Feel sad Hug a tree! These days, many young Chinese people have turned to trees to reduce stress. It might sound strange to most people.
A scientist named Edward Wilson came up with the idea “love of Nature” in 1984. He thought humans are born to love being around other living things- That’s why people often like natural, green scenes more than city views, and why many love cute pets.
A 2021 study found it can increase oxytocin-a chemical that changes how we feel. The more oxytocin we have, the calmer and happier we get-even 21seconds of hugging a tree works!
There’s another chemical called cortisol that shows how stressed we are. When we’re worried, mad, or really sad, our brain makes more cortisol. Hugging trees lowers cortisol, making us feel better.
Trees provide a great environment for those small living things which are hard to see. So hug trees gently-just like hugging a friend!
A.Although tree-hugging is helpful to us, we shouldn’t hurt nature.
B.our love for nature is part of who we are.
C.However, there’s science behind the act of tree-hugging.
D.Studies show hugging trees is good for our health.

“No print, no year” is an old saying well-known to people in Suzhou, Jiangsu. The “print” here is Taohuawu Woodblock New Year Prints (桃花坞木刻年画). These are a special kind of nianhua, or New Year pictures.
Taohuawu Woodblock Prints get their name from the Taohuawu area in Suzhou. Many people there made the prints in the past. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, people from Taohuawu made more than 1 million works a year. They are famous for their bright colors, clear patterns and many different themes. In 2006, they became China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. Sun Yibo, 44, has worked on Taohuawu Prints for over 20 years.
“Taohuawu Prints are nianhua, but they not only show the themes (主题) like door gods, flowers and birds,” said Sun. “They also show popular culture. ” Sun once made a woodblock print to show a scene in the game Paper Bride. He worked on it for at least six months—drawing the draft, carving it on different blocks and then printing the blocks one by one on paper. “Each Taohuawu print follows the ‘one color on one carved block’ rule, ” said Sun. “There are six colors in the scene, so I made six color blocks. ”
It takes a long time to make a woodblock print, so few people want to learn this skill. But Sun and other inheritors (传承人) are trying to make more young people know about Taohuawu Prints. “We have exhibitions and classes at school. I am happy to see some students starting to learn it in class,” said Sun.

Gao and his classmates believe that doing exercise can help them get good scores in Zhong Kao. Also, it is healthy for the mind and the body. “We want to keep doing this. We usually get kind of fat after a long vacation. Now we are not worried about that,” Gao and his classmates say happily.

Dear Lilly,
I waited a year to write this letter to you. A year ago, I lost you and my world was not the same again. It was a sunny day and you were lying in the sun. I started off to see a movie and when I looked back, we looked at each other and then I left.
When I came home, you died alone in your small bed.
As I took your little body to the animal hospital, I just kept thinking how much I would miss you.
When it was time to let you go, I couldn’t. I just sat there and held you.
I still miss you. I miss when I came home, I found one of your toys left on my bed. I used to think that was your gift to me. You knew I worked too hard and needed to play sometimes. I still can’t think about welcoming another cat into my home now. It’s too hard. I volunteer now at the animal shelter (救护站) because I first found you there.
We only got to spend two short years together. I don’t know what your life was like before I found you, but I know what my life was like after I got you. Nothing ever seemed bad because we were together. Please know that I will never forget you, I will always love you and I hope one day to see you again.
Love,
Kelli

Career planning is an important part of personal growth. It helps us know what we want to do in the future and how to achieve our goals. Here are some steps to make a career plan.
First, understand yourself. Think about your interests, skills and strengths. For example, if you like working with children and are good at communicating, you might consider becoming a teacher. If you are interested in science and enjoy doing experiments, a career in research could be a good choice.
Second, research different careers. Learn about the requirements, working conditions and development prospects (前景) of different jobs. You can read books, search online or talk to people who work in the fields you are interested in. This can help you make a more informed decision.
Third, set short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goals are things you want to achieve in one or two years, such as learning a new skill or getting a certificate (证书). Long-term goals are what you want to achieve in five or ten years, like becoming a manager or starting your own business.
Fourth, make an action plan. Once you have set your goals, you need to figure out what steps to take to achieve them. For example, if your goal is to become a doctor, you need to study hard in school, get into a good medical college and complete your training.
Finally, review and adjust (调整) your plan regularly. As you grow and change, your interests and goals may also change. It’s important to review your career plan from time to time and make adjustments if necessary.

