Life finds me on the Isle of Islay, Queen of the Hebrides. I am the warden (管理员) of The Oa Reserve, a 2,100 hectare nature reserve and working farm owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
It was always a dream of mine to live in Scotland. The friendly nature of the island communities, the landscape, beautiful coastlines and above all—the wildlife. The amazing wildlife. So, here I am: living and working on the west coast of Scotland in a dream job. But, things weren't always this way.
My school life never really amounted to much. I didn't go on to higher education and my early working life was sloppy (马虎的) at best. Much of this was due to my disinterest in the work I was doing. I worked in factories, shops, warehouses and even a castle. I was always unsettled and uninspired. I never knew how to channel my interest and passion for nature into a paying job. Wildlife and nature had been part of my life since my youth. I remember my childhood with great fondness: I would read bird books, paint fact files for each species and get lost in the natural world.
In 2014, the opportunity I so badly needed finally appeared a paid training with Durham Wildlife Trust. I was given all the basic skills and training for habitat control, wildlife surveys and ground management works. In October 2015, I became the reserve warden for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT), where I stayed for just under half a decade. As happy as I was, new opportunities dared me to dream even bigger. The time had come to take my next step, to continue to grow within my career.
So, this is where I am now: living in the middle of a nature reserve, with golden eagles, red deer and hen harriers as neighbors. I feel as if I'm the luckiest man alive.
24.What does the author like best about Scotland
A.Its wild species.
B.Its beautiful shorelines.
C.Its unique scenery.
D.Its friendly communities.
25.Why did the author feel unsettled in his early working life
A.He was not well paid.
B.He changed jobs too often.
C.He felt not as good as others.
D.He showed little interest in the jobs.
26.What can be inferred about the author's childhood
A.He was fascinated by nature.
B.He knew a lot about biology.
C.He was forced to leave school early.
D.He dreamed of living in Scotland.
27.What does the author think of his work at The Oa Reserve
A.Tiring. B.Satisfying.
C.Uninspiring. D.Challenging.

Utah Lake is, in a word, disgusting. The State of Utah has worked with many partners and spent millions of dollars in an attempt to restore Utah Lake. It has indeed produced some active effects. However, due to the wastewater getting into it, this body of water is rich in nutrient and home to water bloom. Overfishing and the introduction of invasive species have only made the problem worse. In the summer of 2016, 500 people in Utah complained about their headaches, skin rashes and discomfort after swimming in the lake.
The Utah Lake Restoration Project is headed by Parker. He imagines a beautiful lake dotted with man made islands where a community could be built. Parker frequently goes to Capitol Hill to push for the proposal of the comprehensive lake restoration. Parker follows his rules “big ideas are worth approaching”, as the project calls for lake digging, the creation of islands, the removal of invasive species to restore the habitats of native plants, fish and so on.
Speaking of the Utah Lake Restoration Project, Ben Holcomb said, “It is not quite in line with reality.” He added, “Despite impressive computer models and the current project report, the Utah Lake Restoration Project lacks the actual field research to show that this project will have a positive effect on the lake's ecosystem.”
When asked how the public would help beautify Utah Lake, the lake's official workers suggested picking up garbage. However, it has a greatly limited effect on the overall health of the lake. Parker's plan may seem like the state's best chance to restore Utah Lake, but in reality the Utah Lake Restoration Project lacks the facts necessary for this sort of proposal. The State of Utah should propose some suggestions for the revision of the plan and offer the Utah Lake Restoration Project the access necessary to conduct research which could be compared with their theoretical findings. Only then can the State of Utah make an educated decision on behalf of people and resources.
28.What can we learn from Paragraph 1
A.The State of Utah has tried to restore Utah Lake.
B.It is not difficult to save Utah Lake for the State.
C.People living around Utah Lake are healthy and happy.
D.People don't swim in Utah Lake because of its pollution.
29.What's the purpose of the Utah Lake Restoration Project
A.To build a community near Utah Lake.
B.To make the water of Utah Lake rich in nutrient.
C.To make Utah Lake popular with foreign tourists.
D.To build a safe home for native creatures in Utah Lake.
30.What's Ben Holcomb's attitude towards the Utah Lake Restoration Project
A.Doubtful. B.Optimistic.
C.Unconcerned. D.Approving.
31.What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph
A.Picking up garbage is the key to saving the whole lake.
B.There's no proper way to save the health of Utah Lake.
C.Parker's plan needs some field research and adjustment.
D.Local people should take responsibility for saving Utah Lake.
D
A new course on world heritage and its conservation offers a good opportunity for the young people to learn about the legacy (遗产) of humanity and gain a sense of responsibility to help protect the planet we live on.
According to a world heritage education programme jointly launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and China's Ministry of Education, the course will first be offered at several schools in Beijing before being included as a mandatory course (必修课) for high school students nationwide.
The new course covers photos, slide shows and documentaries on the magnificence of the world heritage sites. The class aims to tell children what world heritage is and why and how it should be protected. A total of 177 nations, including China, have signed the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Listed are 754 sites all over the world, of which 29 are in China—the third most after Spain and Italy. Currently, protection of the country's cultural and natural resources leaves much to be desired. Education is undoubtedly the best way to cultivate people's sense for protecting cultural and natural resources.
The introduction of such a programme in Chinese classrooms will certainly help our young people realize the significance of common heritage, learning about world heritage sites, the history and traditions of different cultures, ecology, and the importance of protecting biological and cultural diversity.
More importantly, it will help cultivate a sense of responsibility in the minds of young participants. This is critical in protecting these cultural and natural legacies, as well as our living environment and the limited resources for sustainable development.
32.What can you expect to learn at the class
A.What world heritage is.
B.Why we should protect heritage.
C.How world heritage should be protected.
D.All of the above.
33.Which of the statements can be known from the passage
A.The world heritage education programme was jointly launched by the United States and China's Ministry of Education.
B.The course will first be offered at all the schools in Beijing.
C.Protection of the country's cultural and natural resources has been perfect thanks to people's efforts.
D.China ranks high among the countries with 29 sites listed on the list.
34.The underlined word “cultivate” in the third paragraph probably means “________”.
A.distribute B.exploit
C.develop D.improvise
35.What's the purpose of the passage
A.To inform us of the reason for protecting the heritage.
B.To tell us the way to protect the heritage.
C.To tell us a new course.
D.To tell us heritage preservation starts with education.

