While most school aged kids are returning to classes with stories of summer hiking and camping, a 9 year old boy in northern Michigan is sharing the story of how he broke a world record.
Braden Dubois, a student at Inland Lakes Elementary, was able to set a new world record this summer as the youngest stock car driver on the planet. According to The World Record Academy, Dubois has met the requirements to officially become the world's youngest stock car racer.
“When my father told me that I had a chance to set the record, I wanted to go for it,” Braden said.
Braden's parents, Krista and Jim Dubois, own the Onaway Speedway and made it possible for Braden to race by allowing him to compete in the 12 year old age class. Having long been racing fans, the couple purchased the speedway about three years ago and said they enjoyed running it with their family.
“I was a little nervous about him racing at first,” Krista said. “Once Jim worked with him and I saw how safe and responsible he was, I felt much better.”
Krista said the safety gear (装置) they had installed (安装) in Braden's car is very similar to the equipment used in Nascar races. Braden drives a 1996 Chevy Cavalier, with a four cylinder (汽缸) engine. The car was purchased for him to race in and is the car he drove to set the record, completing the whole season.
“I spun out a couple of times in it,” Braden said. “The first time I was frightened, but you get used to it.”
Braden is one of the top racers in his league at Onaway Speedway and has received three awards for top 5 finishes this season. “You can't just get in a car and race,” Braden said. “It's important to know that you have to learn first, and be safe.”

Antoine Craig, a blind athlete, has been blind since 2010. He gradually lost his sight due to a genetic disease. Working through difficulties, Craig says, he has found his value. “Once I lost my eyesight, I began the process of rediscovering myself,” he says.
Craig, now 40, heard from a friend about people running at the school's gym with their hands linked by shoestrings (鞋带). Craig decided to give it a try. “In the beginning, it was pure coping (应对),” he says. “It allowed me to do something I could be proud of. More importantly, here people became my friends, who were always ready to help me. These people became my family.”
In 2017, he won a silver medal in the 200 meter race at the 2017 US Paralympic Nationals. In 2019 he competed at the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru. In 2021, running for a chance to compete in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo—delayed for a year, he finished second in the 100.

When asked how the team performed, Craig answered cheerfully, “You know, we won!”
Craig finished a psychology degree from VCU in 2016 and completed his master's degree in mental health counseling (咨询) in December 2022. As the name suggests, alpine football, a variation of the world's most popular competitive sport, is played on mountain slopes (斜坡) in order to make it more difficult.
Most competitive sports usually take place on level playing fields, but in the case of alpine football, one of the main conditions is that the field must be steep (陡峭的). It sounds totally impossible, but a group of football fans in the Austrian Alps claim that it's the best way to play their favorite sport. They got the idea for alpine football during the 2014 World Cup, while watching a boring game and brainstorming for ways to make it more challenging.
“We were watching the games and found them very boring,” alpine football co inventor Franz Mair said. “Then, Peppi Knunz, the other inventor of the sport, said to me, ‘The way they play isn't hard enough and they should try running up and down our mountains. They'd soon be out of breath.’ And then we thought they might not even be able to play, but we would manage it!”
Flat ground is very hard to find in the Alps, so it's most often used for more important things than playing football. Therefore, fans of the sport in such mountainous areas decided to turn lemons into lemonade and use the mountain slope to invent a new game. Now, locals take pride in only playing alpine football.
“Anyone can play on flat ground,” says Alois Gantner, trainer of the Supa Burschis team. “In Montafon, we only play on the steepest slopes we can find.”
The rules of alpine football are the same as for the regular football, with the only difference being the need for strong legs and great energy to fight against gravity on the uneven field.
32.What inspired the group of football fans to invent alpine football
A.The mountainous area in the Alps.
B.Their great passion for football.
C.A boring game they watched.
D.A desire to compete in the World Cup.

A.Finding a suitable field.
B.Fighting against gravity.
C.Deciding on the game rules.
D.Keeping normal breath.
34.How might Alois feel when saying the words in Paragraph 5
A.Proud. B.Desperate.
C.Helpless. D.Considerate.
35.What can be inferred from the passage
A.Alpine football shares most of the rules of regular football.
B.All the football matches don't take place on level fields.
C.Both alpine football and regular football are popular in Montafon.
D.Flat ground in Alps is often used for important things like playing football.

