阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
There’s plenty of sunshine, sand, and celebration to go around in July. You deserve a vacation this month, and we have four places that are well worth visiting this July.
Antigua, Guatemala
Antigua is the one-time capital of Guatemala, a colonial-era city that earned UNESCO World Heritage site status more than 40 years ago for its amazing baroque architecture (巴洛克建筑). There are big buildings, cobbled (铺有鹅卵石的) streets, and, especially, ruins that were left after the last major earthquake in 1976.
Aix-en-Provence, France
The Festival International d’Art Lyrique is happening in Aix-en-Provence, which runs from July 3 to 23. This is a world-class celebration of classical music, with a heavy emphasis on opera. Performances this year will include Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, Kurt Weill’s The Three Penny Opera, and Verdi’s Otello. It’s determinedly low-priced, since the event is state-funded, with tickets for performances starting at 37.
San Diego, California
From July 19 to 23 this year, costume (服装) play’s spiritual home returns to San Diego: the original, and still largest, Comic-Con (动漫展), which first took place here in 1970. Last year, more than 135,000 people attended the event and we expect this year’s number to more than match that record.
Calgary, Canada
Calgary is the rodeo (竞技表演) capital of the world. It hosts the Calgary Stampede from July 7 to 16, 2025. The world’s largest outdoor rodeo will take place at GMC Stadium. Here you will see people show their skills at riding wild horses and catching cattle with ropes. Programming will ensure that the native Indian stories of this region aren’t overlooked.
1. Why is the Festival International d’Art Lyrique affordable
A. Because all French citizens enter the celebration easily.
B. Because tourists there are very rich and lead a good life.
C. Because the performers charge low to save money for the event.
D. Because the tickets are priced reasonably due to government funding.
2. What can visitors do if they go around San Diego in July
A. Express their appreciation of their favorite comic characters.
B. Enjoy programs about the native Indian stories of this region.
C. Attend an affordable world class celebration of classical music.
D. Admire baroque architecture at a UNESCO World Heritage site.
3. Which place best suits visitors who want to view cowboy culture
A. Antigua, Guatemala. B. Calgary, Canada.
C. San Diego, California. D. Aix-en-Provence, France.

If you look around your city, you might spot girls wearing hanfu in subways or people wearing T-shirts with Chinese characters on the streets. A new trend is taking hold in China —guochao, or “China-chic”.
The term characterizes the rise of China’s native fashion trends. It has expanded the concept of “Made in China”, which has been recognized as the representation of Chinese culture and aesthetics (美学) offered by homegrown Chinese brands.
China-chic came into the spotlight in 2018. Before that, big-name foreign companies, such as NIKE, ADIDAS and PUMA, dominated the world market. But that year, Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning changed things up. During the 2018 New York Fashion Week, Li-Ning introduced its Taoism-inspired Wu Dao collection. The collection not only had a trendy look, but also included elements of traditional Chinese culture. It immediately grabbed attention at home and abroad. As a result, the company recorded 20 percent profit growth in 2018, marking the first time the brand’s revenue had hit the 10 billion yuan mark since its founding.
The trend to embrace domestic brands has since spread rapidly to various sectors and products, from food and drinks to clothing, mobile phones and electric vehicles. For example, White Rabbit, whose sweet candy brings back childhood memories for many, launched its perfume and lip balm. “We want White Rabbit to be a brand that young people want to share,” said Shen Qinfeng, the company’s marketing manager.
“Now, the guochao trend is moving to the next stage, where its success will rely, first and foremost, on gaining cultural confidence rather than Western recognition,” according to Kerr a Zhou, founder of brand strategy consultancy Kerrisma. No matter how the guochao trend develops, there’s one thing that won’t change: Behind the craze is people’s positive attitude toward the country’s development and their recognition of growing confidence in national culture, added Zhou.
4. How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1
A. By describing certain scenes. B. By quoting a famous saying.
C. By providing some statistics. D. By giving some examples.
5. What can we infer from paragraph 3
A. Li-Ning stimulated the development of guochao.
B. Guochao is a new trend popular throughout the world.
C. Guochao refers to people’s preference for ancient culture.
D. It’s before 2018 that guochao had received great attention.
6. Why did Li-Ning get so much attention during the 2018 New York Fashion Week
A. It took the lead in the similar brands.
B. It adopted Western design in its sportswear.
C. Its revenue hit the 10-billion-yuan mark that year.
D. Its products followed the trend and reflected Chinese elements.
7. What may Kerra Zhou agree with
A. Chinese is still following the Western trend.
B. Guochao’s success relies on Western recognition.
C. National pride arouses the passion for guochao.
D. Cultural awareness is the key to winning market share.
C
When people talk about suddenly remembering old memories , the memories they’ re referring to are usually episodic (情景的) memories. As the name suggests, this type of memory stores the scenes of our life.
