I used to hate old books. When I say “old books”, I don’t mean classics, though. I mean books with yellow pages, broken spines and odd wood-like smells that you need to be careful not to break because they are already so worn down and bring you severe discomfort. One can assume that I didn’t own many old books. I had merely a few here and there that my parents had gifted me, but nothing too special.
In the fourth grade,I was ready to explore a new world of reading, one that went beyond the likes of children’s chapter books and teenagers’ topics. Just then, I found my parents’ old copies of the entire Harry Potter book series. Visually, my parents’ books were my worst nightmare. I remember thinking to myself that there was no way I would be able to read these books. However, I eventually had to come to terms with the fact that if I wanted to read the series, I would have to read my parents’ copies. And so began the terrible journey of reading seven old books.
When it was time for me to read the final copy, I was kind of a changed woman. I still strongly disliked old books, but the plot of the entire Harry Potter series had attracted me so much that I had almost entirely forgotten what the books looked like. By the end, I had devoted the entire Harry Potter bookshelf in my room.
Now, I love old books. While the covers are sometimes so worn down that you can barely read the title of the book, you can understand what it’s about anyway. After all, an old book is a representation of generations of readers who have chosen to live in a specific fictional world because the story it contains is just that good. Old books have meaning and I love how much they mean to me now.
24.What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs
A.She had a bad relationship with her parents.
B.She felt uneasy about possessing worn-out books.
C.She developed a taste for reading classic literature.
D.Her parents frequently handed her old books as gifts.
25.How did the author react upon seeing her parents’ Harry Potter set in fourth grade
A.Puzzled. B.Frightened. C.Surprised. D.Discouraged.
26.What does the author mean by saying “I was kind of a changed woman” in paragraph 3
A.She agreed to shelve worn-out books.
B.She discovered her true reading preferences.
C.She began to take pleasure in fictional stories.
D.She started to ignore the books’ outward condition.
27.What is the best title of the text
A.My Journey with Old Books B.My Passion for Reading
C.My Meeting with the Harry Potter Series D.My Connection with Parents via Old Books
Researchers in the University of New South Wales have found a way to 3D print wagyu beef (和牛肉) in a lab — a step they believe will one day help make widely available and sustainably-produced cuts of cultured (实验室培养) meat that closely resemble original products.
Using stem cells that they took from wagyu cows, the researchers set out to create a structure with the characteristic marbling (大理石花纹) seen in wagyu beef that sets it apart from other cuts of beef. By isolating beef cells, the researchers organized how the muscles, blood vessels, and fat should be stacked (堆叠). The researchers then shaped these tissues into the form of a steak using a technique called 3D bio-printing, where cell structures can be layered to resemble real tissues in living things.
The researchers believe that proving that a wagyu steak can be accurately 3D-printed could be a big step toward a sustainable future where cultured meat can be created that closely resembles existing products. Its origins from real meat also differentiate it from plant-based options, like those created by Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods.
“By improving this technology, it will be possible to not only reproduce complex meat structures, such as the beautiful marbling of wagyu beef but to also make subtle adjustments to the fat and muscle components,” Nathan, one of the project’s researchers, said in a statement.
Nathan said that with these adjustments, customers might one day be able to order a cultured cut of meat with the amount of fat they desire, tailor-made to their tastes and health concerns.
While this might be the first cut of wagyu beef ever to be 3D printed, other attempts have been made to bio-print steaks. In February this year, Aleph Farms and the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology jointly bio-printed and cultivated a rib eye steak using real cow cells.
28.How did the researchers make 3D-printed wagyu beef
A.By layering different meat to produce wagyu beef.
B.By processing wagyu beef to join existing products.
C.By shaping different tissues with stem cells of wagyu cows.
D.By separating the muscles, blood vessels, and fat of wagyu cows.
29.What does Nathan probably think of the 3D-printed beef
A.It can be improved and adjusted.
B.It will be replaced by better beef.
C.It can replace the real beef finally.
D.It will be hard to be popular among customers.
30.What does the underlined word “tailor-made” in paragraph 5 mean
A.Handmade. B.Personalized. C.Applied. D.Attached.
31.Why are Aleph Farms and the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering mentioned
A.To introduce how to 3D-print beef.
B.To encourage people to make steaks.
C.To show more attempts to make bio-printed steaks.
D.To explain the importance of developing a rib eye steak.
Citizen science is the practice of including non-scientists in practical, meaningful scientific research projects. The best-known examples of citizen science include bird observations and weather tracking, but these are only the tip of the iceberg. Citizen science has been popular for over a century, but in recent years, citizen scientists are employed to monitor streams, observe insects and birds, monitor weather, and observe wildlife.
While some types of research can be accomplished by a single scientist in a lab, many other types really depend on the collection of a very large amount of data. Certain types of data collection are especially appropriate for citizen scientists, particularly when they require relatively simple tools that are available to non-professionals. Without citizen scientists’ participation, many projects of a certain form of research would be impractical or even impossible.
