On May 24th, 2025, the mixed doubles final of the Doha World Table Tennis Championships took place. The Chinese pair, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, faced the strong Japanese competitors, Yoshimura Masaharu (吉村真晴) and Oto Fujisawa (大藤沙月). After four intense rounds, the “Shatuo combination” defeated their competitors 3-1 (11:7, 11:8, 7:11, 11:8) and successfully defended their title. The day begins early for Minzhe. It is only 5 o’clock in the morning, and he has already started working.
Minzhe owns a large tea plantation (种植园) in his hometown in Guilin, Guangxi. It covers an area of more than 350 square meters. The tea farmer walks through the plants slowly. He carefully presses a leaf between his thumb (拇指) and index finger (食指) and gently picks it.
A tea plant can only be picked once it is about three years old. At each picking, only young leaves can be picked. And the tea plants are usually of different heights. Therefore, tea farmers can rarely rely on machines. Anyone can see that planting tea requires great patience and lots of hard work.
Minzhe knows the quality of tea depends not only on the tea plants. The picking and processing play an important part, too. As an experienced tea farmer, he knows which leaves are to be picked and when to pick these leaves.
April is usually the busiest month for Minzhe. It is the best time for harvesting top-quality green teas. Minzhe has to pick about 90,000 pieces of young leaves to produce one pound of green tea.
Shortly after picking the leaves, Minzhe begins processing them. The leaves are dried, rolled and then shaped. A heavy smell of the cut leaves fills the air in the workshop.

Every week, even every day, we have lots of different tasks to finish. With our busy lifestyle, it can be hard for us to find time to volunteer. 18 Volunteering can offer help to people in need. But for the volunteers themselves, the benefits may even be greater. Why
Volunteering can be good for your health. Studies suggest that focusing on others rather than your own issues can make your stress levels go down, strengthen your immune system (免疫系统) and increase your general sense of life satisfaction. 19
Being volunteers helps you develop new relationships. It lets you meet people from all walks of life. 20 These can help you build close relationships with them, which can have a lasting influence on your life.
21 During volunteering, you can have lots of opportunities to learn useful and important skills. For example, volunteer organizations always provide on-the-job training courses for volunteers before they start the work. Those courses can help you learn some skills for certain jobs. And they’re often offered to you for free.
Volunteering can make your resume (简历) attractive. Are you stuck for what to write on your resume to get the job you want 22 Research has shown that people who volunteer have a better chance of finding a job than those who don’t. Whether you do one thing on a regular basis, or help with various causes for a short period, each voluntary experience you have will impress your future boss.
A.Try to list your hobbies and interests on the resume.
B.Doing volunteer work teaches you valuable job skills.
C.This is because helping someone else makes you pay attention to the positive things in life.
D.And it gives you a good chance to communicate with them.
E.Deal with it by showing the volunteer work you have done.

Parents are important in shaping their children’s lives. They make decisions and plans for their children. However, in my opinion, teenagers over the age of 15 should be allowed to make their own decisions.
To begin with, teenagers over 15 have the ability to make independent decisions. With the rapid development of information and technology, today’s teenagers have a better understanding of the pared with their parents, they are knowledgeable (有见识的) at an early age. So they can make independent decisions.
Making decisions helps teenagers feel confident. When teenagers are allowed to make decisions, they feel more confident in their ability to deal with problems. This can help them develop a stronger feeling of control over their lives.
By making decisions, teenagers learn to be independent. If parents make decisions for their children all the time, they will never learn to be responsible for themselves. They will just depend on their parents for every choice in their lives, no matter how big or small it is.
When teenagers are allowed to make decisions, they may make mistakes. But it doesn’t matter. That’s because they can learn from their mistakes and will do better next time. During the process, teenagers can develop critical (批判性的) thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.
Allowing teenagers to make decisions can improve relationships between children and parents. By giving children respect, parents can show that they trust their children to make good choices. With trust and respect, children will have more communication with their parents.
All in all, teenagers over 15 should be given the chance to make decisions. They have the ability to do so and that is good for them and even their parents.

A.their parents
B.their school education
C.the communication between friends
D.the rapid development of information and technology

Since Apple released its iPhone 17 on Sept 9, 2025, the “Cosmic Orange” color for the Pro model has drawn people’s attention. It is different from more common colors, such as white and black.
Colors are more than just visual effects. According to the American Marketing Association, bright colors can make a product seem better, even if the color doesn’t change how the product works. This happens because the richness or purity of a color may make people more confident in the product.
Why is this According to an article from the University of Leeds, when light comes into our eyes, special cells (细胞) at the back of our eyes react to different colors and send signals to the brain. Most signals go to the visual cortex (视觉皮层), where we see pictures. But some are sent to another part of the brain called the hypothalamus (下丘脑). This part can rein things in our body, such as temperature and mood.
So, this means colors can change how our bodies feel. For example, blue light can make our blood flow and heartbeat slow down. It can also lower our blood pressure and help us relax, according to the University of Derby in the UK. Orange, on the other hand, wakes up our senses, making it great for catching attention.
However, no color has been shown to increase sales more than others, said researchers at the University of Southern California in the US. Still, successful brands often use colors to create their images. For example, Coca-Cola uses red because it increases heart rate and makes people want to eat more.

