an idea called “20 minutes for parks”. It suggests that spending just 20 minutes in a park each day can help lower stress, no matter how you choose to spend that time.
Huang Bingbing, a Shenzhen-based practitioner (实践者) of this idea, began visiting the small park downstairs from her company office during her weekday lunch breaks over three years ago. “On that piece of grass, I could connect with living plants and animals. Cheng believes people can further deepen their connection with parks by developing a sense of ownership. She recalls her experiences of visiting parks in Japan. She noticed that park benches, given away by local people, had their givers’ nameplates. (24-25九年级上·浙江·期末)The Chinese game Black Myth: Wukong topped the best-selling list in 29 countries on the game platform Steam. Within just a few hours of its launch, it has more than 1.1 million online players at the same time. The game’s presentation (呈现) of Chinese culture has not only impressed Chinese players but also loved by a large number of foreign players. As a result, many international games are now reading the original book Journey to the West as a “required course” before experiencing the game.
This success is not the only case. (24-25九年级上·浙江金华·期末)You’re at your new school. It’s lunchtime, but you don’t have anyone to sit with. You want to join someone at their table, but you’re not sure if they’re friendly. What do you do One student’s solution was to create an app.
Natalie Hampton from California, USA, knows what it feels like to be alone at a new school. She found it difficult to make new friends and had to search for a new table at lunch every day. If she had lunch by herself, she felt lonely. But if she asked to join someone and got refused, she felt embarrassed (尴尬). Her solution was to create a lunch-planning app to help students like her find people to have lunch with.

(24-25九年级上·浙江宁波·期末)Pat McGee noticed her daughter hadn’t returned to the dentist’s waiting room just before her surgery (手术) was supposed to start. She walked to the bathroom and found Jessica McDaniels, 22, in there, crying. McGee took her daughter into her arms. “We’re going to say goodbye to the old Jessica,” she said. “And hi to the new Jessica.”
McDaniels, from St. Louis, US, had been wishing for this day since high school, when the bullying (霸凌) about her teeth started. Now that it was finally happening, she was nervous.
It was a social media post two months ago that got her there. Someone posted a photo of McDaniels with a comment about her overbite (龅牙)—a serious problem that affects the teeth. The post was shared many times, with many people making unkind remarks about her appearance.
The bullies didn’t know the road McDaniels had traveled. She had nine surgeries on her ears from age 2 to 12 years old. She was almost deaf in her right ear. The surgery was long and difficult. It took weeks for the swelling (肿块) to go down, and several more months before McDaniels’ new smile was ready. Later that year, she looked at her old photos online and smiled. “I loved her,” she said. “She’s grateful to be in less pain, to be on the path to a new smile. You may feel that math is difficult and boring. Is it possible that you’ve been looking at math in the wrong way Li Xing, a math professor at Ning Xia University, thinks math can be beautiful and fun. I complete agree with what he said.
Numbers are beautiful
There is math hidden in beautiful human bodies. Measure (测量) the length from your head to your belly button and from your belly button to your feet. The ratio (比例) of these two numbers is always around 0.618. This is the golden ratio, which can be seen everywhere, like in nature, music and paintings.
In Chinese poems, we can also see the beauty of numbers. As Li Bai wrote, “My skiff (小船) has left ten thousand mountains far away”, “A thousand miles in one day”, —all these numbers show how fast Li Bai traveled and how happy he felt.
Curves (曲线) are beautiful
“Sine curves” are beautiful. They go towards the two opposite directions on and on without ever ending. When you look at them, you may feel like standing by the sea and watching the waves slowly moving. “Tangent curve” is like a waterfall, just as Li Bai wrote, “dashing (猛冲) down three thousand feet from on high”.
Formulas (公式) are beautiful
There are some amazing formulas. In a right-angled triangle (直角三角形), the square of the longest side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides. How amazing! Just as Chinese-American mathematician Chern Shingshen said, “Math is fun!”
32.If the ratio of a thing is around 0.618, ________.
A.it has a golden color B.it only happens in human bodies
C.it looks like a human body D.it might bring people a sense of beauty
33.Why does the writer mention Li Bai and his poems in the passage
A.To introduce the topic. B.To support his opinion.
C.To share the beauty of Li Bai’s poems. D.To offer advice on learning math.
34.What does a tangent curve look like
A.B.C.D.
35.What is the passage mainly about
A.Why math is beautiful and fun. B.Why math is difficult and boring.
C.How we can learn math in a right way. D.How math helps us live a better life.

