Trees are one of the oldest plants on Earth. They keep the air clean, reduce (减少) noise pollution (污染), make water cleaner, and provide (提供) food and building materials (材料).
Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At 1 to 3 years old, young trees learn how to defend themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns (刺) to stop animals from going near.
At the age of 4, trees begin to grow very quickly and become strong enough to face many difficulties later in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults (成年). They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruits.
When a tree is 20 to 25 years old, it becomes a real adult. The tree reaches its largest size. The adult tree can give us shade (树荫) , oxygen and natural beauty. It is a great place for us to have a rest or play games. With good care, the adult tree will go on (继续) to live well for many years.
Little by little, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, they still have their important place in nature. When a tree becomes hollow (空的) or part of it becomes dead, it becomes a home to small animals and a source (来源) of food for many other animals.
Trees are very important in our lives. They help us and nature at every stage of their lives, even after they die. We should protect trees.

①Trees are not just beautiful plants. They are great natural helpers in cleaning our air. Many people don’t realize that trees work every day to make the air we breathe cleaner and safer.
②First trees take in harmful gases like carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). Through photosynthesis (光合作用), they change these bad gases into oxygen (氧气) that all living things need to be alive. One grown tree can make enough oxygen for four people to breathe in just one day.
③Second, trees help stop dust from moving in the air. Their leaves can catch small dirty things before they can enter our bodies. For example, in busy cities, streets with trees can be cleaner than streets without trees.
④Third, trees can even help make the noise less. Their thick leaves and branches absorb sound, making our cities quieter and more peaceful. This is especially helpful in noisy areas.
⑤However, trees need our help too. Every year, millions of trees are cut down around the world by people. This makes it harder for trees to protect the environment. When we lose trees, we lose their cleaning power. We should all help by planting more trees and taking good care of the ones we have. Remember, when we protect trees, we are also protecting ourselves and our earth. Let’s work together to keep our air clean by protecting our trees.

In the following three days, they first sawed the wood into pieces and then chopped them with an axe (斧子). Finally, they put the wood next to the back wall in the yard. “In fact, the most tiring part is not chopping wood, but carrying wood home, because it is wet and heavy,” Xue said.
In the end, Xue and his father chopped about 900 kilograms of firewood. Xue recorded the moment when he and his father were working. Then he shared the short videos online and they became popular. Jake helps Amy get the book in the bookcase. That is what friends do. Friends trust (信任) each other. When they have some problems, they will tell their close friends. Their close friends will keep these secrets (秘密). They share happiness and sadness.
③Sometimes a friend may feel sad. When Ben is sad, Lily makes him feel better. Lily tries to make him smile. That’s what friends do. Sometimes friends may get angry with each other. When that happens, they can talk about how they feel. Later, they can say, “I’m sorry.” That’s what friends do.
④Sometimes friends also argue with each other. But it doesn’t matter. They must learn to understand each other, or the friendship won’t last long. Understanding is the most important in friendship. The third Saturday in December this year was right the winter solstice (冬至). To celebrate it, our teacher decided to teach us to make dumplings together in the labor class on Friday.
We had that class in the dining hall because there were enough kitchen machines and tools for us to use. Our teacher made us into eight groups and each group brought their ingredients like vegetables, flour (面粉), meat, salt, soy sauce, green onions and so on. With the help of our teachers and the chef, we started our work.
First, we mixed the flour with water to make the dough (面团).
Then, we made the filling. We cut the meat and vegetables into small pieces, put them in a bowl and added salt, soy sauce, and green onions.
Next, we rolled the dough into small pieces and used a rolling pin to make them into thin wrappers.
After that, we took a wrapper and put some filling in the center, folded the wrapper and pinched the edges (捏边) to make it rounded. But it was much easier to say than to do.

Now pollution problems are hot topics. We know many things have led to the problems. Factories make tons of plastic (塑料) bottles, plastic straws and metal cans. These things are difficult to clear up. They stay on the earth for over 100 years since they can’t be broken down easily. However, more and more people have realized this problem and chosen to go “green”. Both the customers and the companies are changing in some ways.
On the one hand, customers hope that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions about the environment. Will this shower cream be bad for the environment Can we reuse this box A recent study showed that 40% of adults now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it.
On the other hand, companies now change the way they make and sell their products. Only by doing this can the companies make sure that they are “green” and friendly to the environment. A few years ago, it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry marks to show that the product is green. Some companies also make some ads which are good for the environment. The care for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies think how they do business.

A lot of school students probably don’t think very much about their lunch. They might bring some sandwiches from home or maybe they go to the school dining hall. However, in many poor countries around the world, students do not get lunch at all. Every year, 15,000,000 children die because they don’t have enough food. This large number is why the Really Good School Dinner Program started in 2009.
Many groups ask people to give some money to poor areas. The idea behind the Really Good School Dinner Program is different but simple. Students in the UK buy a healthy meal from their school dining hall. They buy their meal and give ten pence more. So, if their lunch costs 2.50, they pay 2.60. This ten pence is enough to buy a full meal for a hungry child in another country.
This smart way of helping does two important things. First, it gives food to poor children. Second, it helps them go to school. In some very poor places, children have to work to get money for food. But if they get a free meal, they do not have to work and can spend more time studying. When children get an education (教育), they can get a better job and help their families. It is amazing that a free lunch can change so many lives.
The Really Good School Dinner Program runs every February for one week. Students in the UK have given over 28,000 and this program has bought more than 45,000 meals for poor children. Right now, more than 300 schools are in this program, and more new schools are joining each year. The program has also helped children in places with disasters (灾难), like Afghanistan.

80.What’s the best title of the text

Friendship is important in our life. If you are still looking for true friends, start with the advice.
Choosing Friends
Before making friends, think about what kind of people you want to be close with. Many people like friends who have similar interests. But remember—you don’t have to be exactly alike. Sharing some common hobbies is already a good start!
Making Friends
●Smile! It’s the easiest way to make friends. People like those who smile often. No one likes to be with people having an angry face.
●Start a conversation with nice words. For example, you can say, “Your English is so good!” or “I like your notebook!”
●Ask your friends questions about themselves:
“Who is your favourite singer ”
“What do you do after school ”
“Do you like playing soccer ”
Doing Things Together
Doing activities together is a great way to strengthen friendships. You can invite your friend to your home. Play games, watch movies, or study together. Just make sure you BOTH enjoy the activity. For example, if you play video games, play together—don’t let one just watch

Andy, an extrovert
②I enjoy trying new things and playing with many friends. Ken and I head to the beach on Saturdays to surf, and on Sundays, I hang out with Tom, eating and riding. At school, Larry is my best friend. I don’t spend much time with him over the weekends because he likes to play video games at home just by himself. I’m cool with it because I can visit other friends. I value (重视) his friendship a lot because Larry cares about me and often gives great advice on my problems.
Anna, an introvert

Sue is so full of life that her jokes bring much joy to my quiet days. Tina is more like me, and she understands me better than I do. We often take a long walk to share our feelings. I love both my friends and need their different personalities to make my life colourful.