Here’s how to make a model submarine (潜水艇) that dives and comes up from underwater like a real one.
You’ll need Plastic bottle; Tape; Four coins; Thin plastic tube (管子); Waterproof modeling clay (防水黏土); Small scissors; Tub (盆).
You’ll follow 1. Cut two small holes on one side of the bottle first. Then tape coins to that side of the bottle. At last, take off the cap (瓶盖) and seal (密封) the tube to the bottle with clay. 2. Fill the tub with water; put the bottle in and let it fill with water. 3. Gently blow into the tube and watch what happens. Stop blowing and close the tube with your thumb (大拇指). Lift your thumb and watch what happens.
You’ll see 1. When you blow, air pushes out water; the bottle becomes lighter and comes up. 2. The bottle sinks when it is filled with water. Coins keep holes pointing downward, so air does not escape. 3. When you stop blowing and seal the tube with your thumb, the bottle floats. Lift your thumb, air escapes through the tube and the bottle sinks.

Traditional Opera
As a kid, I didn’t like Peking Opera at all. The actors’ strange ways of speaking and singing, along with their old-fashioned clothes, made me feel that Peking Opera was really uninteresting. I couldn’t enjoy its beauty.
But things changed last year. I watched a TV series (剧集) and the story was set in ancient times. There was a moment when an actress performed a song in the style of Peking Opera. It was amazing! Although the TV series itself was wonderful, it was the Peking Opera element (因素) that really caught my attention. That short moment made me see Peking Opera in a whole new way. I started to realize how cool this traditional form could be.
There are also some modern words in the TV series, showing how traditional and modern cultures can mix very well. This is a good example of how pop culture helps spread Chinese culture. Pop culture has played an important role in spreading Chinese culture. It includes online dramas, online novels and online games. It’s like a bridge connecting young people to the traditional culture. For example, the Peking Opera part in the TV series makes me understand that our traditions are not boring and can be really exciting.
I think we should encourage more such combinations (结合) to let more people, especially the young, know about and love Chinese culture.

We can see circles, squares and triangles (三角形) everywhere in our daily life. Have you thought about their meanings in films 54
Circles represent things that are soft and natural. The round shape reminds us of things that appear in nature, like the sun, flowers, raindrops and so on. 55 All these things make us feel happy and warm. This is why so many cartoon characters’ bodies—heroes, kids, good people—are round in shape, because circles represent goodness, happiness and friendliness.
56 In Up, Carl, an elderly man, has a square face and wears square glasses, while Russell, an 8-year-old boy with a round face, always wears round medals. These shapes show the characters’ personalities. Carl is stubborn (固执的) and lonely, while Russell is lovely and full of energy.
The angriest shape is the triangle. Every kid who draws a monster with sharp teeth draws a row of triangles, don’t they 57 Look at the bad guys in cartoons—they are all drawn with plenty of points and triangles, like Shengongbao in Ne Zha. And triangles are stable and don’t easily fall down. In films, this feature makes bad people difficult to deal with.
Not only in cartoons, but also in other kinds of films, different shapes are used for the same purpose. 58
A.That’s because the shape represents fear, distrust and doubt in some way.
B.Squares show things that are unnatural or man-made, or things that are boring or old-fashioned.
C.In this way, these shapes can help make films better.
D.So, next time you see a film, try to find the hidden shapes and you will know what the characters are like.
E.We can also connect circles with beautiful eyes, babies’ round faces...
F.Much like colors, different shapes can show different features of characters in the scenes.
In the famous Chinese book Romance of the Three Kingdoms, most readers have their favorite characters. Some like kind Liu Bei, who cares about his people; others admire loyal Guan Yu, who never betrays (背叛) his friends; and many look up to smart Zhuge Liang, who plans great strategies. But when it comes to Cao Cao, lots of people say he is a ruthless man who only thinks about power.
However, this might not be the real Cao Cao. A new movie this year called Three Kingdoms: Starlit Heroes will help us see him in a different way. It hit cinemas on October 1, and it focused on Cao Cao when he was around 35 years old—an important time in his life.
Long ago, Cao Cao and Yuan Shao were good friends who once talked about their dreams for the country. But as time passed, they had big different ideas about ruling: Yuan Shao wanted to set up a new emperor (皇帝) to control power himself, while Cao Cao chose to support the current (目前的) emperor, hoping to keep some order in the chaotic (混乱的) country. This huge difference slowly turned them from friends into bitter enemies. Later, they finally fought in the famous Battle of Guandu. Yuan Shao brought over 100,000 soldiers, while Cao Cao only had about 20,000—everyone around thought Cao Cao had no chance to win. But Cao Cao didn’t give up: He studied Yuan Shao’s army carefully, found out where they stored food, and sent his best soldiers to burn those supplies (补给). Without food, Yuan Shao’s army became messy and scared, and Cao Cao took the chance to attack, finally winning the battle against all odds.
The movie shows a Cao Cao who is brave and smart, but sometimes a little cunning. Is he a good guy or a bad guy It’s hard to answer. As historian Yi Zhongtian (易中天) said, during wartime, people’s choices are never simple—they just do what they think is right to survive (生存) and protect what they care about.