Bless you, Mr sea sponge Achoo! Scientists from the Netherlands have found that sea sponges (海绵) can sneeze (打喷嚏). They work a bit like chimneys. The little holes on their bodies bring in food from the water, and the big hole on the top lets out waste. But sometimes, the sponges need to sneeze to push out sand and rocks from their bodies.
Feel thirsty on the plane When we fly on a plane, our body can lose eight percent of its water. One reason is that the air inside the plane is dry, and we lose water when we breathe. As the plane flies higher, there is less oxygen in the air. So we need to breathe more often, and more water gets lost. What’s more, sitting for a long time makes it harder for blood to move around the body and can cause dehydration (脱水).
Burping is worse in space In space, it is hard to burp (打嗝) nicely. On Earth, gravity (重力) helps pull food and drinks down our stomachs and makes air go up and get out of our mouths. But there is no gravity in space. Everything floats (漂浮) around and mixes together. When astronauts try to burp, food and drinks can come up, too. So, they have to burp with their mouths closed.
36.Why do sea sponges need to sneeze
A.To bring in food from the water. B.To breathe more often.
C.To push out sand and rocks from their bodies. D.To lose their water.
37.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text
A.Scientists from England have found that sea sponges can sneeze.
B.When we fly on a plane, our body can lose 18% of its water.

(24-25九年级上·浙江湖州·期末)Many kids say they don’t like the taste of broccoli. Now scientists think that there could be a good reason for those so-called “picky” eating habits of kids that drive mothers crazy.
When chemicals in broccoli mix with some people’s saliva (唾液), they give out awful smells in the mouth. The study found that the more awful smells a child’s mouth produces, the more they dislike the food.
But why do some people’s mouths make more of these smells than other people’s mouths The team collected saliva samples (样本) from 98 pairs of parents and children. Every person’s saliva has a microbiome (菌群) in it. The researchers believe this decides how strong the smell is when a person eats broccoli. Maybe our picky eaters are simply those who have the microbiome that increases awful smells.
The team studied the samples of the adults’ and children’s saliva with broccoli. They found that people who were relatives produced almost the same amount (总量) of the smelly chemicals. Though parents and their children seemed to produce similar levels, the parents didn’t mind the taste of broccoli as much as their kids did. The adults may have gotten used to it over time.
Experts believe picky eaters may come to enjoy the food they avoid if they try it enough times. Say your child hates broccoli—if you offer them broccoli enough times, in different forms, they may come to enjoy it in the end. What’s more, children learn by observation. If they see you eating a balanced mix of healthy foods, they’ll be more likely to follow. However, watching you having lots of cola, snack foods, and dessert will make them wonder why they can’t do the same.
42.What probably makes kids dislike broccoli according to the passage
A.Unusual shapes of broccoli. B.Unpleasant smells in mouths.
C.Unhealthy ways of cooking. D.Uncomfortable eating environment.
43.What can we learn from the passage
A.Kids may accept broccoli by trying it enough times.
B.Only picky eaters have a microbiome in their saliva.
C.The microbiome in adults’ mouths will reduce awful smells.
D.Relatives produce different amounts of the smelly chemicals.
44.What does the underlined word “observation” in the last paragraph mean
A.Watching others. B.Playing games.
C.Asking questions. D.Taking notes.
45.In which part of the magazine can we read the passage
A.History. B.Science. C.Culture. D.Business.
(24-25九年级上·浙江湖州·期末)Dear School Board Members,
①I read that you plan to make big budget (预算) cuts to our music education programs. I am writing to ask you not to make these cuts. Music education should be part of every child’s education. Studies show that music helps develop children’s language, thinking, and memory skills.
②Children who take part in a band learn teamwork. They have a sense of school pride and a group of friends with the same goals. Singing or playing an instrument helps to improve a person’s listening skills, too.
③Children who play musical increase their fine motor (精细动作) skills. Learning to play music also helps children believe they can achieve. It is helpful in every part of life. What’s more, self-confidence helps them to face challenges in all areas of life.
④There are more good points to learn to play an instrument. For example, children learn to set a goal and work towards it. As they practice, they master not just the instrument but reading music as well. Trying to learn a piece of music helps a child to face a reasonable stress and overcome it. And we all know that the ability to deal with stress is an important life skill.
⑤Music also improves math. Musical notes are based on fractions (分数). As a result, students who study music score 23 points higher than average on the math part and 63 points higher than average of the speaking part of the SAT.
⑥Visit the website of the National Association for Music Education. It lists even more facts about the benefits of music education. Please do not cut music programs. The day we lose music education will be a sad day for us.
Sincerely,
Linda Lopez, Parent

