Denmark has one of the lowest rates of bullying (欺凌) in schools. But this is something that didn’t happen overnight. Anti-bullying programs were introduced in Danish schools over 15 years ago, according to Euronews, but it’s something that has to be constantly updated to meet the changing times.
Programs begin in primary grades where children are taught empathy (共情) and how to avoid bullying. At the Sluseholmen Skole school in Copenhagen, meditation and hugs are part of the morning routine. According to Maja Hindsgaul, a teacher at the school, this is the key to well-being.
“I’m the one they can talk to if something is difficult. And I’m actually talking a lot about who I am and what I like and it’s OK if they like to hug. I like that, too,” she told Euronews. “Of course, they have to learn to read and write and things like that, but they can do that if they feel safe. It’s my task to make them feel safe so that they can develop social skills at school.”
Learning how to live with one another is a large part of the anti-bullying programs and this appears to be working well in the younger grades. “We’re always trying to get the kids to work together in different types of groups, across genders and not always with their best friends,” said teacher Louise Ibsen. “They’re also practicing social skills for how to communicate.”
A new program was rolled out in the 2021/22 school year according to a Mary Foundation news release. Our School Strength is a joint effort from the Mary Foundation, Borns Vilkar, a Danish child organization, and Save the Children Denmark. The program is the result of four years of research and cooperation by the nonprofit groups. It’s designed to deal with bullying up to grade 10 and focuses on students’ well-being and to help the youth feel that they are accepted and play an active role in the community. Anti-bullying programs that teach children empathy for others at a young age can make a big difference when these students become teenagers.

A.By giving them constant hugs. B.By practicing meditation.

D.Denmark’s Anti-bullying Programs Are Recognized Globally

Hurricanes are large storms that produce winds of 119 kilometers per hour or higher. That’s faster than a cheetah, the fastest animal on land. Hurricanes are not only some of the planet’s most violent storms, but also the costliest natural disasters in the United States, researchers reported in 2019 in the journal PNAS. Ranking (排名) the most damaging hurricanes, however, depends on the measures used: usually, economic cost or lives lost.
Katrina was the most expensive hurricane of all time, causing a huge economic loss when it sabotaged New Orleans and other Gulf Coast areas. The cost was over $186 billion, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Katrina’s losses swallowed 1% of the US GDP, or the total value of goods produced and services provided by a country in one year, according to the PNAS study.
John Nielsen-Gammon, a professor of atmospheric sciences at Texas A & M University, told Live Science that the next costliest hurricane was 2017’s hurricane Harvey, which caused $149 billion of damage, mostly due to rainfall that produced widespread flooding across southeast Texas, including Houston.
“Those two storms top the list for economic damage both worldwide and in the US, which is no accidence,” Nielsen-Gammon added. “The most damaging hurricanes are most likely to occur where you have lots of expensive buildings,” he said. “That’s why two United States hurricanes top the list.”
In 2017, Hurricane Maria caused $107 billion in damage in Puerto Rico, placing it third on NOAA’s list of the costliest US storms. Hurricane Sandy, which flooded New York City’s subway tunnels and other areas in 2012, came next on the list ($82 billion), followed by 2021’s Hurricane Ida, which flooded Louisiana. Developing countries also suffered a lot from hurricanes.
32.Why is a cheetah mentioned in paragraph 1
A.To show the fast speed of hurricanes.
B.To compare the speed between hurricanes and a cheetah.
C.To state the bad effect on wild animals from hurricanes.
D.To explain how the fastest animal survives the hurricanes.
33.What does the underlined word “sabotaged” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Followed. B.Ignored. C.Destroyed. D.Defended.
34.What does the second paragraph intend to tell us
A.The reason why Katrina in the US topped the list.
B.The reason why hurricanes took place in the US.
C.The effect of two hurricanes on American economy.
D.The damage to buildings caused by hurricanes in the US.
35.What will most probably be introduced in the following text
A.Types of different hurricanes in Britain.
B.Countries suffering from hurricanes in 2022.

