There is some doubt as to① who should perform the duty②, if it is imposed③. Some people argue that such a duty should not be codified④ for general citizens, as⑤ rescues are often inherently⑥ dangerous; we have professionally trained rescuers in the form of the police, fire brigade⑦ and ambulance service. It is assumed that rescues should be left to the professionals. Untrained people should not feel pressured or
obligated⑧ to undertake rescues. There are also some who⑨ hold that⑩ there is no necessary connection between law and morality , and that moral duties should not necessarily become legal duties. Indeed, the duty to rescue is perhaps the prime example of a duty that should not be codified, according to this view.
