William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋) — these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family.
Most of their trips seem far from relaxing — cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable,” he said.
However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent (不一致的) with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore, the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time.
Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says.
4. How can we describe the Lindesays’ trips
A. Traditional. B. Boring. C. Dangerous. D. Challenging.
5. What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Visit. B. Avoid. C. Contact. D. Compare.
6. What problem does the family meet when traveling
A. They hold different educational ideas. B. They are short of money.
C. They have scheduling problems. D. They are faced with language barriers.
7. Which statement may Lindesay agree with according to the text
A. Man who travels far knows more. B. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
C. Rome was not built in a day. D. Actions speak louder than words.

Chinese Olympic gold medalist Quan Hongchan led the Guangdong women’s diving team to a championship win at the National Games on Sunday night. It was Quan’s first return to the pool after missing domestic (国内的) and international competitions for 183 days due to injuries, making her victory even more exciting for fans — many of whom had waited anxiously for her comeback.
The Olympian and social media influencer earned waves of cheers and shouts from on-site audience when she showed her special water splash disappearance skill in the swimming pool. Every dive she did was smooth and precise (精确的), and her performance in the final round earned the highest score from the judges. Quan, who was paired with Wang Weiying, came in first in women’s pair 10m platform, beating her former teammate Chen Yuxi, who was paired with Zhang Minjie, representing Shanghai — though the two still hugged and smiled after the competition, showing their friendship.
The teenage diving talent will also compete in the women’s pair 10m platform, but she will not take part in the women’s 10m platform individual event to avoid worsening her injuries. Quan, the county’s youngest athlete to have won three Olympic gold medals, became a freshman of Guangzhou-based Jinan University in September. She now spends her mornings on school courses and afternoons training, carefully balancing her studies with training.
She won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 when she first appeared in a big international competition at the age of 14, then kept her title at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won the women’s pair 10m platform with Chen Yuxi. Even though 18-year-old Quan Hongchan is now taller and had taken a break from training for half a year, she can still perform amazing dives.
For Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, this year’s National Games are a big sports event, and Quan’s comeback victory has not only made her team proud, but also inspired many young sports lovers across the country to keep working hard for their dreams.
8. Why won’t Quan Hongchan compete in the women’s 10m platform individual event
A. She is not selected for the individual event.
B. She wants to focus on her university studies.
C She wants to avoid making her injuries worse.
D. She needs to rest for the next international competition.
9. How is paragraph 4 organized
A. By telling reasons. B. By giving examples.
C. By following time order. D. By making comparisons.
10. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Quan’s main goal is to inspire young athletes across the country.
B. Quan’s victory is meaningful beyond just winning a gold medal.
C. The National Games are more influential than the Olympic Games.
D. The 2024 Paris Olympics were the most important event in Quan’s career.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. A New Student at Jinan University B. The National Games in Guangdong
C. Quan Hongchan’s Winning Comeback D. Quan Hongchan’s Injury Treatment
D
Why are some people more willing to deal with hard things And is there a way to make hard things easy to do To answer this, we need to look at dopamine (多巴胺). Dopamine is often seen as a “pleasure molecule (分子)”. But that’s not exactly what it does. Dopamine makes us want things. And this desire gives us the drive to take action.
Actually, your brain sets what’s important mainly based on how much dopamine it expects to get. If an activity gives out too little dopamine, you won’t feel much urge to do it. But if an activity gives out a lot of dopamine, you’ll want to do it again and again. So when is dopamine released (释放) Any activity where you expect a possible reward (回报) will release it.
In today’s digital world, we’re exposing our brains to unnaturally high levels of dopamine every day, even if we don’t realize it. Some examples of behaviors that release a lot of dopamine are: scrolling through social media, playing video games, and so on.
You might think, “So what It’s not hurting me at all.” But that’s wrong. Our bodies have a biological system called homeostasis (体内动态平衡). When there’s an imbalance, our body adjusts to it. Basically, your brain gets used to high dopamine levels, and those levels become your new normal. So you develop dopamine tolerance (耐受性). This can be a big problem because things that don’t give you much dopamine won’t interest you anymore. That’s why people usually prefer playing video games or surfing the Internet over studying or working on their projects.
But it’s possible to make hard things feel easier. Stay away from unnaturally high dopamine levels, or at least be exposed to them much less often. Only then will ordinary, daily activities that release little dopamine become interesting again, and you’ll be able to do them for longer. That’s why you might want to cut down on your phone and computer use, as well as other behaviors that release a lot of dopamine.
To some degree, we all depend on dopamine. And that’s good because dopamine encourages us to reach our goals and improve ourselves. But it’s up to you to decide where you get your dopamine. Will you get it from things that don’t help you Or from working on your long-term goals The choice is yours.
12. When is dopamine released
A When we feel unmotivated to start tasks. B. When we take pleasure in our behavior.
C. When possible rewards can be earned. D. When difficult things come into being.
13. What can we learn from the text
A. Dopamine does great harm to our body. B. It’s hard for our body to stay balanced.
C. Dopamine tolerance keeps us away from games. D. Video games produce more dopamine than studying.
14. What is the purpose of the fifth paragraph
A. To offer solutions to dopamine tolerance. B. To introduce the bad effects of dopamine.
C. To explain why dopamine is harmful. D. To stress the importance of dopamine.
15. What is the author’s attitude toward dopamine
A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Supportive. D. Disapproving.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My mom only had one eye. I didn’t know why and she never told me what had happened to her. I hated her. She was such an embarrassment.
She ran a small shop at a flea market (跳蚤市场) and collected old clothes and some other things to sell for the money we needed. Once during elementary school, it was a field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed and wondered how she could do this to me. I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school, my schoolmates asked me, “Your mom only has one eye !” and they laughed at me.
I was so angry with my mom and wished that she would just disappear from my world. So I said to my mom, “If you’re only going to make me a joke, why don’t you just stay far away from me ” My mom did not respond. I felt a little bad, but at the same time, I felt so good to have said what I wanted to say. Maybe it was because my mom hadn’t punished me, I didn’t think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.
For the words I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching (掐) at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my one-eyed mom and our terrible poverty (贫困). I told myself that I would become successful in the near future, so I studied very hard. Later, I got accepted by Seoul University. I left my mom and went to Seoul to study.
Then I got married there. I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. I was living happily as a successful man. I enjoyed the life in Seoul because it was a place that didn’t remind me of my mom and my past. This kind of happiness was getting bigger and bigger until one day someone knocked at my door.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
It was my mom still with her one eye!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I felt relieved (如释重负) about my mom’s leaving, but days later, a letter about her lost eye turned my world upside down.

【答案】12. C 13. D 14. A 15. B

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
It was my mom still with her one eye!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I felt relieved (如释重负) about my mom’s leaving, but days later, a letter about her lost eye turned my world upside down.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
It was my mom still with her one eye! It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom’s eye. I screamed at her and said that I didn’t know her, asking how she dared to come to my house and scare my daughter. In response to this, my mom quietly answered, “Oh, I’m so sorry.” She said she might have gotten the wrong address, and she disappeared out of sight.
I felt relieved (如释重负) about my mom’s leaving, but days later, a letter about her lost eye turned my world upside down. The secret was out: my mom gave me her eye when I was young, as mine was lost in an accident. Overwhelming (压倒性的) shame crushed me. I broke down. Tears blurred my sight. She saw my whole world with one eye, while I, with two, was blind to her love. Her one eye, once a shame, now glowed like stars. I must find her to beg for forgiveness, and finally told her, “Mom, I love you.”