67.阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Mai Lin wasn’t doing well enough at school, or at least she wasn’t satisfied with herself. She wished she could do better.
“Let’s review the material we learned in the last unit,” the history teacher said. “Who can tell us what caused the War of 1812 ” Mai Lin sat at her desk, staring ahead. She hoped the teacher wouldn’t call her name. They hadn’t studied the War of 1812 at her old school and she didn’t know the answer.
“Alison ” the teacher asked instead. Oh, perfect, Mai Lin thought. Of course Alison would have the answer. She seemed to have all the answers. Alison was the most popular girl in school – always surrounded by millions of boyfriends, best friends, and others. She was like a brilliant sun.
Mai Lin hadn’t made one or two friends of her own so far. Her old school was small and low-key, but a shy person like Mai Lin had a chance there. This new school, however, seemed as big as an airport to Mai Lin, and it seemed very hard to get around in it. She still got lost sometimes in the school.
Mai Lin frowned (皱眉) as Alison answered the teacher’s question. Alison probably never got lost, Mai Lin thought to herself. You could probably put Alison down in the middle of a desert, and within five minutes she’d be able to tell you the best way to get home.
History class finally ended, and Mai Lin headed for the gym. The class had been playing basketball. Alison, who was as tall and thin and attractive as a tree, was very good at it. Beside her, Mai Lin felt like a very small and foolish ant. Today, however, the gym teacher pointed to a thick rope hanging from the ceiling and said, “Everybody! You’re going to climb this rope today.”

M: Good afternoon, dear listeners. In today’s program, I’d like to talk about a common exercise. Many people love running early in the morning. Why Actually it has many benefits. Not only will you begin a day more relaxed, but also you’ve already had a sense of achievement. If you’re also eager to enjoy the benefits of a morning run, try these. First, getting ready for a painful start. To many people, getting up early in the morning can be a great pain, especially in cold winter days. So early to bed, early to rise, and make it a habit. Of equal importance is to keep an open mind. Even if you’ve made enough preparation and determination, there are still times, when you want to quit. My advice is to accept the setback and instead of giving up, keep going. Another helpful way is to find someone to be together with you. This can make things more interesting. He or she not only gives you company, but also serves as a monitor.

You need to pay for this trip by Friday. The cost is 6.50 for admission to the Ocean Park and 2.00 towards the cost of the coach. So, that means the amount you need is 8.50. Now, it’s very important for you to bring your lunch. We will provide water and some fruit, so don’t worry about that. We’re going to eat on the beach in front of the Ocean Park, and there won’t be a chance to buy anything, so you must bring your own. It’s going to be a really interesting trip. There are a few special events the day we are going. We’re going to watch the sharks being fed at 3:00, no, hold on, that’s at 2:30. There’s also a talk every morning at 11. The topics change every day and often they talk about fish, but on the day we’re going — that’s next Tuesday — it’s about penguins, so I’m sure you’ll all love that. We’ll give you some worksheets to do while you’re at the Ocean Park, but don’t worry, they’ll be quite easy.

66.Different Views on the Double-Reduction Policy
Recently, students in my class had a discussion about the Double-Reduction policy during our class meeting. 60 percent of students think that there are more advantages coming with the policy. As students have less homework, they can take part in more after-school activities and do physical exercises to build strong mind and body.
By contrast , 25 percent of students consider the policy brings some disadvantages. They hold the opinion that children are more likely to spend too much time playing computer games. In this way, children may have poor eyesight and grades. The rest of students believe that they had an indifferent attitude toward the Double-Reduction policy because this policy is almost not relevant to them.
In my opinion, every coin has two sides. We must plan and manage our time properly to achieve a balance between our schoolwork and hobbies.
67.Paragraph 1:
Hearing the teacher’s words, Mai Lin smiled. She knew what was coming. They’d done lots of physical fitness training at her old school and she was quite good at rope climbing. “Who’s first ” the teacher asked. “Alison ” To Mai Lin’s surprise, Alison turned as pale as the moon and shook her head. “She’s scared,” Mai Lin thought. “Perfect Alison was scared.” Suddenly Mai Lin heard her own voice saying, “I’ll do it.” Alison looked up at Mai Lin in great surprise, and all the other classmates seemed surprised, too. The teacher nodded and told Mai Lin to climb.
Paragraph 2:
Mai Lin stepped forward and got close to the rope. She appeared calm but was extremely excited. She climbed the rope very fast and reached the ceiling within what seemed a few seconds, effortlessly. As she reached the top, she glanced down at her fellow students below. Now it was Alison who appeared like a small ant. She saw Alison looking up, eyes wide with admiration. Mai Lin clung to the top of the rope for a moment longer and then headed down to join the class. Once she got on the ground, everybody cheered. Mai Lin knew she would be different from that day on.
