Dear Alex, When my voice changed, my classmates said I sounded like a duck, and it made me really sad. Now I don’t feel like talking much, and I really want my old voice back. What should I do about this Daniel
Dear Daniel, I’m sorry to hear that you are influenced by your classmates’ words. It’s not nice to be laughed at. But try not to be too sensitive (敏感的) that your voice breaks. It’s a natural change and something many people go through. I still remember my friend Ryan at school. For quite a long time during his teenage years, his voice was breaking. Sure, sometimes it was quite funny to hear a little croak (呱呱叫) rather than words, but it wasn’t that big a deal. He found that the more he paid attention to others’ opinions, the more others would laugh at him. If he just ignored other people’s words, then others would stop doing that. So you can learn from Ryan. Don’t pay too much attention to other people’s opinions. You should be proud of the changes your body is going through and not feel uncomfortable. Puberty (青春期) is a natural process everybody experiences. Also, maybe you can have a talk with your parents if you want to understand more about what this means. Your voice changing is only a small part of the process. You will probably get through this part quickly and in no time your voice will be strong and will not change again.Alex

When it comes to learning a foreign language, most people would choose English. Millions of people born in non-English speaking countries learn it just from textbooks and spend hours studying English grammar. However, these are the wrong ways to learn English. Let’s look at some good ways.
English media such as music, videos and TV shows are helpful. I come from a small country in Europe. When I was a little boy, there were few local TV shows or songs in my hometown. So my friends and I almost only watched English TV shows and listened to English songs. This, along with the courses we were taking at school, helped speed up our process of learning English.
Start making conversations in English when you can understand what you hear. While it may seem strange at first, but it would get more natural if you stick to it. I spent a lot of time talking with my friends in English. When we finished primary school we could speak English fluently (流利地).
I learned three other languages when I was in college. Now I can confidently say that the only way to truly master a language is to live as though the language were your mother tongue (语言). So just forget about your textbooks and try acting like you live outside of China. Find ways to expose (使接触) yourself to English as much as possible. It will not only make you a better learner but also give you a fresh view of the language.
38.Is spending hours studying English grammar wrong
39.When did the writer learn the other three languages
40.Why did the writer almost only watch English TV shows or listen to English songs when he was a little boy

The natural world is colorful with humans, plants and animals showing different colors.
Human skin (皮肤) can be many different colors and it changes with the sun, our feelings or our health for example. This is because of pigments (色素). When we feel angry, our heart can send more blood to the face and the pigments in the skin become red. This is why our face turns red when we are angry.
Plants also have pigments. Color is important for them to live on. The bright colors of flowers catch the attention of insects. Bees carrying pollen (花粉) from one flower to another help many plants reproduce (繁殖) .
Animals also use color for their own needs. They protect themselves with different colors so as not to be seen by predators (掠夺者). The snowshoe hare for example, a type of wild rabbit, changes color with seasons for this reason. Some animals also use color as a warning to make predators stay away. Nature, however, is very clever, and predators use colors to attract (吸引) the animals they feed on.
Some uses of color in nature still remain unknown, but one thing is for sure, color not only makes our planet beautiful but it is also necessary for our planet to live on.
42.Why do some people’s faces turn red when they are angry
43.How do bees help many plants reproduce
44.What do predators use colors to do
45.How can we help make our planet more colorful Write 30 words or more.

By 11:30 p.m., my eyes are heavy.”
Lucy’s favorite activity was drawing—she used to win prizes in school art competitions. Even weekends are full: I have math and physics tutoring on Saturday, English on Sunday,” she adds. “Last week, I fell asleep during class. The teacher thought I was lazy—I wanted to cry.” Some students think study pressure is normal. “My dad always says, ‘Pressure makes diamonds!’ laughs Tom, Lucy’s classmate.” But I told him, ‘Diamonds need time to form too!’ We should take 10-minute breaks between study sessions or talk to parents—they might not know we’re this tired.”

Chinese people like the red colour a lot. Even now, Chinese people like to call ourselves Chizi, meaning the red descendant (子孙).
Red represents the motherland and authority (权威). Official uniforms of the Tang dynasty were red. In the Qing dynasty, red was used on official caps to show different rankings (等级). As we know, the Five-starred Red Flag was first raised on October 1st, 1949. Even nowadays, headlines of official documents (文件) are painted in red. This is why they are called red-head documents.
For ordinary people, red stands for happiness. For example, “double happiness” used for weddings is red. The bride (新娘) wears red clothes which are different from the white gowns of the West. During the Chinese Spring Festival, people will give red packets to the children to express good wishes. Couplets (对联) hanging on both sides of the doors are written in red. The word red equals beauty. The expression hongyan, meaning red colour, is a synonym (代名词) of a beautiful girl. Red is also one of the most popular words used in the names of Chinese women. But in traffic lights, red means stop driving.
This is how the Westerners like to use the red colour. It is because red is very bright, and is good for warning purposes. But it doesn’t really have any negative (负面的) meanings.

This week, we asked students at New Star High School about the best ways to learn more English. Many said they learnt by using English. Some students had more specific suggestions. Lillian Li, for example, said the best way to learn new words was by reading English magazines. She said that memorizing the words of pop songs also helped a little. When we asked about studying grammar, she said, “I never study grammar. It’s too boring.”
Wei Ming feels differently. He’s been learning English for six years and really loves it. He thinks studying grammar is a great way to learn a language. He also thinks that watching English movies isn’t a bad way because he can watch the actors say the words. Sometimes, however, he finds watching movies frustrating because the people speak too quickly.
Liu Chang said that joining the English club at school was the best way to improve her English. Students get lots of practice and they also have fun. She added that having conversations with friends was not helpful at all. “We get excited about something and then end up speaking in Chinese,” she said.

In February 2025, China introduced a nationwide policy to give high school students two full days off every weekend. This change aims to reduce the heavy study pressure that students have faced for years. Before the policy, many students in provinces like Hebei only had one day or even half a day to rest each week. Now, schools are required to cancel all weekend classes and exams, allowing students to relax or develop personal interests.
According to the new rules, teachers cannot give extra (额外的) homework during weekends, but schools must keep libraries and sports fields open for students who wish to study or exercise voluntarily (自愿地). In cities like Changsha and Hangzhou, some schools have even started organizing weekend activities such as science clubs, art workshops, and community service programs.
Most students welcome the policy. “I finally have time to play basketball and read novels,” said Li Ming, a 16-year-old student. “I feel less tired and more focused during weekdays.” Studies also show that students who get enough rest perform better in exams. For example, a high school in Zhejiang reported a 15% improvement in average test scores after carrying out the policy.
However, some parents still worry. “Weekends used to be important for reviewing lessons. I’m afraid my child will fall behind,” said a parent. Rural (农村的) areas face bigger challenges.