Another type of memory that can also be suddenly remembered is semantic memory. Our semantic memory is the storehouse of our knowledge, containing all the facts we know.
Usually, the recall of episodic and semantic memories has easily identifiable triggers (诱因) in our context. Context includes our physical surroundings as well as the aspects of our mental state, such as thoughts and feelings. For example, you’re eating a dish at a restaurant, and its smell reminds you of a similar dish your mom used to make. This is episodic memory. When someone says the word “Oscar”, the name of the movie that won the Oscar recently flashes in your mind. That belongs to semantic memory.
These memories had obvious triggers in our context, but sometimes, the memories that flash in our minds have no identifiable triggers. They seem to flash across our minds out of nowhere; therefore, they’ve been called mind-pops (闪念).
Mind-pops shouldn’t be confused with insight, which is the sudden pop ping up of a potential solution to a complex problem in the mind. Thus, mind- pops are semantic or autobiographical memories that suddenly flash in our minds without an easily identifiable trigger.
Mind-pops may comprise any piece of information, be it an image, a sound, or a word. They’re often experienced by people when they’re engaged in mundane tasks like mopping the floor or brushing teeth. Such ordinary and unexciting routines tend to inspire something in our mind. For example, you’re reading a book, and suddenly, the image of your school corridor pops into your mind for no reason. What you were reading or thinking at the time had no connection to your school.
I do experience mind-pops from time to time. But when I tried to look for cues in my con text that may have triggered my mind-pops, I would fail. Maybe such mind-pops are completely random.
8. Which of the following might be episodic memory
A. You predict a heavy rain is on the way.
B. A good idea flashes into your mind suddenly.
C. A song reminds you of your middle school graduation.
D. You think of a round shape when hearing the word “circle”.
9. What is a feature of mind-pops
A. They have obvious triggers. B. They come out without warning.
C. They appear in the form of images. D. They often bring long- lasting memories.
10. What does the underlined word “mundane” in paragraph 6 probably mean
A. Careful. B. Dull. C. Necessary. D. Challenging.
11. What is the aim of this passage
A. To explore human inner thoughts. B. To point out the memory formation.
C. To distinguish different memory scenes. D. To explain some similar memory phenomena.
D
When colds and flu hit, many people automatically turn to over-the-counter (OTC) medicines to push through and treat their symptoms. Although these medicines are easily accessible and widely used, it might come as a surprise to many people to learn that they are not risk-free. A study estimated that every year, 26,735 people went to the emergency room for adverse (不利的) events related to OTC cold and cough medicines.
When two or more drugs are used together, their interactions can sometimes produce unexpected harmful effects. Physicians are typically knowledgeable about potential drug interactions, so it is very important for patients to ask their healthcare providers which OTC medicines are safe for them to use.
It is important to read the package ingredients of OTC medicines closely to avoid duplication of doses (剂量重复). Cold medicines are typically made up of multiple ingredients. A person who takes a single-ingredient medicine paired with one of these multi-ingredient medicines can receive an unsafe dose of that ingredient.
While everyone could potentially experience adverse effects from cold and flu medicines, some groups — including older adults, children and pregnant women — may be at greater risk. Older people who are using prescribed drugs to treat multiple health conditions may have a higher risk of drug interactions because of the higher number of medicines being used at the same time to treat different conditions. The aging body is not as expert at absorbing, distributing and clearing medicines as younger bodies are. This can put older adults at higher risk for an overdose and drug-to-drug interactions with some medicines.
The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not recommend giving cold medicines to children under age 4. Because of a variety of factors, young children have a higher risk of an accidental overdose and adverse events that could lead to death.
12. What does the author advise patients to do in Paragraph 2
A. To ask for suggestions from doctors. B. To buy medicines from hospitals.
C. To read the package ingredients of drugs. D. To take drugs as early as possible.
13. What’s the purpose of mentioning cold medicines in Paragraph 3
A To provide a medical choice for people who catch a cold.
