2025-2026学年九年级英语上册期末复习考点培优仁爱科普版专题12 阅读理解
学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________
English is not an easy subject. I often hear my classmates say that they have met many difficulties since they started learning English. But I dealt with mine wisely and made great progress. What an amazing journey it has been!
As a beginner, the vocabulary was my first difficulty. Luckily, I found my own way to deal with it. Instead of just writing words repeatedly like most students, I often put words into sentences so that I can get a much deeper understanding. Moreover, I use the words in daily conversations, and then most of them became natural to me.
Listening and pronunciation used to trouble me a lot too. My teacher suggested that I should listen to English podcasts (播客) every day. This helped to increase my listening ability over time.
About grammar, it was a long way to study it well. I learned to analyse (分析) sentence structures (结构) and kept doing grammar exercises. Now I can easily find out whether a sentence is right or not.
Everyone is born with the ability to learn. As long as you keep trying and find a system that fits you, English learning will become easier!

After playing a sport like football, players might go to the hospital for an X-ray if they hurt their legs or arms. Dentists also use X-rays to check teeth. At the airport, workers use X-ray machines to look inside bags. X-rays help people in many different ways. 9
X-rays were first discovered by a German scientist, Wilhelm Conrad R ntgen. He found them quite by accident in 1895. One day, he discovered that an unknown kind of radiation (放射线) could hardly pass through hard objects like bones (骨头). 10 It clearly showed her ring and her bones. That was the first X-ray photo in the world.
Why is there an “X” in the word X-ray 11 He just knew that X-rays were new and useful for science. In fact, X-rays soon became an important tool in medicine. With the help of X-rays, doctors could see inside the human body for the first time.
R ntgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize (诺贝尔奖) in physics in 1901 for his discovery. 12 And he never took out any patents (专利权) on X-rays, to make sure that the world could freely make use of his discovery.
13 X-ray machines are better and safer than before. They help doctors find problems more easily. Thanks to R ntgen, people all over the world can use X-rays to stay healthy and safe.
A.Do you know who found it
B.Then, he touched his wife’s head.
C.Later, he took a photo of his wife’s hand.
D.It’s because R ntgen couldn’t explain exactly how it worked.
E.But R ntgen gave away his Nobel Prize money to his university.
F.Today, X-ray technology is widely used in medicine and other fields.
Schools in China are studying how they can put VR (virtual reality虚拟现实) lessons into their classroom experience. One such lesson uses VR to teach children fire safety. Instead of pens and paper, students wear VR headsets in the classroom. They are put into a virtual environment where a fire has broken out. They must find their way out and escape carefully.
At the VR medical school under Sichuan University, a virtual system allows medical students to examine human body in different ways. They can even separate organs for closer examination. Students can practice their operation skills without a real body.
Simon Leung, vice-chairman of a VR company, said the company has developed VR classrooms and computers that send students to a 360-degree digital world. Moreover, the VR headsets can tell whether children are focused on the task at hand, Leung said.
Chinese parents, however, have a different opinion on VR lessons. They are suspicious of VR because they are unsure if the technology will have any bad effects. They are worried about their children’s eyesight, too.
Besides, VR equipment comes at a price. A top VR headset and computer could cost up to 10,000 yuan (1,475 U.S. dollars). “We need to do more to lower the cost and improve the user’s experience,” said Huang Ronghuai, professor at the Smart Learning Institute under Beijing Normal University. “But we are sure that we will change the model of education in the future.”

