To involve viewers completely, an entirely new art form is developing. It surrounds visitors with images and sounds. Sometimes unnoticeable smells are added to draw people in through yet another sense. These immersive (沉浸式的) exhibits are projected and can even change with interaction.
Monet's Garden: The Immersive Experience
A massive, immersive exhibition celebrating French artist Claude Monet will be shown in downtown New York in November, promising visitors a multisensory experience. Visitors will be greeted by pleasant smells of water lilies floating in the air and learn much about Monet, who developed from a gifted but slightly traditional landscape painter into a master of the Impressionism.
TheBlu
TheBlu, which started as a home application, is presented at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles. Museum lovers virtually observe a big blue whale and a whale fall where a dead whale's bones have become an undersea ecosystem. “We aim for the right level of awe (敬畏). No cheap scares. No shark jumps out at you,” says Rowell, one of the app developers. “Exploration is the heart of what ‘TheBlu’ is.”
Particle (微粒) Mirror
The Museum of Science, Boston has used the latest tech to excite visitors and inspire life long learning. Opened this year, “Particle Mirror” inspires an interest in physics. Visitors are led through nine scenes interacting with a changing variety of spots, all following the laws of physics. For example, in the “snow” scene, visitors can collect the falling particles or sweep them off the floor. Particles set off different musical sounds when pushed.
Vitality in Running
This immersive art exhibition is an interactive multi media one focusing on the culture of the Yongding River, known as the “Mother River of Beijing”. This exhibition is made up of various sections including “Flowing”, “Dawn”, “Legend”, “Coexistence”, “Fire and Dreams”, and “Four Seasons”. To create “Washed Up: Transforming a Trashed Landscape”, Alejandro Durán gathers plastic trash that is washed up on the beaches of Sian Ka'an, Mexico's largest federally protected reserve. The site is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Yet every day, plastic pollution from around the world is washed up onto its shores (岸). These materials inspired Durán to create a series of environmental art pieces, which he records with photos and videos.
I had the opportunity to speak with Durán. Durán was born in Mexico City and is now based in Brooklyn. He said that he's been collecting materials and creating photographs for the past five years, and the work is ongoing. “The project will tell me when to stop.”
Each piece can convey a vastly different mood, from the calm greens of soda bottles to the playful rainbows of toothbrushes. “I'm making art,” said Durán. “It comes from the context and my moods. You can't say, ‘only make something dark.’” The work reflects and plays with natural forms, exploring how humans influence the environment. The colorful and playful images can be much attention grabbing. “Beauty is a hook (钩子) to attract people's attention,” said Durán.
In addition to promoting awareness about the plastic pollution problem, Durán is also involved in educational programs and helps to organize beach clean ups. He has also made a study of the types of products that are washed ashore in Sian Ka'an, and has identified objects from 50 different countries. Although there's no way to know where or how these objects were dropped into the sea, their labels show the global nature of the problem.
24.What does Alejandro Durán do with the trash
A.He moves it away.
B.He collects and burns it.
C.He turns it into a form of art.
D.He puts it together for people to see.
25.What does Alejandro Durán mean by “The project will tell me when to stop” in Paragraph 3

B.An artist creating environmental art.

Beijing Opera is one of the Chinese traditional drama art forms and the largest Chinese opera form. Having a history of about 200 years, it is developed from many other drama forms, mostly from the local drama “Huiban”. It was especially popular in south China during the 18th century.
Theatrical art forms in many other counties do not have singing, dancing and spoken parts together in one single drama. An opera singer, for example, neither dances nor speaks on stage; there are no singing or dancing parts in a modern play; in a dance drama, the dancer doesn't speak or sing. Traditional Chinese drama, including Beijing Opera, is a kind of entertainment. It includes spoken parts, singing and dancing.
Beijing Opera has spread to many other places. Mei Lanfang, one of the most famous performers of all, was the first to introduce Beijing Opera to foreigners and made lightly successful tours to foreign countries.
“You will doubt and sometimes be a little bored, but you will be interested gradually. You will be strongly attracted to Beijing Opera, even if you know nothing about the drama background.” This is how one traveler described his first experience in watching Beijing Opera.
Beijing Opera is China's national opera and it is full of Chinese cultural traditions. Welcome to China and enjoy Beijing Opera!