Leaving his smartphone and computer at home, Yang Hao, a 32-year-old doctoral student in Shanxi province, took a trip in the old-fashioned way last year. Over the course of 134 days, he visited 68 counties and cities in 24 provinces and regions across China, and read 40 books.
His journey was inspired (启发) by a screen time notification (通知) from his iPhone that he was spending almost seven hours a day on his phone each day. He was shocked. Then he had an idea of leaving his phone and computer at home to face the challenges of a digital-free (无数字化的) life.
Last Nov. 27, Yang set off from Taiyuan with a large backpack carrying clothing, two cameras, maps, his ID card, bank cards, cash, pens, a notebook, and three books. During the trip, Yang experienced lots of challenges. Without a phone, he couldn’t book a hotel online. He wasn’t allowed in the Hubei Provincial Museum because the museum required reservation (预约) in advance and he couldn’t reserve a ticket online. There were lots of situations like this.
On the other hand, leaving his phone and computer behind, Yang got really rewarding experiences. Without travel bloggers, books and museums became his guides. In Hunan province, Yang retraced (重走) Shen Congwen’s trip in Xiangxi Sanji by boat along the Yuanjiang River about 90 years ago. After reading historical documents, Yang followed those explorers’ footsteps and visited Taklimakan Desert in southern Xinjiang. Also, because writing letters was his only way to keep in touch with family and friends, he rediscovered the pleasure of writing letters.
Yang returned home on April 9. He didn’t want to turn his phone or computer on, because he got used to a quiet, peaceful life without the Internet.
His old life soon returned. But now, Yang keeps a degree of distance (一定的距离) from the Internet. He’s busy making a documentary (纪录片) about his journey. “I hope to offer a different perspective (视角) on seeing the world, whether on screen or through my words,” Yang says.
44.How did he take the trip last year
45.Where did he set off
46.What became his guides
47.Would you like to have such a trip without the Internet Why or why not (Please give at least two reasons.)

Last summer, my family and I spent a wonderful week in Scotland.
Before we started, we were a little worried about the language. But when we arrived, we found the people there friendly. We started our trip in Edinburgh, the country’s central city. We walked up a big hill to see the famous Edinburgh Castle. It is huge! We met a friendly Scot and he told us about its long history.
The next day, we drove to the famous lake—Loch Ness. We even took a boat trip. Dad laughed and pointed at the water, joking that we might see the “Loch Ness Monster (怪物)”, just like everyone else came there for. But we just found a few ducks swimming lazily. That night, we went to a special show. People there played the bagpipes, a traditional Scottish instrument. It sounded loud and special. We also watched amazing Scottish dances. I tried wearing a kilt, a traditional Scottish skirt for men. What an experience! I never imagined myself wearing a skirt before!
The food was interesting too. I tried haggis, a traditional dish. My parents liked it, but I thought it was a little strange. I liked the shortbread cookies much better!
I was sad when the trip ended. Scotland is a beautiful place with friendly people. I will never forget this trip. I hope to go back one day!

What does traveling mean The saying “Traveling ten thousand miles is better than reading ten thousand books” answers the question.
What has been learned from books is not enough after all. So “going to the places in the textbooks” has something to do with “traveling while reading”. It works really well in students’ learning journey. It can not only make students have more interest in learning, but also bring them a more lively and fresher experience.
Many people who love traveling will find that what they see with their own eyes is quite different from what’s in the pictures. They can get a lot of surprises at the places and see the beauty with their own eyes. All of these can never be photographed. When they get there, they can enjoy the beautiful scenery that isn’t in any book.
Also, students see, touch and feel the real world. This is very helpful for improving their writing abilities. No wonder some parents said, “Now when my children get home and write compositions (作文), they can write as much as possible.”
What’s more, during trips, they may need to read maps to find directions, ask strangers for help, or change plans when something goes wrong. These little challenges (挑战) let them learn to think quickly and take care of themselves—skills they can’t easily get from class.
Last, there is a more important sense in this kind of traveling: to foster (培养) children’s love for our homes and country. There is no certain answer to the question of what kind of person a kid should become, but“having patriotism (爱国)” should be a part of the answer.
Summary The passage mainly talks about 63 in 4 aspects (方面). First of all, through traveling to the places in textbooks, 64 and get a livelier and fresher experience. Next, seeing, touching and feeling the real world helps students 65 What’s more, 66 . Last but not least, traveling is also a good chance to foster children’s patriotism. All in all, it helps students grow into well-rounded learners.