The Smart Borrowing System (系统) (SBS) in our school library has been running for two months. It was introduced to solve the long waiting lines during lunch breaks and after school, and to help students find books more easily. Here’s how it works and what benefits it brings.
First, registering for SBS is simple. You just need to scan your student ID at the service desk and set a 4-digit password. Once registered, you can use either the SBS machines in the library or the school’s WeChat mini-program to borrow books. The mini-program is even more convenient: search for the book by title or writer, reserve it if it’s out, and borrow it directly when you pick it up.
Second, SBS helps manage books better. Each book has a tiny RFID chip inside. The system tracks where every book is, so librarians no longer need to check shelves one by one. If you forget to return a book, the system sends a reminder to your school email three days before the due date. Last month, the number of late returns dropped by 65%compared to last year.
Some students worried SBS would be hard to use, but feedback shows it’s popular. “I used to spend 20 minutes looking for history books. Now I reserve them on my phone and get them in 2 minutes.” said Li Hua, a Grade 9 student. The librarians also like it. “We can focus on helping students instead of checking out books repeatedly.” noted Ms. Wang.
However, SBS has rules too. You can borrow up to 4 books at a time, and keep them for 30 days. If you lose a book, you need to pay for it before borrowing more. Also, food and drinks are still not allowed near the SBS machines—they might damage the equipment.
18.Why was the Smart Borrowing System introduced
A.To help the old library staff. B.To solve waiting line problems.
C.To sell more books to students. D.To teach students computer skills.
19.What does the underlined word “reserve” mean in Paragraph 2
A.To repair something broken. B.To return something borrowed.
C.To buy something new. D.To keep something for later use.
20.How does the writer support the idea that SBS manages books better
A.By telling a story. B.By asking a question.
C.By giving a number. D.By comparing two libraries.
21.What can we infer (推断) about Li Hua
A.He works hard in the school library. B.He often forgets to return books to school.
C.He finds SBS convenient for studying. D.He helped improve the WeChat mini-program.
22.What is the passage mainly about
A.A new system making library use easier.

Copenhagen is a beautiful city. It has many tourists, especially during the summer. While tourism is great for the economy (经济), it’s at the cost of the environment.
This summer, Copenhagen started a project called CopenPay from July 15 to August 11. If tourists picked up litter, rode a bike around the city, or did other good things for the environment when they were having a tour, they could get rewards (奖励) in return. This was to get tourists to be friendly to the environment. The project was based on (以……为基础) trust. The participants (参加者) were only asked for a photo of doing good things for the environment.
There were 24 places offering rewards to the participants in the project, including museums, restaurants, and so on. While there were several places offering free ice cream or coffee for taking a bus, there were other experiences that were connected to local culture. Visitors to the National Gallery who brought plastic (塑料) waste could join in a workshop to turn the rubbish into a piece of local art.

Is there intelligent life on other planets For years, scientists said “no” or “we don’t know”. But today this is changing. Seth Shostak and Alexandra Barnett are astronomers (天文学家). They believe intelligent life lives somewhere in the universe. They also think we will soon contact it.
Why do Shostak and Barnett think intelligent life lives on other planets The first reason is time. Scientists believe the universe is about 12 billion years old. “This is long enough for other planets to have intelligent life,” say Shostak and Barnett. The second reason is size—the universe is huge. “Tools like the Hubble Telescopes (哈勃望远镜) have shown that there are at least 100 billion galaxies,” says Shostak. “And our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 1000 billion stars. Some planets going around these stars might be similar to Earth.”
In the past, it was hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe. But now, powerful telescopes allow scientists to find smaller planets—the size of Mars or Earth—in other solar systems. These planets might have intelligent life.
Has intelligent life from space already visited Earth “Probably not,” says Shostak. “It’s a long way away. However, intelligent life may contact us in other ways, such as radio. In fact, they may be trying to communicate with us now, but we don’t have the right tools to receive their messages. However, this is changing. By 2525, we could make contact with other life forms in our universe and we might help each other.”
48.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A.intelligent life B.astronomer C.telescope D.universe
49.Why was it hard to look for signs of intelligent life in the universe in the past
A.There were not any smaller planets.
B.The Milky Way didn’t exist at that time.
C.The astronomers were not interested in them.
D.There were not any powerful telescopes.
50.Why hasn’t intelligent life from space visited us yet according to Shostak
A.They are afraid of us.
B.It’s far away from us.
C.They don’t want to see us.
D.They don’t know how to use radio signals.
51.In Shostak’s opinion, which of the following statement is TRUE
A.There is life on other planets because there are nearly 100 billion galaxies.
B.We might be able to get in touch with other life forms in 2525.
C.Intelligent life from space doesn’t have tools to send message.
D.It is too short to have intelligent life on other planets.
52.We can read the passage in ________ part of a magazine.
A.sports B.business C.science D.advertisement
By the year 2040, classrooms will be totally different from what they are now. Here are some typical examples of the changes we may see in schools in future.
Interactive (互动的) walls will take the place of traditional blackboards. In traditional classrooms, teachers write on blackboards, but in future classrooms, teachers will write all the important words and knowledge points on the interactive walls. Students can also show their writing to the teachers on their intelligent desks. This can make students more active and more interested in class.
Holograms (全息图) will bring a new learning experience. What does outer space look like Most of us learn about this from photos in books, but it is hard to have a real understanding only through these flat pictures. Students in the future will be able to have very different experiences. They can learn from 3D pictures in the classroom with the help of holograms. They can “get close to” stars, planets or even ancient creatures.
Virtual (虚拟) reality (VR) will offer students real scenes in class. When students learn about a king in history, they will be able to “walk” in the palace with him and feel the life of the ancient palace. When studying natural sciences, they can “step into” a rainforest or a deep sea. They will not only read about knowledge in books, but also “experience” it personally.
53.What can interactive walls do according to Paragraph 2
A.Help students ask questions.
B.Show students’ writing to the teachers.
C.Make teachers learn important words.
D.Write the words on traditional blackboards.
54.What does the underlined word “They” refer to in Paragraph 3