B. To show cold medicines are more likely to cause bad effects.
C. To explain OTC medicines often have more than one ingredient.
D. To stress the importance of learning about medicines’ ingredients.
14. What can we infer about older people in Paragraph 4
A. They can’t cope with aging positively. B. Their body can’t handle medicines easily.
C. They are more easily affected by diseases. D. Their desire for health makes them unwise.
15. What’s the best title for the passage
A. Say No to OTC Drugs B. Tips on Taking OTC Drugs
C. OTC Medicines May Not Be Safe D. How to Deal with an OTC Drug Overdose
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
There are a few key tips that will help you effectively present your work and your ideas in the professional world.
___16___
Probably the most important aspect of a presentation is what you do in advance. Preparation is vital in organizing your thoughts and ideas into a whole that makes sense to your audience. Plus, knowing the material backwards and forwards means that you can be quicker and more accurate in answering questions and will allow you to ad-lib (随口说出) or go off script (脚本) in a personal and confident manner.
Practice with a friend.
Along with the preparation for the presentation itself, it’s important to practice what you’re going to say ahead of time, preferably with another person who could give you feedback. Practicing in front of somebody else, instead of just a mirror, will allow you to get an objective perspective on your performance, while also giving you a bit of an audience to work with. ___17___
Breathe and relax.
During the actual presentation, it is important to remember to breathe and relax. This can be hard to remember when you’re in the midst of what you’re doing in front of an audience, but breathing will automatically slow you down and relax you during it. ___18___ I would advise a couple of deep breaths before starting a new slide point, just to keep your timing right.
Control your body language.
___19___ When giving a presentation, just as important as what you’re saying is how you say it. Project confidence by looking out at people in the eyes and directing your presentation to the audience instead of behind them. It can also be a helpful tip to have open and inviting body language which can create a connection with the people you’re presenting to. ___20___
A. Prepare properly.
B. Organize your thoughts.
C. For instance, a few hand gestures are of great help.
D. The most important thing is to have fun and try to show you are listening.
E. Researchers say that the majority of communication is nonverbal, and I tend to agree.
F. Breaths can also effectively act as pauses in the presentation and give you a chance to gather your thoughts.
G. Find someone who is patient enough to sit through your talk and comfortably support you, but also give constructive criticism.

For many young athletes like him in Whitehorse, Yukon, the Yukon Cross-Country Ski Championships were more than just a competition. It was their dream. A year ago, Johnny qualified for the Championships and successfully won a medal.
After the competition, Johnny was eager to share his experience with Hayden, his teammate and best friend. Hayden had narrowly missed qualifying for the Championships. Johnny had watched his friend train tirelessly, push himself to the limit, and always keep his big smile. Johnny knew how much the Championships meant to Hayden.
Johnny handed Hayden some colorful pins. “These are pins I traded with athletes from all over Yukon,” Johnny said with a smile, “I want you to have them, so you can feel a part of the event too.”
Hayden was touched, “Thanks, Johnny. This means a lot.”
“Next time,” Johnny continued, “I hope you can also experience the event. I know you’ll make it.”
Hayden nodded, “I’ll work even harder for that.”
This year’s Yukon Cross-Country Ski Championships would be held in a month. Coach Nick guided the team through daily tough training and the team made significant progress in their skating, cornering, and downhill techniques. Meanwhile, they enhanced their endurance and balance. Both Johnny and Hayden met the Championship standards. Given Johnny’s rich competitive experience. Coach Nick once again qualified Johnny for this year’s event and Hayden was selected as an alternate (替补).
The qualification for the competition excited Johnny, but there was always an idea staying in his mind. Johnny knew his friend had been wanting to go to the Championships for several years. He believed Hayden deserved this opportunity as he had trained so hard. The coach was moved by Johnny’s selfless act. After considering Johnny’s request carefully, the coach agreed to let Hayden take Johnny’s place.
Hayden accepted the precious chance to compete in the Championships. He was extremely grateful to Johnny. He knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and he didn’t want to let Johnny down. In the following days, Hayden trained even harder. When the Championships finally arrived, he gave it his all. Although the competition was tough, Hayden’s determination and hard-work paid off. He performed well and achieved a great result, making both Johnny and himself proud.