Joking can be a cheerful thing. However, sometimes people may see it differently. Some people may get hurt if there are too many jokes. When you show you can’t accept the jokes, the jokes might get worse.
We should consider the relationships when joking. Close friends usually enjoy teasing (开玩笑). Healthy teasing can usually make people relaxed. When both sides know it’s just joking, they can understand each other better. The environment is also important for close relationships. It doesn’t matter when your sister calls your nickname (绰号) at home. However, it’s quite bad when a classmate shouts it out at school.
When making a joke, we often see the funny side of it. But others may see it in a different way. Sometimes we forget the other person may not find it funny. People have different life experiences, so they understand jokes differently. For example, imagine someone not swimming at a pool party. Others might tease him or her about being unable to swim. But maybe that person is just afraid of water. Keep in mind that people may have their own reasons for not seeing the funny side.
It’s a good way to build good friendships by respecting others. In daily life, we should pay attention to our words when playing jokes.
67.What may happen if there are too many jokes
68.How do people usually feel about healthy teasing
69.What is also important for close relationships
70.Why do people understand jokes differently
71.How can we build good relationships
China has many heroes in science. Nan Rendong (南仁东) is a famous scientist in China. He is well-known for his great achievements in building the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST). FAST is the largest radio telescope in the world.
Nan Rendong spent over twenty years working on this project. At first, he had to go to many faraway places across the country. These places often didn’t have good roads. He had to walk for hours to get to good spots. He often met bad weather, like heavy rain and strong winds. But he never said anything bad about it. He faced lots of problems. However, he never stopped trying. His hard work and strong mind made it possible for China to have this great thing.
He was not only really smart but also very responsible (负责的). He always thought about the project first. When there was a problem, he was the first to come and find a way to solve it. He devoted (奉献) himself to this career (事业). Even after his death, people still remember him and are proud of him. His story tells us that if we keep trying, we will solve any problem. He is truly a role model of the times.

Eleven children from Nanning, a city in southern China, went on a trip to Harbin, the famous ice city in Heilongjiang Province. People online called them “little tangerines (小砂糖桔)” because they wore orange jackets.
People on social media (社交媒体) talked about these children every day. Everywhere they went, the local (当地的) people treated them with love and kindness. In Harbin, they tried local food and watched fireworks (烟花) in the snow. They even went to an outpost (前哨) in Mohe, the northernmost place of China. There, they sang the national anthem (国歌). The police officers also made snow sculptures (雕塑) and snowmen for the children.
The parents of these children are thankful for the support (支持) they have received from people online and friends in Northeast China. The parents chose orange jackets for safety reasons, and the care from local people and people online made them feel warm. To thank Heilongjiang, tangerines from Guangxi were sent to the province as a gift.
During the three-day New Year holiday, Harbin welcomed over 3 million visitors and made 5.9 billion yuan ($830 million) from tourism.

I often find it easy to give others kind words and support (支持). Surprisingly, these words not only help others, but they also help me.
Helping others helps to build my own strength (力量). When I see someone who is sad or in trouble, I tell them, “Don’t give up,” “Be strong,” or “Things will get better.” These are the words I need to hear when I feel unhappy. By cheering others up, I feel stronger myself.
Helping others also makes me forget my worries. When I listen to others and try to understand their feelings, I start to see my own problems differently. It helps me believe that I am not alone, and I can solve my difficulties, too.
Sometimes I wonder why it is easier to give advice than to follow it myself Maybe it’s because we are often too strict with ourselves. We believe in others, but we don’t always believe in ourselves.
What I’ve learned is when we help others, we are also helping ourselves. We build connections (联系) and find strength together. So I will keep sharing the words I wish to hear—words that can heal (治愈) and encourage both others and me.

This year is special for China’s world of math. It’s all because of one great woman—Wang Hong.
Wang was born in 1991 in Guilin. Her parents were both middle school teachers. She showed an unusual talent for math at an early age. When she was just five years old, she already finished first-grade math and went straight to second grade.
Some people think talent makes life easy. But Wang’s path was far from smooth. In middle school, her grades were not good at first—she was not in the top 100. But she didn’t give up. She worked very hard, and later became one of the top ten students in her grade. At the age of sixteen, she entered Peking University and learned more about math.
In 2011, Wang went to France to study. “I felt a little lost at that time,” the girl said. “I gave up on math and studied architecture (建筑学) for six months. Then I remembered how hard I had learned math before. I only doubted myself because my classmates were all very smart.” Wang became confident again and returned to math. She studied even harder and got her PhD (博士学位) at MIT (美国麻省理工学院).
This past February, Wang did something really amazing. She solved a century-old math problem—the Kakeya conjecture. Mathematicians (数学家) all over the world were so surprised and excited! Now, Wang is a professor at two great universities.
With all her good qualities, Wang Hong is living a future even bigger than her dreams. When a reporter asked Wang Hong to share some advice with junior high school students struggling (费力地) with math, she smiled and replied gently, “__________________________________.”

87.Why is Wang Hong’s story special for China’s math world this year
88.What makes Wang Hong successful in the field of math

Dear Peter,
How was your summer holiday My holiday in Australia was wonderful although it’s cold in July there. This was my first trip to Sydney with my parents. And here’s my visit to the Wildlife Park. We can find some animals and birds there. They live in their natural environment.
We first spent some time with the kangaroos. We could touch and feed them. It was very exciting to be so close to them. There were koalas, too. We mustn’t carry them, but I got to take a photo with one.
There was also a bird show. The keepers showed me different kinds of birds. I saw an old parrot which could “talk”. It made us so amazed. We stayed with the birds for two hours.
The trip was so unforgettable that I hope to go back again. And I’m looking forward to seeing you in two months and knowing your fantastic experience when the new term begins.
Best,
Mike