There were no citizen scientists during the Renaissance or the Age of Enlightenment(启蒙运动). Instead, there were amateur and “gentlemen” scientists, like Thomas Jefferson, who studied various aspects of the natural world. It wasn’t until the 1800s that the concept of a “professional” scientist emerged—and the opportunity for citizen science evolved. However, a dinosaur enthusiast may spend a great deal of time and effort finding, identifying, and collecting fossils. But if their work is not connected to a larger research study run by scientists in a professional science organization, it is not considered citizen science but amateur research.
By the late 1990s, the Internet was available to a very large group of people around the world. Scientists saw the potential for engaging an international community of citizen scientists with the skills to upload information to a database from anywhere. At the same time, with the right apps in the smartphones, citizen scientists can easily identify plants and animals, measure temperature and air quality, identify colors and much more—all without spending money on research tools. Citizen scientists also use a wide range of smartphone “built-ins” such as GPS receivers and cameras, which greatly increase the value of their findings.
32.What do we know about citizen science
A.It is based on previous research.
B.It has revolutionized the way we live.
C.It involves a wide range of research fields.
D.It is run by a non-professional science organization.
33.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us
A.The forms of citizen science. B.The application of citizen science.
C.The definition of citizen science. D.The significance of citizen science.
34.What can we infer about citizen science from paragraph 3
A.Its theme stresses the culture of Europe.
B.Professional scientists get involved with it.
C.Thomas Jefferson was among citizen scientists.
D.Citizen science came into being before the 1800s.
35.What helps the quick development of citizen science
A.The modern technology. B.The searchable database.
C.The sharp rise in employment. D.The participation of more volunteers.
Without enough time to go to gyms and sports centers, non-stop snacking and increasing stress. Sounds familiar 36 But there are a few things we can do to make it a little easier, such as home workouts, for which there are thousands of variations online for all levels, interest, pace, and length of free time.
There are numerous options ranging from 10 minutes to one and a half hours of training. 37 If you’re a beginner, it’s worthwhile joining a one-month challenge and starting at the base level. Day-by-day workouts are getting a bit longer and harder. Doing an exercise challenge will raise your heart rate, get your body used to being fast and build the foundation for further future gains.
Resistance bands are probably the best inexpensive training tool you can get. Whether you are a beginner or at an advanced fitness level, resistance band exercises will give your muscles a good challenge. One of the advantages of the bands is that you can make a massive muscle workout without putting pressure on the joints. You can find many resistance band kits (成套设备) with suggested exercises for every major muscle group in your body. 38
If you have kids, it is very important that they also do exercise every day. 39 Exercise for kids should be taken easily of course. Instead of working out, call it an exercise play.
40 Cardio (有氧的) workout was a popular workout at that time. It is known for its numerous advantages just like weight regulation, mood-boosting, fat-burning, reducing chronic pain, being affordable and accessible. It’s simple exercise that can be done with smaller children or with older family members who are not restricted in their mobility.
A.Well, this is a challenging time for all of us.
B.Which workouts are the most popular ones
C.Why not make the daily workout a fun family activity
D.And you can also find a lot of workout suggestions online.
E.Who wouldn’t remember the most popular workout of the 1990s
F.You can also buy gym equipment for home use if you have the budget.
G.Choose the most suitable one according to your fitness level and schedule.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My brother Matthew had always expected to have a little brother. When I was born, he was disappointed to have a sister. To him, I was an annoyance, small, weak, and coward (胆小的) and he often found comfort in teasing me. As a little girl, I often wondered if Matthew and I would have real friendship like other brother and sister, caring and helping each other.
It was not until he went to university that he unexpectedly invited me to visit him on his campus for the first time. In his room, he handed me a drink, telling me his struggle for making new friends and how tough he was to study Maths. From that day on, we talked more and our bond seemed to get changed.
One Thanksgiving, I was criticised by dad and didn’t want to attend the family dinner. Matthew stayed with me and we had dinner together — just the two of us. My big brother, once a man I felt distant from, became the person who accompanied me when I was in low spirits.
In the first summer vacation of my university, Matthew suggested taking me to make an off-road driving on 85,000 acres of desert in California. We learned some first aid methods and survival tips, knowing how to deal with minor injuries and send out a signal for help on a remote desert. After we got everything prepared, our adventure journey started and we enjoyed ourselves on the way. Unfortunately, on a windy afternoon our car overturned.
“Are you okay ” My brother asked from the driver’s seat in a weak voice. We were hanging upside down, trapped by our seat belts and covered in sand. I felt some blood flowing to my hand, my heart pounding violently, extremely scared.
Looking towards him, I found Matthew badly injured, his arm bleeding and stuck in the seat. There was a hint of fear lingering in his eyes, something I had rarely seen in my big brother. The man I’d seen as strong was now human, fragile (脆弱的).
It was my turn to give him help.