A new study shows the world creates about 57 million tons of plastic pollution every year. Researchers say the amount is enough to fill New York City’s Central Park with plastic waste as high as the Empire State Building.
The researchers who joined this study examined plastic that goes into the open environment, not plastic that is properly burned or buried (埋葬). Governments fail to deal with waste properly that is a big reason why Southeast Asia and Africa produce the most plastic waste. India leads the world in producing plastic pollution, with more than 9.3 million tons a year. That number is far more than double the amount produced by the next big-polluting nations, Nigeria and Indonesia. Other top plastic polluters are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Brazil.
The study used AI to research plastics that were wrongly burned or just left in the open environment. In both cases, microplastics (微塑料) are spread, said Velis, the study’s lead writer. Several studies have looked at how common microplastics are in our drinking water and in our bodies. Scientists are still not quite sure how dangerous microplastics are for human health.
Some experts worried that the study only paid attention to pollution but ignored (忽视) plastic production. Plastic production is likely to rise from about 400 million tons a year to more than 1.1 billion tons. It lets out large amounts of greenhouse gas (温室气体) that makes the earth warmer. Neil Tangri, a researcher working on waste and environmental programs, said, “It’s not exact to say now all we need to do is manage the pollution better. It’s necessary but it’s not the whole story.”
68.Why is the Empire State Building mentioned in Paragraph 1
A.To share a secret in the building.
B.To call for efforts on a green life.
C.To explain how serious the plastic pollution is.
D.To talk about the biggest polluted place.
69.Which of the following countries produces the least plastic waste
A.India. B.Brazil. C.Indonesia. D.Nigeria.
70.What can we know about microplastics
A.They’ve been found in drinking water. B.They only come from burned plastic.
C.They are good for the human body. D.They hide in everyone’s body.
71.What do Neil Tangri’s words mean
A.It’s risky to manage the plastic waste.
B.The plastic industry is in great trouble.
C.We can’t just focus on the plastic pollution.
D.We can do nothing but manage the waste better.
72.What is the best title of the passage
A.The world is producing too much plastic waste.
B.Microplastics require further research.
C.Efforts are needed to beat plastic production.
D.Plastic industry is warming the earth quickly.
Carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) is a greenhouse gas and it is one of the causes of global warming. Trees naturally take in carbon dioxide from the air and store it in their wood. However, when trees die, the stored carbon dioxide is released (释放) back into the air. Scientists have been searching for ways to take carbon dioxide away from the atmosphere (大气层) and safely store it for hundreds of years.
In 2013, a group of researchers designed an experiment to test an ancient method to fight against global warming. Their goal is to prevent the decomposition (分解) of wood and the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burying it underground, which is known as the “wood vaulting (木拱顶)”. This method is not only simple, but also costs little. It may reduce up to 10 billion tons of carbon emissions (排放) every year, which means about 20% of the greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere disappear each year.
During the experiment, researchers unexpectedly discovered a 3,775-year-old red cedar tree (红杉树), which was covered with clay (粘土) and was protected well. It only lost about 5% of its carbon, while over 95% of the carbon was kept for nearly 4,000 years. This ancient piece of wood seems to show the “wood vaulting” could really work. Besides, it showed the important role of clay in protecting wood from water, air, and other types of damage.
Although the “wood vaulting” itself cannot solve the problem of global warming, it can be part of the solution. The ________ provides a natural and economical way to fight against climate change.

