I've been motivated—and demotivated—by other folks' achievements all my life.
When I was a teenager,a neighborhood friend 41.won a marathon race. Feeling motivated,I started running 42.regularly,but then two things happened. First,a girl I met one day told me she was 43.training for a “super,”referring to a 52.4-mile double marathon. Then, the next day I went on my longest run—15 miles. To be honest,I 44.hated it! Between the girl making my __45__seem small and the pure boredom of jogging,I decided that the only 46.reason I'd ever run again is if a big dog was running after me!
45.A.advantage
B.achievement
C.contribution
D.influence
典例2] (2023·新课标Ⅱ卷)It just 44.happened that I was planning another PNP flight with another pilot,Karen, who 45.offered to take Tiffy from Kansas City to Virginia. What I was to do was fly to Topeka to 46.pick__up Tiffy.
...
The flight was 53.uneventful,and Tiffy was a great passenger. The next day,she __54__ with Karen and made it back to George in Virginia within a few days.He was so 55.thankful and sent me a nice e-mail with pictures. It felt great to know that I had helped bring this family together again.
54.A.returned B.fought
C.flew D.agreed
根据前文中“I was planning another PNP flight with another pilot,Karen, who 45.offered to take Tiffy from Kansas City to Virginia”和空前的“The flight was 53.uneventful,and Tiffy was a great passenger.”
[典例3] (2025·全国一卷)I took a picture of the vase and posted it online, for $10. A couple of messages came in, one wanting additional __46__, another asking for a price cut. As our 47.move day drew near, I settled on a new price ($0) and reposted it. The 48.description:__“I hate this vase. Maybe you won't.” In an instant, a woman raced into my house and left happily with the vase.
46.A.fees
B.photos
C.receipts
D.models
前文“I took a picture of the vase”中“picture”与“additional ________”形成同义复现(picture=photo),买家询问“更多照片”符合网购物品时的常见需求。
[典例4] (2025·浙江卷1月)The platform has enabled Ribeiro to realise her dream with a great deal of freedom, as 50.opposed to a restaurant where the service is 51.impersonal, the menu is known in advance, and the meal is expected to be no 52.surprise.
“But it's also a great __53__, for it can sometimes take days to 54.organise a single event,” Ribeiro said. “This platform is not only 55.reserved for professional cooks, but also for those willing to discover new experiences.”
53.A.lesson B.pleasure
C.success D.challenge
根据下文“it can sometimes take days to 54.organise a single event”可知,有时组织一个活动可能需要几天的时间,这是一件具有挑战性的事情。
典例5] (2025·全国一卷)My husband and I had just sold our house and we were busy 41.emptying out the beloved home our family had spent 23 years filling up. We had decided on key items for the 42.apartment we were moving to in town, donated what we could, and rented a place to 43.store our supposedly important objects. That left a house still __44__ with things that, while not particularly 45.valuable,__didn't belong in a landfill
44.A.covered
B.decorated
C.stuffed
D.equipped
be covered with覆盖、be decorated with装饰、be equipped with配备,均不符合“堆满杂物”的描述。
典例6] (2023·全国乙卷)To become the Olympic champion in the individual (个人) all-around event,Gabby Douglas had to leave everything she 41.knew best. She had to __42__ her bedroom in Virginia. She had to say __43__ to her two dogs and to the beach, where she loved to 44.ride waves on her board.

“Gabby Douglas had to...”“She had to ________”及“She had to say ________”这三个句子句式相同,第一句描述Gabby Douglas不得不离开自己熟悉的一切,后面两个句子所表达的内容在方向和情感色彩上应该与第一个句子一致。
B
A
·表示转折:however、but、nevertheless、whereas等;
·表示条件:if、once、unless、in case of 等;
·表示递进:besides、in addition(to)、what's more、even 等;
·表示让步:even though、even if、though、although、while、in spite of、despite 等;
·表示因果:because、since、for、as、so、therefore、as a result等;
·表示时间关系:before、after、when、until 等。
[典例7] (2025·全国二卷)Ms Donohue used to be laughed at for being too old to work out, but she has proved the __54__ wrong in the best possible way and has indeed become an 55.inspiration for many social media users.
54.A.instructors
B.admirers
C.beginners
D.doubters
D
[典例8] (2024·新课标Ⅰ卷)...Feeling motivated,I started running 42.regularly,but then two things happened.First...Then,the next day...I decided that the only 46.reason I'd ever run again is if a big dog was running after me!

47.A.gave up

Since setting out on the journey, the 47.fitness lover has not only managed to __48__ an impressive set of muscles—but also a huge following on social media.
48.A.grow

50.A.green light
B.road block
C.passing mark
D.stepping stone
The 48.description:__“I hate this vase. Maybe you won't.” In an instant, a woman raced into my house and left happily with the vase.
__49__, I posted more. My daily posts and the 50.visits I received became a precious ray of light in the chaos of my house. Each exchange provided a chance to 51.spare the landfill and to please another person I might not otherwise have 52.encountered.
49.A.Confused B.Interested
C.Disappointed D.Encouraged
前文提到作者发布免费赠送花瓶的信息后,“a woman raced into my house and left happily with the vase”,这是一个积极的反馈。

One August afternoon, I sat in my kitchen staring at a glass vase that hadn't seen daylight since my wedding.
My husband and I had just sold our house and we were busy__41__ the beloved home our family had spent 23 years filling up. We had decided on key items for the 42.apartment we were moving to in town, donated what we could, and rented a place to 43.store our supposedly important objects.
41.A.painting over
B.looking around
C.emptying out
D.pulling down
[典例2] (2025·浙江卷1月)Manuela Ribeiro has a healthy addiction. It's __41__. A few months ago, the 30-year-old teacher decided it was time to put her 42.hobby to good use. She signed up on the website Bookalokal, and now welcomes 43.strangers into her Brussels flat twice a week for dinner parties.
Ribeiro 44.charges 35 per person for what is usually a three-course meal that can last up to three hours. For Ribeiro, it has become a perfect platform for 45.pursuing her hobby of buying food, __46__ new recipes and holding dinner parties.
“It's a great opportunity to share my passion for food and to 47.meet new people,” said Ribeiro.
41.A.reading
B.traveling
C.cooking
D.teaching
46.A.passing on
B.trying out
C.going over
D.taking down
41.首句的“addiction”需通过后文解释,后文“twice a week for dinner parties”“three-course meal”“share my passion for food”等信息,直接指向“烹饪(cooking)”这一行为。

46.A.way

[典例4] (2025·全国二卷)Evelyn Donohue is a 65-year-old grandma. She only started to__41__seven years ago after having a __42__call.She'd been struggling with eating disorders and health issues, which __43__ led her to getting surgery. After that experience, she knew that she needed to make a__44__.Determined to turn her life around, Ms Donohue began to work out and follow a __45__lifestyle, before discovering a__46__for weightlifting.

44.A.change B.fortune
C.wish D.deal
45.A.risky B.traditional
C.comfortable D.healthy
When seven years ago(七年前)至今
Who Evelyn Donohue(65
由“Ms Donohue began to work out”可知,此处指她在一次警醒之后开始锻炼。