M: Actually, frequent showering may do more harm than good. It can wash away the good bacteria that naturally exist on your skin. It’s good to shower once or twice a day.
W: OK. I’ll cut it down.
M: The way you shower is also important. Water should be warm but not too hot.
W: I use hot water a lot, and I like the scent of soap and shampoo.
M: Avoid any of those good-smelling soaps and body washes. You don’t need to wash your hair every time you shower. Typically, shampooing two or three times a week will help keep your scalp and hair healthy.
W: What’s the duration
M: Three or four minutes of showering is all you need. If you prefer a slightly more relaxed approach, try to keep your shower under 10 minutes.
W: Thank you. Dr. Carl.

His mother helped him create an event on Facebook, which attracted lots of people. “It was such a fun day meeting so many awesome people and their pets. A car full of people pulled up saying that they had just heard about it on the radio,” said his mother on Facebook. And the highlight that topped off the day was Ben’s teacher’s coming by. Ben said he has no plans to stop his charity work for the shelter, which makes his mother smile, even though she said he’s always had a big heart. “It really just blew me away,” his mother said.

故填to。
58.考查冠词。句意:辽河文化的演变是一段迷人的旅程。journey为可数名词,此处为泛指,前需用不定冠词修饰,fascinating为辅音音素开头,用a修饰。故填a。
59.考查定语从句。句意:在古代,居住在辽河流域的人们发展了先进的农业技术,使他们能够在这片肥沃的土地上茁壮成长。空处引导定语从句,先行词是region,在从句中作地点状语,用where引导。故填where。

Dear fellow students,
Our school will hold an activity themed “My Role in Building a Harmonious Campus” next month. It’s our duty to contribute to a warm and friendly campus that we all love.
First, we should respect teachers and help classmates who are in trouble. Second, keep the campus clean and avoid quarrels. What’s more, listen carefully in class and take part in group activities actively. Let’s start with small things now. I believe that if everyone does their part, our campus will become more harmonious.
Let’s work together!

67.It was my turn to give him help. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my own racing heart. Look at me, Matthew. We’re siblings, and I will always be with you. Slowly but surely, we managed to free ourselves from the seat belts and crawled out of the car. I clumsily applied a clean cloth on his arm to stop bleeding and tried to bandage his wound carefully. After searching the trunk, I found a colourful rope and used it to make a large SOS sign in the sand, hoping to be found.
Hours later, the rescue team found us. They praised us for our self rescue awareness, saying they were on duty when they found our sign. I knew it was my care for my brother that gave me courage to stay cool. It’s ugly but I love it. Thank you, my dear sister, staring at the bandage on his arm, Matthew showed a comfort smile, weak but proud. With the help of the rescue team, we safely returned home. I finally understood that true sibling love came from company, care and help.