The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) is causing increased deadly air pollution. AI requires huge computer processing, demanding constant electricity from power plants and backup generators. This pollution is projected to cause over 1,000 early deaths yearly in the U.S. by 2030, with public health costs nearing $ 20 billion annually due to illnesses and missed work or school days.
Despite these impacts, the problem appears overlooked by the tech industry. “If you examine tech companies’ sustainability reports, they mention carbon emissions (碳排放) and water use, but completely ignore harmful air pollutants already damaging public health,” explains Shaolei Ren, a study author.
The research team recommends that tech companies report air pollution from their electricity use and generators. They also call for proper compensation for communities suffering the worst health effects from this pollution.
Notably, AI-related air pollution harms certain low-income neighborhoods more severely, partly because they often sit closer to power sources. Furthermore, pollution spreads across state boundaries. “Data centers pay local taxes,” Ren notes, “but health impacts reach nationwide. Other affected areas receive no compensation.” For example, pollution from Virginia data centers spreads into seven neighboring regions.
As tech companies compete to launch new AI services, dangerous air pollutants—especially tiny particles entering lungs—are expected to rise sharply. By 2030, health damage from AI pollution could match that of all vehicles in California.
“AI’s growth hugely increases demand for data centers and energy, making it the fastest-growing energy user across all industries,” Ren states. Training just one major AI model creates pollution equal to 10,000 car trips between Los Angeles and New York.
“If your relatives have asthma or heart conditions, this pollution may harm them today. This serious health problem cannot wait,” Ren warns.
78.What do tech company reports fail to include about environmental impact
A.Power plants’ costs. B.Harmful air pollutants.
C.Carbon emissions data. D.Water conservation efforts.
79.What does the underlined word “compensation” in paragraph 3 most likely mean
A.Money or support for losses suffered. B.New equipment to reduce pollution.
C.Scientific research on air quality. D.Medical treatment for illnesses.
80.Why does Ren say pollution spreads “nationwide”
A.To argue for higher local taxes.
B.To prove generators are inefficient.
C.To encourage relocation from cities.
D.To show all affected communities require attention.

A Letter from a Red-Crowned Crane
Dear humans,
I’m a red-crowned crane living in Zhalong Wetland, Qiqihar. I’m writing this letter to express my thanks to you.
A few years ago, my home was in danger. The water in the wetland was polluted by industrial waste. Many of my friends died of illness because of the bad water quality. The reeds, which we depend on for food and shelter, were cut down in large numbers. We had to fly far away to find food and a safe place to live. We were worried that we would lose our home forever.
But things have changed a lot since then. You have taken many measures to protect us and our habitat. The government has built water treatment plants to clean the water. They have also banned cutting down reeds and hunting cranes. Many volunteers come to the wetland to clean up rubbish and plant new reeds. You have also set up a protection center to take care of sick and weak cranes.
Now, Zhalong Wetland has become a beautiful and safe home again. The water is clear, and the reeds are lush. We have enough food to eat and a safe place to raise our babies. Every year, more and more cranes come here to spend the winter. We can fly freely in the sky and dance happily on the ice. We feel very happy and grateful.
However, we still face some challenges. Sometimes, tourists throw rubbish in the wetland or get too close to us, which disturbs our life. Climate change also affects our living environment. We hope that you can continue to protect us and our home. Please remember that we are your friends. Protecting us is protecting yourselves.
Thank you again for your kindness and efforts. We wish to live in harmony with you forever.
