A tiny mouse at the San Diego Zoo has set a new world record for the oldest known living mouse. The mouse, named Pat, turned 9 years and 209 days old on February 8, 2023.
Pat is a Pacific pocket mouse, which is the smallest kind of mouse in North America. He weighs about as much as three pennies. Pacific pocket mice get their name from the special pouches(颊袋) they have on the outside of their cheeks. These pouches are lined with fur, and are used by the mice to carry food and the material they need to make their nests. The mice make their nests in tunnels underground, called burrows. During the colder winter months, Pacific pocket mice hibernate(冬眠) in their holes under the ground for much of the time.
Pacific pocket mice are endangered. They live in Southern California, usually within 3.2 kilometers of the sea. They used to be found all along the coast, from Los Angeles down to the US border with Mexico. The mice are an important part of the environment because they help spread the seeds of the plants that grow naturally in this sandy area. Their digging underground also helps the plants grow.
But starting in the early 1930s, humans began taking up more and more of the area where
the mice normally lived. Pacific pocket mice began disappearing. By the 1970s, scientists believed that the Pacific pocket mouse had become extinct.
Starting in 2012, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance(SDZWA) began working to help the mice by raising them in captivity(人工饲养). Animals raised in captivity face fewer dangers and often live longer. Pat, whose birthday is July 14, 2013, was born in the first year of that program. Last year at the zoo, 31 groups of baby mice were born, and there were 117 pups(幼小动物) in all. SDZWA says that many of these mice will be released(放走) into the wild this year.
But Pat won't be joining them. Now he's rather old for a mouse. In the wild, Pacific pocket mice usually only live for 3 to 5 years. Even when being cared for by humans, they don't usually live much longer than 7.5 years.
71. Which of the following statement is right
A. Pacific pocket mice get their name because of their appearance.
B. Pacific pocket mice usually build their nests away from the sea.
C. Pacific pocket mice are not endangered any longer thanks to the help of humans.
72. Why are Pacific pocket mice important to the environment
A. Because they help plants produce more seeds.
B. Because they help plants get more seeds.
C. Because they help bring plants' seeds to other places.

A. As is known to all, the South China tiger is in danger of becoming ______.

74. Why won't Pat be sent to nature
A. Because the number of mice sent to nature is already decided.
B. Because there are enough Pacific pocket mice in nature.
C. Because he is too old to face the possible dangers in nature.

Xiangsheng, or crosstalk, is one of the most popular performing art forms in China, attracting people of all ages. 1 But most people believe that it was not until the middle and late Qing Dynasty that xiangsheng established itself as a special and independent art form.
As one of the forms of xiangsheng, dankou is performed by an actor who mainly tells jokes or simply humorous stories. It is known as qunkou when performed by three or more people. 2 The lead actor is called dougen, while the one playing the supporting role is called penggen. 3
There are four key skills in a modern xiangsheng: shuo, xue, dou and chang. Shuo covers telling jokes, guessing riddles and saying tongue twisters. Xue is about the imitation of all kinds of animals. 4 Chang is a way for xiangsheng performers to show their vocal skills to attract the attention of the audience.
There are three major schools(流派) of xiangsheng, including Hou (Baolin) School, Ma (Sanli) School and Chang (Baokun) School. 5 In 2008, it was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in China.
Dou means the skills of making audiences laugh.
The main purpose, of course, is to make the audience laugh.
But most of the time, xiangsheng is performed by two actors, known as duikou.
The two actors usually discuss or argue over a subject or a social topic in a humorous way.
It first appeared in China during the Ming Dynasty as another form of the "imitation show".
Thanks to the efforts of generations of performers, xiangsheng remains even today one of the most popular performing art forms in the country.
B. 完成图表 根据短文内容,完成图表中所缺信息。(共5小题;每小题1分,计5分)
Hiking or camping can be a fun and exciting way to relax. But when traveling in an area that you're not very familiar with, you may get lost. If there is no compass to guide you, don't worry! Here are two easy ways to help you.
First, find a straight and long(about 2 feet) stick. Plant it upright in the clean ground and use rocks to keep the stick standing up straight. Then put a rock at the end of the stick's shadow. And wait about 20 minutes. As the sun moves, the shadow will move east. Take another rock and mark the new location at the end of the stick's shadow. Draw a straight line between the two rocks. Since the sun is moving west across the sky, the shadow's new location will be further east. So mark a "W" on the first location and an "E" on the new one. Put your left foot on "W" and your right one on the "E". When you're in this position, your front will be facing north. But
it's important to note that this method only works when the sun comes out.
If you are in the Northern Hemisphere(北半球),the North Star can show you where true north is. This is one of the quickest ways to look for directions at night.
First, you need to find the Big Dipper. The Big Dipper looks like a large spoon and there are seven stars. Its outer edge, which looks like the end of the spoon, consists of two stars, also known as "pointers", because they point toward the North Star. Then draw an imaginary line outward from the two stars. This line should extend through the top of the spoon until you reach a star of similar brightness(about 6 times the distance of these two stars). At the end of the line sits the North Star. When you're facing the North Star, you're facing true north.
If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, the North Star can't help you. You need to find the directions in another way.
Shadow - stick method
Reason:
The shadow moves 1 of the sun.
Steps:
◆Plant a straight, long stick upright into the ground.
◆Put down a rock to mark the end of the stick's shadow. 20 minutes later, put another rock in the new location at the end of the stick's shadow.
◆Mark a "W" which means 2 and an "E" which means 2 .
◆Put your left foot on "W" and your right foot on "E". Then you will face north.
Attention:
This method works only on 3 days.
Finding the North Star
Reason:
If you face the North Star, you are facing north.
Steps:
◆Find the Big Dipper, which is 4 seven stars and looks like a spoon.
◆Find the two "pointers" and draw an imaginary line.
◆Extend the line(about 6 times the distance of the two "pointers"). The North Star is at the end of the line.
Attention:
This method works only when you are in 5 .