(24-25九年级上·浙江台州·期末)①In China, when students finish college, they usually either keep studying or start working. Getting a master’s degree (硕士学位) has been very popular in the last few years. But now it seems that this is changing.
②On Nov 21, the Ministry of Education said that 3.88 million people will take part in this year’s exams to get into master’s degree programs. This sounds like a lot, but the number is 500,000 less than that of last year and 860,000 less than the year before.
③One reason for the drop might be that studying for a master’s degree has become very expensive, CCTV reported. For example, to study for a financial (金融) master’s degree at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics takes 228,000 yuan in total. Many universities don’t give their students free housing, so students have to pay a lot of rent (房租).
④Also, having a master’s degree might not help much in getting a good job now, according to Xiong Bingqi, director of the Century Education Research Institute. “Many people with high degrees are ending up in low-paying jobs,” Xiong told Changjiang Daily. Because of this, some students are choosing vocational schools (职业学校) instead. They think learning specific skills might help them get jobs more easily.
⑤In this case, experts suggest that colleges should do more to help students learn what they need for future jobs. Also, schools should change their programs to match what companies are looking for.
50.What does the writer want to show with the numbers in Paragraph 2
A.Getting a master’s degree is less popular. B.More people are studying for a master’s degree.

Bamboo is a useful plant, so it is a good thing that it grows fast. Bamboo is the tallest grass in the world. The fact that it is so tall is not surprising. It grows up to 12 inches (30.4 cm) in a single day! Because bamboo needs warmth and water, it grows in many parts of Asia and in some parts of the United States where it is warm and moist.
Bamboo is good for the environment because animals depend on it for food. For example, red pandas and giant pandas eat the stalks, stems, and leaves.
Even though bamboo is so useful, a mystery surrounds (围绕) it. No one knows what causes bamboo to flower, so we cannot predict when a bamboo forest will flower. It could flower after 60 years or after 120 years. The problem is that animals do not eat bamboo when it flowers. And, all of the bamboo in a forest will flower at the same time. This causes the animals in that forest to go hungry. Researchers are working to solve the mystery.
People also benefit from bamboo. For example, people feed bamboo leaves to some animals like sheep while they themselves enjoy its sprouts, especially in spring. Bamboo is also used to build homes. Bamboo is made into high-quality paper, too. In the United States, people have bamboo flooring and kitchen counter tops. Bamboo can also be made into fabric (面料) that keeps a person’s body cool in summer and warm in winter.

(24-25九年级上·浙江杭州·期末)Some of us live in big houses while some of us live in small houses. Some of us live in apartments in very tall buildings while some of us live in bungalows next to the sea. But most of us live in houses that look like…well...houses. But not everyone. Some people like things that are a little different, and that includes their homes. For example, there’s a house that looks like a strawberry in Japan, another one that looks like a mushroom in Ohio, US, and there’s a toilet-shaped house in South Korea. There’s even a house in Poland that is completely upside down!
Maybe you know the children’s poem about the old lady who lived in a shoe. In Pennsylvania, US, there is a real shoe house. Of course, it’s not really a shoe, just a house in the shape of a shoe. The boss of a local shoe factory called Mahlon N. Haines had the idea of building it. He used it as a guesthouse. When he died, it became an ice-cream shop for a while. These days, it’s a museum.
The One Log House in Garberville, California, US, is a one bedroom house inside the trunk of a 2,000-year-old giant redwood tree. It took two people seven months to remove all the inside of the tree and make a living space that is just over two metres high and nearly 10 metres long.
Joanne Ussary from Benoit, Mississippi, in the US, lives in a plane. It’s a Boeing 727 without the wings. The plane cost $2,000 and it cost another $4,000 to move it on to her land. She spent another $24,000 making it into a home.
It’s not the only “flying” home in the US. And believe it or not, there is a walking house in Denmark. It’s a hexagonal tube (六角管) supported by six metal legs. It can move over most surfaces. It is a building works between Danish artists and scientists. Moving home couldn’t be any easier. When you want to live somewhere new, just push a button and walk your house to a new location.
