A smile shows that a person is happy. For example, a person may smile when he or she is pleased with a grade on a test. Or a person might smile if a friend told a funny joke. People smile for many different reasons. But smiles are more than just a way for people to show that they are happy. 22
First, it is easier to smile than to show unhappiness. 23 On the other hand, it takes 43 muscles (肌肉) to show unhappiness. So give the muscles in your face a rest and smile!
Second, smiles are nice. People may try to look nice on the outside by exercising or wearing nice clothes. However, there is a famous saying: a smile is the best thing a person can wear. 24 Almost no one wants to be around someone who is unhappy all the time.
Third, smiles have power. Both smiling and laughing can easily and quickly spread (传播) from one person to another. If one person smiles, people around him or her want to smile, too. 25 If a person is sad, the best thing to do is to share a smile or a laugh. It is the easiest (and cheapest) way to cheer someone up.
Finally, smiling and laughing are very good for the body. 26 You’ll find that it will be hard to stay mad or sad for very long!
A.Almost everyone wants to be around someone who is smiling and happy.
B.In fact, it only takes 17 muscles to smile.
C.Even if you are mad or sad, try smiling.
D.Smiling helps us make more friends.
E.There are other good reasons to smile often.
F.Similarly, when a person laughs, people want to laugh with them.
Now, exchange trips are getting more and more popular with students. Many young people want to go on these trips. They think it’s a great chance to see new places, meet new people, and learn things they can’t get from books.
Before you go, it’s good to get ready in your mind. Try to be open to new things. Remember, life in another country might be different from home—and that’s okay! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes when you speak the new language. It’s part of learning. Also, be ready to try things you’ve never done before, like eating strange-looking food or joining a new game.
Exchange trips have many wonderful benefits. First, they help you learn a new language better. In your daily life, you have to use the language: talking to your host family, buying snacks at the store, or asking for directions. This is much more useful than just studying words in a classroom. You’ll get better at speaking and listening quickly.
Second, you’ll learn a lot about other cultures. You can eat local food (maybe spicy or sweet, different from yours!), watch how people celebrate festivals, or see how families live. This makes you understand that the world is full of different ways of life, and that’s interesting.
Third, you’ll become more independent. You might need to plan your own time, solve small problems (like forgetting your way home), or take care of yourself when you feel a little sad. Doing these things makes you stronger and more confident.
However, there are some things to pay attention to. One common challenge is culture shock. For example, local customs might be very different from what you’re used to—maybe people greet each other in a strange way, or food tastes completely new. To deal with this, it’s helpful to learn about the country’s culture before the trip. You can read books, watch videos, or talk to people who have been there. Keeping an open mind and trying to understand instead of judging will also make it easier to fit in.
Exchange trips are amazing experiences. They help you learn languages, know more about the world, and grow into a stronger person. With a little preparation, you’ll have a great time and make memories that last forever.
27.Why do exchange trips help improve language skills better than classroom study
A.Classroom teachers are not as qualified as local people.
B.Students have to use the language in real-life situations daily.
C.Foreign countries have better language learning resources.
D.There are no exams during exchange trips.
28.What is NOT mentioned as a way to deal with culture shock

①A week later, I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew the Nautilus (鹦鹉螺号潜艇) had reached the top. I would go out and see the sunrise.
②Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting together in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited, thinking it was a good chance to run away. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. He answered, “I love the sea forests in this island.”
③During breakfast, the Captain explained that he had prepared diving suits with special air tanks before sending the note. These would let us stay under water for ten hours. He also made lights that ran on electric batteries (电池). When Ned realized we weren’t going to land, he decided not to join us.
④Conseil and I put on our diving suits, as did Captain Nemo. We went into a room and closed the door, and then entered another door. We were on the sea floor. It was an amazing experience.
⑤We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed (海草). Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo as he crossed a large grassy area, going deeper and deeper.
⑥At 100 metres down, we could still see quite well. Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” there were huge seaweed, and all their branches were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small bushes grew under the large seaweed.
⑦Three hours later, we lay down to rest. I wasn’t hungry, but very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we explored further.