C.To break the old idea that Cao Cao is a bad man and show his different sides.
D.To show that Yuan Shao wanted too much power and was not a good leader.

D.It’s hard to judge Cao Cao—his wartime choices were for survival.
Think about the last time you went to an art or history museum. Which pieces of artifacts (文物) stood out to you Did you read the introduction next to them Did it tell you where the artifacts were from and how the museums got them
Today, many museums around the world own art and artifacts that were stolen or looted (掠夺) from their original countries during war or colonial rule. You may see ancient Chinese paintings shown in the British Museum, or sculptures from Africa that date back to the 19th century on display in the Louvre Museum. Many countries have asked European museums to repatriate the artifacts.
The debate over whether and how museums should give back artifacts to their original countries has been going on for many years. Those who suggest returning all foreign artifacts to their homes insist that it is morally (道义上) the right thing to do. Furthermore, the country owning the objects will receive an important part of their heritage back, and these artifacts will be given a chance to be truly valued in their homeland.
Yet there are different voices. Those against the return point out that some foreign artifacts were not stolen but bought a long time ago. Also, it is sometimes hard to identify (确认) the true owners of certain artifacts—should they be returned to the country, a group or an individual There is also a view that culture is a shared treasure and the artifacts are in fact “cultural ambassadors (大使)” that improve understanding. They believe that while taking them away from their countries of origin was wrong, history is full of “good” and “bad” actors. Moreover, they feel that keeping the cultural objects in the current museums has kept millions of artifacts safe from damage.
On the matter of return, some governments have made the move. In 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron told officially that France would give back 26 looted treasures to the African state of Benin. “I cannot accept that a large part of cultural heritage from several African countries is in France,” said Macron. It’s said to be part of France’s long-promised plans to return artifacts taken from Africa during the colonial rule.
Museums all across Europe began reconsidering their previous policies on colonial treasures. In France, twenty-seven artifacts had been identified for return, but only one has been returned. Then, on October 6, 2020, France’s National Assembly officially passed a bill (法案) promising the return of these heritage artifacts, but didn’t fix a certain date. It seems that there is still a long way to go for the return of foreign heritage treasures.
63.The underlined word “repatriate” in paragraph 2 probably means______.
A.protect B.show C.return D.borrow
64.People who consider foreign artifacts as “cultural ambassadors” may agree that ______.
A.mistakes in history need correcting in time
B.heritage artifacts belong to all the human beings
C.artifacts will be better protected in their homeland
D.history museum tours will be popular in the future
65.What can we learn from the passage
A.French museums refused to identify all the colonial treasures.
B.Policies and bills have no use in protecting foreign heritage treasures.
C.The treasures stolen or looted can hardly be back to their homeland soon.
D.Governments have the duty to keep foreign treasures in good protection.
66.By writing this passage, the writer wants to ______.
A.explain how and why many foreign treasures were stolen or looted
B.advise governments to take actions in returning foreign treasures
C.encourage us to take part in the debate over stolen or looted treasures