It was a morning in late August. Down the shore-line (湖岸线) of a lake, my father was fishing by a bank of trees. He liked to fish, away from distractions and noise and other people. He was also a wildlife officer, traveling all over the province to protect nature from humans.
But I was still new to fishing. “Dad, where should I stay?” He simply pressed his index finger to his lips, pointed to a shady spot by a large rock and shook his head gently. I knew he wanted me to be quiet.
The place where we were fishing was near a protected wetland. Songbirds, ducks and Canada geese flew by, touching down briefly on the water's surface before they flapped their wings and flew back into the sky. White clouds passed in front of the sun, blocking its warming rays from time to time.
Out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of a few big loons (潜鸟) gathered together near the shoreline. What were they doing there Loons usually travel alone, but here were five. Maybe it was a family One loon, wailing (哀号), swam away from the group, toward me.
“Dad Come here!”
My dad turned a bit toward me but didn't move, until I urged him again.
“Look at that loon. It's swimming toward us,” I said, pointing toward that strange loon.
Just then, the loon let out a big laughing sound. It stopped in the water near shore, not ten feet away from us. It was so close that we could see its beady red eyes. Strangely, the bird's wings were held tight against its black and white body, its neck wrapped (缠绕) around by a thin line. Fishing line maybe Was there a hook (钩子) on the line, too
“It needs help. It's trying to get our attention!” With these words, my dad was ready to get into the water. “But ... Look at its long beak! It could easily hurt us with it.” I didn't follow him.

The bird won't hurt you!” encouraged Dad.

Today we visit one of America's great national parks. It is a place of strange and silent beauty. As beautiful as this place is, its name provides evidence of very real danger. Death Valley is a land of beautiful yet dangerous extremes. There are mountains that reach more than three thousand meters into the sky. The air temperature during the summer has been as high as fifty-seven degrees Celsius. The sun can heat the ground so that the temperature of the rocks and soil can be as high as seventy-four degrees Celsius. The extreme heat of Death Valley has killed people in the past. It will continue to kill those who do not honor this extreme climate. Death Valley does not forgive those who are not careful. Death Valley is a good example of the violence of nature. It contains evidence of several ancient volcanoes that caused huge explosions. Evidence of one of these explosions is called Ubehebe Crater. The explosion left a huge hole in the ground almost a kilometer and a half wide. Death Valley is a huge place.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I'm a student from Chongqing, China. I'm writing this letter to you to report you the emergent situation of the Chinese Yangtze finless porpoise. Because of the human beings' destructive influence, the number of this precious species has promptly dropped to less than 100.
As far as I know, your foundation can help those species that are at the edge of extinction. I'm writing this letter to you to ask for your generous donation to our project to protect this endangered species. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;

“Go to get the scissors from the tool box,” my dad was shouting. “Take it easy! The bird won't hurt you!” encouraged Dad.

“Go to get the scissors from the tool box,” my dad was shouting. I ran, as quickly as possible, and came back with the tiny pair of scissors we used for cutting off the end of fishing line. I saw the loon already in Dad's hands. “What should I do next?” I asked, daring not to get close. “I'll hold it firmly, and you just need to cut off the line.” The loon's long beak was so close to me that I felt it might hurt me with its beak at any moment. I held the scissors out at arm's length, my hands shaking.
“Take it easy! The bird won't hurt you!” encouraged Dad. Somehow his calm voice gave me strength. I took a deep breath, trying to calm down a bit. As I approached, the loon was silent and still. Carefully and slowly, I cut off the fishing line from around the loon's neck. “Now, take out that hook. Hurry!” As I tried to pull the hook out, the loon struggled in Dad's hands, as if it were trying to pull itself free. “No! Not that way! You're hurting it.” So I had to try again. As I finally got the sharp hook out of its body, I let out a sigh of relief. I patted the loon's head, a gesture of gratitude that it hadn't used its beak as a weapon. As I watched that loon flapping its wings and flying back into the sky, I couldn't help beaming a smile.

It extends more than 225 kilometers across the southern part of the state of California, and across the border with the state of Nevada. Death Valley is part of the Great Mojave Desert.
18.What's the passage mainly about
A.The beauty of Death Valley. B.Introduction of Death Valley.

Part of the reason for that is because these pesticides appear __61__ (stick) around in the environment and stay dangerous for longer periods of time.
Though they're deadly to insects, neonicotinoids are not considered dangerous to humans. An ongoing challenge __62__ farmers is finding ways to keep other insects away while still __63__ (protect) bees. 第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
