阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
David Fisher is good at jumping rope (绳). He has written some children’s books about a hero who jumps rope. Last December, the stories he wrote became a reality.
One winter day, David and his son Felix were outside. Suddenly, Felix heard someone crying for help and immediately told his father. They followed the sound and discovered that their neighbour (邻居) and his dog had fallen into the icy lake.
David ran to get his jump rope and carefully walked onto the ice to help. Although the ice was cracking (裂开) under his feet, he kept moving forward and finally threw one end of the rope to his neighbour. The young man caught the rope. With the help of Felix, David slowly pulled the neighbour and the dog to a safe place. Then they took the neighbour and his dog home to warm them up.
David has already held three world records (纪录) for his amazing jumping rope skills. Now he has something even more special because of what he did—the Lifesaving Citizen Award from his city!
David hopes that others can do the same thing. “I hope that when a cry for help is heard, everyone can do anything they can to help out,” he said.
David’s story shows that a hero is not someone with superpowers or magical tools—sometimes he just holds a jump rope!
16.Who heard the cries for help first
A.David. B.David’s son. C.David’s dog. D.David’s neighbour.
17.What does “the same thing” refer to

What do you usually do when you feel stressed (有压力的) Some people choose to do some exercise. And some prefer to stay in a room alone and refuse to talk to anyone. Guess what! Just 15 minutes of playing with a friendly dog can reduce stress.
Research shows that pet dogs can help college students feel less stressed. The dogs can also have a great time and feel less stressed after playing with the students!
You might want to know why the researchers chose college students for this research. The World Health Organization carried out research not long ago and found that about 90% of college students experienced stress.
Researchers chose six dogs that were calm in nature and enjoyed staying with people. The dogs were between three and six years old. It was a busy week before the exams (考试), and the students were under great stress. Then, the dogs came to help them. The dogs had never taken part in research before, and the dogs’ owners weren’t there during the playtime. It was just the students and the dogs having a wonderful time together.
Before playing with the dogs, the students were asked to fill out some forms about their stress levels. They also had some checks on their bodies, including their blood pressure (血压). Then, the students played with the dogs for 15 minutes. They could pet the dogs, give them food or just run around with them in the playground.
The results were amazing. After the students played with the dogs, the doctors found that the students felt less stressed. And the dogs’ stress levels stayed low even a week after the research.
So, if you’re feeling stressed, perhaps you should play with a dog. It is a good way to help you feel better!

A study has found that red squirrels are facing growing competition from grey squirrels. However, a team of scientists is working hard to protect these red squirrels. The team has developed a system (系统) to help them, and the system is being tested in some places.
Red squirrels have lived in the UK for about 10, 000 years, but there are only around 160, 000 left. They once lived in most woodlands but now they have to live in northern England, Scotland, the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England and Anglesey in north Wales. While there are 2.7 million grey squirrels in the UK. Grey squirrels were introduced from North America in 1876. They are bigger, so they are better at competing for food and areas to live in. They also carry a virus called squirrelpox. This virus doesn’t harm grey squirrels but can be dangerous for the red squirrels.
To deal with the problems red squirrels are having, scientists have developed a system called Squirrel Agent to help increase red squirrel numbers. The new system uses AI, and it has been trained to look at images and tell grey squirrels and red squirrels apart (分开). The system gets it right 97% of the time.
The aim of the system is to help red squirrels by giving them more food, while stopping grey squirrel populations from getting even bigger. Using the information it has learned, the AI lets red squirrels get to feeders where they can eat lots of food without being with grey squirrels. To stop the grey population getting bigger, the system can offer grey squirrels other food. And there’s something on the food that safely keeps grey squirrels from having too many babies, to keep their numbers in balance. And importantly, a human checks that the AI does identify grey squirrels properly.
23.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A.Where red squirrels once lived. B.When grey squirrels came to the UK.
C.How grey squirrels have got a virus. D.Why red squirrels are in danger in the UK.
24.How can the Squirrel Agent system help red squirrels
A.By offering them more food. B.By taking photos of grey squirrels.
C.By guiding them to most woodlands. D.By training grey squirrels to use the system.
25.What does the underlined word “identify” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.feed B.catch C.protect D.recognize
26.What is the main purpose of the text
A.To describe red squirrels’ living habits. B.To introduce the ways of saving red squirrels.
C.To explain grey squirrels’ problems. D.To show ideas about protecting grey squirrels.

Media designers are using AI to create artistic pet images (图像), such as fashionable cat models, attracting ad makers and businesses.
Since April last year, Chen Jian has got a large following on social media by posting AI-generated (生成) images of cats copying human behavior. One of his most popular posts shows a cat practicing baduanjin, a traditional Chinese fitness exercise. It has received over 160,000 likes.
Chen’s work is among more than 140,000 posts on a certain media platform with the keywords “AI” and “pets”, mostly presenting animal images doing human activities like dressing up, dancing, taking exams, and posing for photos.
Chen, in his thirties, works as an art designer at an internet company in Shanghai. He studied the text-to-image AI tool Midjourney in 2022. “I picked up new skills in my spare time, fearing that AI might replace (取代) designers one day,” Chen said. His goal was to use AI tools to improve his design abilities.
Chen’s idea of the exercising cat came from his personal experience. He had a health problem at that time, and a traditional Chinese medicine doctor advised him to do baduanjin to build up his body. As he practiced the exercises himself, he encouraged people around him to join and then created AI-generated cat images to raise public awareness about health.
“AI tools were becoming popular, yet many people knew little about them. Moreover, there were hardly any human-like pet images generated by AI, which probably explains why my work caught people’s strong interest,” Chen said.
Today, with over 50,000 fans, he has attracted attention from businesses. He chose to work with some well-known milk tea makers, car companies, and internet app developers. “Working with them makes more people notice my work, which is a win-win situation,” Chen said.
Looking ahead, Chen plans to move beyond text and images, exploring AI-generated video creation.
27.What helped Chen Jian get a large following on social media
A.His knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine.
B.His job as an art designer at an internet company.
C.His AI-generated images of cats doing human activities.
D.His work with famous milk tea makers and other businesses.
28.Why did Chen Jian start to learn AI tools
A.He wanted to make his own AI app.
B.He wanted to train his cat using AI.
C.His company asked him to study AI technology.
D.He was afraid AI might replace designers.
29.What made Chen’s AI-generated cat images popular
A.They taught people how to exercise properly.
B.They were supported by a famous ad company.
C.They were the first AI-generated images of cats.
D.They showed his spirit of facing difficulties bravely.
30.What is the main topic of the passage

No one can remember everything, but everyone can learn how to improve their memory. Here are some tips—none of them can make your memory 100% perfect, but all of them are helpful:
________ This way the new information becomes more memorable. Later on, think about the conversation with your friend. It will remind you of the information you wanted to remember.
________ When you’ve remembered a list of new words, stop studying. It’s better to study a lot of material for a small amount (数量) of time than a small amount of material for a lot of time! But remember: you do have to practice your new words often!
________ If you want to remember something, go to bed right after learning it. That is to say, it’s always a good idea to review what you’ve learned before bedtime.
________ For example, it’s easier to remember 198756430387 if you break it into four smaller bits:198-756-430-387.