Short videos have quickly become a daily habit for most teenagers. With just a tap, you can laugh at funny clips, learn quick facts, or follow trending challenges. But behind their entertainment value lies hidden dangers that can affect your life in unexpected ways.
One big problem is the loss of concentration (注意力). Short videos are designed to catch your attention in seconds, with rapid cuts and eye-catching visuals. Your brain gets used to this constant stimulation(刺激), making it harder to focus on tasks that require patience, like reading a textbook, solving math problems, or listening to teachers. Studies show that teens who spend over 2 hours daily on short videos are 3 times more likely to have problems with concentration in class. ①
Another problem is the weakening of critical thinking. Most short videos offer simple, one-sided messages instead of encouraging deep analysis(分析). For example, a 10-second clip about“how to be successful” might make life skills seem simpler than they should be. When you’re used to getting quick answers, you’ll find it difficult to think carefully about information or have your own opinions— skills that are important for exams and real-life decisions.
② Wasting time is also serious. The average (平均的) teen spends 1.5 hours daily on short videos, which adds up to over 500 hours a year. That’s the time you could have spent practicing a sport, learning an instrument, or connecting with family.
Perhaps the most harmful influence is on self-esteem. Many short videos show unrealistic lifestyles— perfect bodies, expensive gadgets, and non-stop fun. Comparing your ordinary life to these “perfect” ones can fill you with a sense of loss. ③ Psychologists (心理学家) say that heavy users often report feelings of anxiety or envy, especially when they can’t “keep up” with what they see online.
④ They can connect you with new ideas or brighten a tough day. The key is balance. Set a daily limit, choose what teaches you something, and remember: what you see on screen is hardly real life. Prioritize (优先处理) activities that help you grow, and you’ll avoid the hidden dangers.
72.Why do students have concentration problems in class after watching short videos
A.They are tired from staying up late. B.Their brains get used to quick stimulation.
C.They are not interested in study subjects. D.Short videos help them to avoid difficult tasks.
73.Short videos have a harmful influence on teenagers in the following ways EXCEPT ________.

C.weakening critical thinking D.lowering self-esteem
74.“Short videos aren’t all bad.” This sentence can be put in ________.
A.① B.② C.③ D.④
75.What can we infer from the passage
A.All short videos are designed to trick teenagers.
B.Spending 1 hour daily on short videos is safe.
C.Balancing short video use is important for growth.
D.Teenagers who watch short videos perform poorly in exams.
Last September Ethan was happy to start a new school year. He would study and play with his friends who were different but interesting. Ethan loved Chinese Kung Fu and laughed a lot. Lucas was quiet but very smart. Max was good at solving computer problems. Noah used a wheelchair, but he never let it slow him down.
One day at school, Ethan heard stories about a group of bullies (霸凌者) who did bad things to others.
It wasn’t long before Ethan first met the group. One afternoon, he stayed late to finish a project. As he was leaving the school, he saw the bullies were asking for some money from a younger student.
If the student refused, they would beat him. Ethan was scared, but he knew he should help. He shouted, “Leave him alone!” The bullies looked angry, but the younger kid quickly ran away. Soon the bullies left.
That evening, Ethan told his parents about the bullies, and they talked to his teachers. Ethan also shared his experience with his friends. “We’ll work together,” Noah said. The four friends then joined the school’s anti-bullying (反霸凌) groups to spread kindness.
By the end of the year, the bullies stopped troubling people. The school felt safer because students stood up for each other. On the last day, the friends smiled in celebration. “We did it together,” Lucas said.
Ethan learned that courage (勇气) isn’t just being brave alone. It’s standing with friends, asking for help and making a difference, one small step at a time.

Do you know villains in comic books They harm others or break the law to get what they want. Another thing is that they often wear costumes in green and purple colors, and some even have green or purple skin. But why do they wear these colors Let’s find out.
First, let’s look at culture and history. In Shakespeare’s play Othello, a character warns another about envy and calls it a “green-eyed monster”. This is where the saying “green with envy” comes from. However, even before this play, people connected the color green with negative (消极的) feelings. The ancient Greeks believed that when a person was sick, their skin might turn green because of too much bile (胆汁). Over time, green has come to stand for sickness, envy—feelings that are often found in villains.
But what about purple The color purple is often connected with power. It is not a color that we see a lot in nature, and in ancient times, purple dye (染料) was very hard to make. This made it rare and expensive, so only the most powerful people could afford it. So, when a villain is shown wearing purple, it suggests they are powerful or think of themselves as powerful. It also shows that they want respect from others.
Now, let’s look at color theory (理论). We have three primary colors—red, yellow, and blue. If you mix any two primary colors, you get one of the three secondary colors—orange, purple or green. Most superheroes wear at least one primary color, and some have all three. If heroes wear bright primary colors, comic artists often use secondary colors like green and purple for villains. This way, even if you don’t know the story or the characters, you can quickly tell the heroes and villains just from their colors.

A.Comic villains wear green or purple only to show they want to be powerful.
B.Purple became a symbol of power mainly because it appears often in nature.
C.Green and purple are secondary colors formed by mixing two primary colors.
D.Before Shakespeare’s Othello, people had no connection between the color green and negative feelings.