In 2015, Brian Peterson had just moved to Santa Ana. Outside the couple's fourth floor apartment, a homeless man was often yelling on the street corner. Peterson would pass the guy on his way to his job, but they never spoke.
One day, Peterson was reading a book about the power of love. Inspired by the book's compassionate message, Peterson made an unexpected decision: He was going to go outside and introduce himself. In that first conversation, Peterson learned that the man's name was Matt Faris. He fell on hard times and ended up living on the street. “But his story inspired me.” Peterson recalled later. Peterson found himself asking if he could paint Faris's portrait.
Peterson's connection with Faris led him to form Faces of Santa Ana, a nonprofit organization focused on painting portraits of the homeless. Working from a black and white photo, Peterson chooses colors inspired by life story, creating a portrait. He showed one man winning his battle with alcoholism, for example, by changing the colors from a sad blue to a brilliant red. Peterson sells the picture—signed by both subject and artist—for a few thousand dollars, putting half for his model. He then helps people use the money to get back on their feet.
“I've made so many mistakes thinking. I knew what people wanted,” Peterson says, “Then I realized: Why don't we just ask them?” Another subject, Kimberly Sondoval, had never been able to financially support her daughter. She asked, “Can I use the money to pay my daughter's rent?” When the check was delivered, “they both wept in my arms,” Peterson recalls.
In the eight years since Faces of Santa Ana was established, Peterson has painted 41 of these portraits himself. He's discovered that the buyers tend to connect to the story of the person in the painting, finding similarities and often friendship with someone they might have otherwise overlooked. “People often tell me, ‘I was the one that would cross the street. But I see homeless people differently now,’” Peterson says, “I didn't know that would happen.”
32.Which of the following best describes Peterson
A.Imaginative. B.Optimistic.
C.Persuasive. D.Caring.
33.Why did Peterson think he had made so many mistakes
A.He sold the pictures for money.
B.He helped the homeless back home.
C.He helped Kimberly finance her daughter.
D.He didn't realize people's specific needs.
34.What does the author indicate in the last paragraph with others
A.The buyers liked making friends with others.
B.Peterson's behavior made a difference to the buyers.
C.The homeless would contact the buyers with similarities.
D.Everyone would be grateful to Peterson for his great work.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A.A Nonprofit Organization
B.The Man Realizing His Art Dream
C.Kind Buyers Helping the Homeless
D.The Man Painting Portraits for the Homeless

Should you listen to music when you work Some will say they love it, claiming that it improves their performance; others will say they cannot work effectively with music playing in the background. __36__ It just depends on what sort of work you're doing.
In a recent study, we brought participants into our lab with a variety of tasks. They included an easy task—searching through word lists and crossing out words containing the letter “a” and a more difficult task—memorizing word pairs and recalling the partner to each word. Some participants completed all of the tasks in silence, whereas others completed the tasks with instrumental music that was either loud or soft, and either simple or complex, the latter meaning music with more instrumental tracks. __37__
We found that participants who listened to simple music or no music performed about the same on the easy task. __38__ Contrarily, participants performed worse on the more difficult task when they listened to any music, regardless of complexity or volume, compared to those who didn't listen to any music.
__39__ Not surprisingly, we typically need to use fewer of our mental resources when we perform easy tasks, whereas demanding tasks require more brainpower. However, because we might be less engaged during easier tasks, there's a greater risk of drifting off to sleep. Music might give us the extra boost we need to get refreshed. __40__ Listening to music can become overkill (过犹不及). So we have to strike a balance between the type of music and the type of task.
A.What should we make of these findings
B.Several key findings emerged from our study.
C.However, difficult tasks already demand a lot of our mental resources.
D.Our research has found that the effects of work may depend on our personalities.
E.We want to develop a more comprehensive framework that could be applied broader.
F.However, participants who listened to complex music performed best on the easy task.
G.Interestingly enough, our research has found that both of these perspectives can be true.