High school sports are one of the biggest things that happens in our town of Verden, population six hundred. And sports are important in our family. Both of our sons were high school athletes. However, I was surprised when Lauren announced she was trying out for the girls' basketball team. But she has Down syndrome (唐氏综合症).
My wife and I never told Lauren that she was different. We treated her like our other children. We didn't want her to feel disabled or different.
“I'm gonna play basketball, Daddy.” Lauren ran to meet me when I returned from work. “That's nice, honey,” I replied and patted her on the shoulder. I figured she meant outside—on the driveway. My wife Laura later told me, “What Lauren's trying to tell you is that she's joining the girls' high school basketball team.” Just as my wife's words stopped, I heard Lauren behind me. “I'm gonna be a Lady Tiger,” she shouted, throwing her arms in the air. I discussed Lauren's announcement with my wife that evening. “Maybe she won't make the team,” I offered. “Everybody makes the team, Johnny,” she whispered, “It's Verden. There are only eleven girls, and not all of them want to play.”
However, I couldn't help worrying about Lauren. Everything that could happen flashed through my mind. Lauren's reactions were slow. What if she got injured during practice or trying to keep up with the other players What if the other girls on the team failed to accept her What if an insensitive audience made fun of her Or what if Lauren's feelings got hurt because she spent most of her time on the bench (替补席)
Just as my wife had said, Lauren did make the school basketball team. To relieve my anxiety, I decided to see her practice in person. The next afternoon, I parked in front of the school gymnasium. Entering the gym, I could see Lauren standing alone at the other end of the court, shooting free throws. Inside, Coach Forsythe stood on the other side of the gym. After every shot, Lauren joyfully shouted, “Woo hoo!” She didn't seem to care whether she made the basket or not.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Then I talked about Lauren with the coach. Finally, the day for the game came.

One was two-year-old Mary and the other was her five-year-old brother John. They were both locked inside an 18th-floor apartment on the Main Street in New York. Neighbors were woken at five o'clock in the morning by the children's cries. They quickly reported it to the police. The police arrived only to find the door of the apartment locked, so the police got in touch with the firemen. The firemen had to cut their way through the gate to reach the children. Mary and John were then taken care of by their neighbors. The police questioned the neighbors about the children's mother. She was described as an excellent mother and very friendly.

Learning a US national team was forming for blind soccer, he went for it. Last fall, Craig was named to the team, which will play in the Los Angeles Paralympics in 2028. On March 19 and 20, 2023, the team hosted its first two “international friendly” games against Canada in Chula Vista, California. Craig couldn't play as planned due to a concussion (脑震荡) in practice before the games. He spoke with his teammates before both games and, on his Facebook page, asked friends and supporters to lend support. When asked how the team performed, Craig answered cheerfully, “You know, we won!”
Craig finished a psychology degree from VCU in 2016 and completed his master's degree in mental health counseling (咨询) in December 2022. Now he has his own business, Legendary Counseling, focusing on athletes with disabilities. He also regularly posts videos to his Instagram, hoping to inspire others.

Hopefully, I can be chosen to be one of them.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

Then I talked about Lauren with the coach. Finally, the day for the game came.
Then I talked about Lauren with the coach. The coach smiled warmly and reassured me, “Lauren is a valuable member of the Lady Tigers. She brings a unique spirit and determination that the other girls admire.” He explained that while Lauren might not be the most skilled player, her positive attitude and enthusiasm were inspirational to her teammates. Coach Forsythe's words eased my worries, and I began to see Lauren's participation through a different lens—one that celebrated her contribution to the team in a way that transcended the game itself.
Finally, the day for the game came. The gymnasium was packed with excited fans. As the game progressed, I kept searching for Lauren on the court. When she was finally brought in, the crowd erupted into applause. Lauren played with all her heart. Despite not scoring, her mere presence on the team had a profound impact on everyone present. The game ended, and Lauren was lifted onto her teammates' shoulders, a symbol of unity and acceptance. That day, Lauren wasn't just a player. She was a champion, reminding us all that the true spirit of sports lies in courage, camaraderie, and the joy of participation.

Exercising Safely
Exercise is a key part of staying healthy, but figuring out how to exercise safely can be tough. __36__
__37__ It's especially important to consult a doctor if you have a history of heart, bone, muscle, joint, or other medical conditions. Ask your doctor for advice on how to safely start exercising and to recommend exercises that benefit your specific condition.
Drink lots of water before, during, and after exercising. Try to drink about 2 cups (470 ml) of water before you exercise, and 1 cup (240 ml) every 15 to 20 minutes during your workout. Your body will need extra water to help your muscles work and to replace the fluids lost as you sweat. __38__ However, if you're trying to lose weight, limit your consumption of sports drinks, as they contain lots of sugar and can add extra calories to your diet.
Choose clothes that suit your activity. In general, wear clothes that won't restrict your movement or blood flow. __39__ Wear short sleeves and light, breathable fabrics in hot temperatures, and wear layers if it's cold.
Stop exercising if you experience pain. __40__ If you feel any soreness or sharp pain, stop the activity. Do your best to rest the affected area until the pain starts to subside. If you believe you've injured yourself, you might be able to treat it at home. However, seek medical attention if you hear a pop, experience severe pain, have uncontrolled bleeding, can't move or bear weight on a joint.
A.Looser clothes are better for strength training, brisk walking, and sports such as basketball or soccer.
B.Sports drinks can also help you replace salts and minerals lost in sweat.
C.Here are some tips to help you stay safe while working out.
D.Also, make sure your clothes suit the weather.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
