In central London, a special trend (趋势) was growing stronger. It was February, and three Dutch friends had an idea that helped people break free from their screens and reconnect with the real world. I joined them as the city leader for the offline club in London, and together we started organizing events that would change lives.
The first event was small, but as word spread, more and more people showed up. We created a space where people could leave their phones at the door and enjoy two hours of pure, screen-free fun. There was live music, solo piano, and people rediscovering forgotten hobbies like reading and writing.
I was 23 when I joined the club. Before that, I worked in a company, producing videos, trying to make them as addictive as possible. But I realized that we needed to find a healthier balance with technology. The offline club was the perfect place to start.
Our events quickly became widely accepted, especially among women aged 25 to 50. They were the ones who felt glued to their phones, and they were the ones who benefited most from our events. I saw their faces light up as they chatted, laughed, and enjoyed each other’s company without phones.
In a world full of screens, the offline club gives us a nice change, and it reminds us that the best connections are often made face-to-face.
4. What is the main purpose of the offline club
A. To gather talented people. B. To organize live music events.
C. To improve parent-child relationship. D. To help people spend less time on screens.
5. What can we know about the offline club after its first event
A. It became popular. B. It was stopped.
C. It was supported by a company. D. It dissatisfied women aged 25 to 50.
6. What did the author do before joining the offline club
A. He sold phones. B. He gave people advice on health.
C. He made videos. D. He ran a technology business.
7. How did the offline club events affect the people
A. They found interesting jobs. B. They felt happy.
C. They lost their hobbies. D. They never used phones again.

Learning multiple (多个的) languages simultaneously (同时) might seem like a difficult task, but it is entirely achievable. In fact, your brain is good at dealing with the challenge.
When you study multiple languages simultaneously, your brain creates separate networks for each language while also building connections between similar language features. This means you’re not just memorizing words; you’re developing different yet interconnected language systems. This process is particularly effective (有效) when learning related languages. For example, if you’re studying Spanish, picking up Italian or Portuguese at the same time can actually quicken your learning, as these Romance languages share similar grammatical structures and vocabulary.
Research supports the idea that learning multiple languages simultaneously can be beneficial. A study of Persian speakers learning both French and English found that studying two languages simultaneously did not slow them down. In fact, it enhanced students’ understanding of each language, suggesting that our brains might benefit from learning multiple languages at the same time.
However, it’s important to consider the ideal number of languages to learn at the same time. Researchers find that two to three languages is a manageable range (范围), depending on how much time you have and how hard you work. If you can spend 1-3 hours a day on language learning, studying two languages means each gets an hour of focused attention. Add a third language, and you’re down to 40 minutes per language. Any more than that, and you risk spreading yourself too thin to make real progress.
When choosing languages to study simultaneously, it’s helpful to consider languages that go well together or are very different. For instance, you might pair Spanish with Italian, as they share Latin roots and similar grammar, or choose contrasting languages like Spanish and Japanese on purpose, where the clear differences help prevent confusion. By carefully managing your time and choosing languages that either go well together or differ from each other, you can effectively learn multiple languages at the same time without tiring yourself out.
8. What point is the example in paragraph 2 used to prove
A. Different languages have similar grammatical rules.
B. Learning multiple languages is like remembering words.
C. Similar words in different languages are easy to learn.
D. The brain can manage different languages at the same time.
9. What does the underlined word “enhanced” mean in paragraph 3
A. Improved. B. Weakened. C. Compared. D. Recorded.
10. According to the finding, learning 2 to 3 languages simultaneously is a good choice depending on ________.
A. age groups B. language types
C. learners’ time and effort D. learners’ ability of understanding
11. What’s the advice on choosing multiple languages to study in the last paragraph
A. Limiting the number of them. B. Focusing on your own interest.
C. Weighing their worldwide influences. D. Considering their differences and similarities.
D
This Spring Festival, Ren Jun’s family chose to travel instead of having a traditional family reunion. They went to northwest China to see ancient Buddhist caves, temples, and a very old tomb in the desert. “Our daughter loves the culture there, so we took this long break to explore,” Ren said.
More and more Chinese people are doing the same, using the holiday to visit places rich in history. Data from travel platforms (平台) indicate that air bookings to cities such as Datong and Quanzhou have doubled since January 1, and by the second day of the holiday, tickets to Beijing’s Palace Museum had sold out, and there were very few left for the Terracotta Army in Xi’an.
People now want to learn more while they travel. Ren’s group had a guide named Xing Yaolong, who is an expert on Dunhuang. He said that people are willing to pay more to see special places like the Mogao Grottoes. New travel agencies like “The Seekers” are offering in-depth tours to places like Shanxi and Yunnan.
Wang Lei, a professor at Beijing Normal University, said, “As incomes rise, people seek to enrich their spirits. Retirees are a big part of this trend.”
Many travellers are also choosing to visit smaller, older towns instead of big tourist spots. A traveller named Daodao shared about a lantern festival in Zhanqi Village on the Internet. “The night is lit up with colorful fish-shaped lanterns, and everyone is dancing to folk music,” Daodao wrote, “To keep this 800-year-old tradition alive, locals are teaching others how to make lanterns and sharing event schedules online.”
For people who stay at home, the Spring Festival Gala on TV showed many cultural traditions and got 16.8 billion views. One viewer wrote, “This is amazing! I want to visit Wuxi and Chongqing now.” Another added, “We need to know where we come from to know where we’re going.”
12. How does the author lead in the topic in the first paragraph
A. By giving an example. B. By explaining an idea.
C. By showing numbers. D. By referring to an expert.
13. What do the data from travel platforms show
A. The ups and downs of air tickets. B. The growth of online shopping.
C. The rise of tourism. D. The change of how people get around.
14. What did Daodao do during this Spring Festival
A. He had a family get-together. B. He experienced village culture.
C. He visited many big tourist places. D. He taught people to make lanterns.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. In-depth Travel for Rich People
B. A Family’s New Choice for Holidays
C. Cultural Traditions Need Protecting
D. Cultural Trips Replace Reunions for Spring Festival

Not only does it provide opportunities to make new friends and improve communication skills, but it also creates a social environment for group speaking practice.

【答案】One possible version:
Encouraged by his mom’ s words, Kemeth went into the kitchen. He gathered everything he needed: noodles, a pot, and some vegetables. With his mom’s patient guidance over the phone, he carefully filled the pot with water. He turned on the stove, just as instructed. When the water boiled, he slowly dropped in the noodles first, and then the vegetables. Soon, the noodles were ready. He said goodbye to his mom and continued to enjoy the noodles with a sense of accomplishment he had never felt before. Afterward, he prepared another bowl of noodles for his mom and left a note beside it. Feeling content, he went to bed.
Returning home, Kenneth’s mom found the note and the bowl of noodles her son had left for her before he fell asleep. The note read, “Mom, I cooked this bowl of noodles all by myself. I hope you like it. I love you.” Her eyes welled up with tears. In that moment, she understood that this simple bowl of noodles was more than just a meal; it symbolized a milestone in Kenneth’s journey toward independence. She walked to Kenneth’s bed and gently kissed his forehead and whispered, “I love you, too, my big boy. You did a wonderful job.”