Lily has finally become a good dancer now, all thanks to Shanda's presence. Of all the people in Lily's life, Shanda in particular stands out. As Lily thinks of Shanda, a smile spreads across her face. She feels loved and grateful more than ever that she has such a teacher and friend.
Eleven years of dance and going on twelve that year, she doubted it would end up like any other year. She might be stuck in any empty spot and didn't know what to do with her next dance move. Little did she know that year would change her completely.
That year, Lily felt lucky that Shanda would choreograph (编舞) for her dance. Lily expected to work with Shanda, a young talented dancer, to have an okay dance, but she never expected she would have such an impressive impact on her way to dance.
The moment Lily walked into the marble-floored, wall to wall mirrored room, she already felt like Shanda had faith in her. Shanda smiled at her with appreciative eyes. In the following days, Shanda always encouraged her, “Work to the best of your ability and keep going.” When she wanted to give up, Shanda told her that the real importance of dance was to love it.
Through their hard work and devotion, not only did Lily's ability to dance grow, but also their friendship deepened. Shanda became more than a teacher to Lily. She was also a close friend that Lily could turn to for anything. Shanda gave her encouragement when Lily needed it the most, and Shanda was always there to cheer Lily up when she felt down.
As the year quickly came to an end, it was high time for Lily to show her dance to the audience. As she walked to the backstage filled with other dancers warming up and expecting their performance, she prayed for a good performance that would convey her improvement. The rhythmic music before her rang in her ears. She waited anxiously for her turn. Finally, after what seemed like days, the hostess announced “Lily”.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
Lily had butterflies in her stomach as she stepped onto the big stage. Lily felt very excited when the hostess asked her to make a speech.

But in one special program in New York, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly and peaceful environment. Each summer, 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and to build little wooden houses. The adults teach them these skills. There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours some of the teenagers learn photography or drawing. Others just sit around and talk with the adults. Each teenager can choose his own way to spend his free time.
The exhibition feeds its visitors' souls by presenting the beauty of art through interaction with visitors by means of the latest technologies.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

39.答案:A
故选A。
40.答案:C
解析:根据下文“Listening to music can become overkill (过犹不及). So we have to strike a balance between the type of music and the type of task.(听音乐可能会变得过犹不及。所以我们必须在音乐类型和任务类型之间取得平衡。)”可知,执行复杂任务不适合听音乐,因为执行复杂任务本身就需要消耗更多精力。C项(然而,困难的任务已经需要我们大量的脑力资源。)符合语境。故选C。

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Lily had butterflies in her stomach as she stepped onto the big stage. Excitement and nervousness ran through her body, disturbing yet inspiring her. Seeing Shanda smiling brightly in the audience, she calmed down a bit. Determination to succeed convinced her that she couldn't give up. With the dance music on, she danced to it in harmony, showing that she hadn't spent a year in vain. To her surprise, she danced with heart and soul, standing out from all the participants. She finally won the championship, and the whole audience applauded warmly.
Lily felt very excited when the hostess asked her to make a speech. With the gold medal in hand, she said loudly, “I owe my success to Shanda. She taught me better dance movements and techniques. More importantly, she taught me the true love of dance. It struck me what Shanda said about dance—dance for dance itself, to get away from all your problems, and to get away from reality. I come to know what dance really means now.” With happy tears running down her cheeks, she rushed down to Shanda, giving her a big hug.

M:Do you mean to tell me not to care for modern art Not any of it

M:That's a very narrow-minded viewpoint. If you don't understand it, how can you say that you don't like it
W:Perhaps I am a little conservative. I really can't keep pace with so many changes nowadays. So, I just can't imagine that the modern artist is really serious.

M:I guess there's no point in discussing the matter any further. You have your opinion and I have mine.
W:I agree there are two sides to everything, but this time I see only one of them.
M:Well, I'm attempting to explain that the modern artist is trying to get across his personal feelings about the world around him.
W:Then he should keep his feelings to himself.

Young people and older people do not always agree. They sometimes have totally different ideas about living, working and playing. But in one special program in New York, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly and peaceful environment.
Each summer, 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
篇章导读:本文是一篇说明文。文章通过实验来讨论工作的时候该不该听音乐。
36.答案:G
解析:根据上文“Some will say they love it ... with music playing in the background.(有些人会说他们喜欢它,声称它能提高他们的表现;其他人会说他们不能在有背景音乐的情况下有效地工作。)”和下文“It just depends on what sort of work you're doing.(这要看你在做什么工作了。)”
38.答案:F
解析:根据上文“We found that participants who listened to simple music or no music performed about the same on the easy task.”
39.答案:A

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
