Parrots are known for being able to copy some of the sounds that people make—they might make sounds like “Hello” or “How are you?” if they get used to hearing words and phrases (短语) like these. Some birds are also able to learn the names of objects and identify (识别) them.
A 5 year old parrot in the US has been recognized by Guinness World Records(吉尼斯世界纪录) after correctly identifying 12 objects in three minutes. That record breaking bird is an African gray parrot named Apollo. He lives in Florida. He can identify things like books, toys and socks.
He became popular on the Internet, where he has about 3 million followers.Apollo actually broke the record in 2023 but he's one of the stars in The Guinness Book of World Records that came out in September 2024.
The parrot is owned by a couple named Dalton and Victoria Mason. They're content (内容) creators and they've been working hard to train the bird. The owners say they teach Apollo as if he were a child of preschool age.“We teach him as much as we can,” the couple told Guinness World Records and said that they focus on things that Apollo wants to focus on.
Researchers have found that some African gray parrots are able to do better at some cognitive (认知的) tasks than 5 year old children. And Apollo's owners want to keep teaching the bird to see how much he can learn and how many more records he can break.

“I have left to follow my dream of knitting sweaters for penguins in Antarctica (南极洲) and no longer work for the School of Economics.I will be out of office…until my penguin friends are happy.” Weeks ago, a teacher in the UK sent this email to her Chinese student, and it soon became popular online.
You may find this email surprising, but knitting sweaters for penguins is a real act of kindness. The Penguin Foundation and Phillip Island Nature Parks in Australia came up with the idea.
The activity began because of a serious oil spill (石油泄漏) near Phillip Island in the 1990s.During that time, the number and health of baby penguins had a serious drop. When little penguins were covered in oil, their lives were put in danger.
To solve this problem, the foundation asked people from all over the world to knit sweaters for penguins. These sweaters could keep them warm during the cleaning process and stop them from eating the oil.
Luckily, the idea worked.Soon, there was another oil spill near Phillip Island. This time, the sweaters helped save 96 percent of the penguins in the area.
However, some bird protection groups have questioned if these sweaters might put more stress on penguins. In answer to this, the foundation said that the sweaters are only used for a short time.Once the penguins are better, they no longer wear them.

In the Yellow River Basin (流域), scientists studied how human activities influence nature. They looked at the area from 2001 to 2020 and found some interesting results.Though human activities increased in 66.3% of the area, the quality of nature actually got improved by 22.61%.That is to say, with the right actions, we can better protect nature even when there are more people and more human activities.
One interesting finding was that some farmland was turned back into natural land.Because of the government's nature friendly program “Grain for Green”, people are encouraged to plant more trees and grass instead of growing crops. This added 15.994 square kilometers of natural land. The change helped to make the air fresher, the water cleaner, and the homes for animals better.
Another interesting finding was that 45.88% of the area had both more human activities and better nature at the same time. This proves that humans and nature can develop together if humans make good choices, such as recycling rubbish and saving energy.
The study showed that the wild nature in 33.7% of the Yellow River Basin also improved a lot.People started wetland protection activities and the area of wetland became 8.3 square kilometers larger. Many endangered birds came to live and some fish swam back.
In a word, only by carrying out eco friendly activities and making good use of the environment can humans and nature live in harmony (和谐).

One day last summer, my 9 year old son Ben and I were riding the waves at a popular ocean beach on outer Cape Cod.As we were playing happily with our surfboards, I suddenly noticed a surprising sight—some whales were spouting (喷水) well within view of where we __21__.

We each have a part to play in __27__ space. When we get to know we should live together, as Ben did, we try our best to get along with each other. This is as __28__ in the ocean as it is in our __29__.We live, work, play and serve there.

Dear classmates,
April 22nd is World Earth Day and we all know it is important to love the Earth. There is no doubt that protecting the environment is still worth people's attention in the new century. We are still facing many problems.
As teenagers, we are supposed to play an important role in protecting the environment. We can start by saving water, planting more trees, and reducing pollution. We can also save animals and recycle things whenever possible. We can also choose to ride a bike instead of driving a car to help reduce pollution, and be sure to always throw rubbish in the proper bins.
I'm sure everybody is able to do something meaningful to make the world better.
That's all. Thank you!
