(共16小题,每小题2.5分;满分40分)
A
If I have a goal in life, it isn’t to be driving a Rolls-Royce. It’s to be giving away more than $1,000,000 a year and having an impact on people’s lives. I have the success today because I always had to work for what I wanted. I grew up accustomed to risks and disappointments, so I was used to moving forward, no matter what.
In 2008, I went to Los Angeles where I tried to get hired as an agent, an analyst and a financial broker. Unfortunately, all these doors slammed in my face. The world’s economy was in a bad state, so I knew I would have to do a little spinning of my own.
Youth involves a certain innocence but also perseverance. The word “can’t” wasn’t in my vocabulary. I partnered with a friend buying distressed multifamily properties around Houston. Even though we were enthusiastic and backed with start-up sums, I didn’t make a deal work. My friend moved on to other projects. Alone, I put all my money into the next real-estate project. I put the time in, I dreamed it, but once again the deal fell through. Two months later, though, the deal came back around. That was when the path opened, luck changed, and I was ready to form my own company. I haven’t looked back. Only ahead.
I’m now able to give back to communities and causes. I donate about $500,000 a year, much of that going to research to cure rare diseases. We also support a lot of services for disadvantaged children in Houston and other places.
I have always been someone who can see the big picture and have never been distracted by things that get in the way. There are lessons to be learned, and the biggest of those is to keep going. You may have to change the path, but always keep that vision in front of you.

For the 70 percent of the world’s population without any chance of using electric washing machines, keeping up with laundry takes up a lot of time. And it is often a painful physical task. The task falls unreasonably to women and girls, who can spend 20 hours a week washing clothes, often without electricity or running water. London engineer Navjot Sawhney, however, has come up with an idea: a portable and lightweight washing machine that is similar to a plastic drum. It also does double duty as a dryer, and costs around $60.
31-year-old Sawhney calls it the Divya, after the woman who inspired the project—his former next- door neighbour in South India, where he spent a year volunteering after leaving his job as an engineer at high- end vacuum (真空吸尘器) maker Dyson. “When I got to know Divya, I was so sad about all the unpaid work she needed to do—cleaning clothes,” says Sawhney. In 2018, he returned to the United Kingdom to found “The Washing Machine Project”, which is developing a washing solution that will be affordable, portable and accessible for everyone, everywhere. After a few months of developing a model, he received some money from Oxfam's Iraq Response Innovation Lab.
Since March 2019, more than 150 Divyas have been given out to refugees in Iraq through non-profit partners. “The response was great,” Sawhney says. His goal is to deliver 8, 000 machines in 10 countries over the next three years. By saving 75 percent of the time and 50 percent of the water required to wash clothes, he says, women and girls will be freer to accept education.
Aside from the Divya, Sawhney has also worked on making fuel-efficient cookstoves, and plans to develop refrigerators, conditioners, and lighting. Sawhney sees the world’s growing refugee crisis as a call for innovation: “There is a huge need for appliances that make life better for people.”
55. What did Navjot Sawhney do to help the women in India
A. He volunteered to wash clothes for them.
B. He called on people in his community to donate clothes.
C. He provided them with free access to education.
D. He worked out a solution by inventing a washing machine.

C. His neighbour’s experience. D. The support of a science lab.
57. What can we infer about the project in Paragraph 3
A. It has created many jobs. B. It has earned a lot of money.

58. Which of the following can best describe Navjot Sawhney
A. Thoughtful and strict. B. Selfless and honest.

Do mosquitoes prefer a certain blood type Maybe—but it’s not just one factor that influences why these winged pests are attracted to us and researchers have not yet reached an agreement on a final answer.
There are two kinds of people in the world: those who return from time in the outdoors covered in itchy mosquito bites and those who can spend hours in the same space and avoid getting bitten at all. Let’s be honest — mosquitoes don’t bite everyone equally.
So, what exactly makes some people more attractive to mosquitoes than others
Science reveals that a variety of factors might make you more palatable to mosquitoes, from your skin microbe and carbon dioxide emitted in your breath to the color of clothing you’re wearing (with colors like red, orange, and black being the most attractive to mosquitoes). But in the end, much of the variation in mosquito preference comes down to two factors: our natural body smell and genetics.
Only the females bite humans and they do it to get a “blood meal,” taking proteins from our blood to make their eggs. To help locate their prey, female mosquitoes use their antennae (触角) and palps, the organs between their antennae, to detect carbon dioxide and smell. That means people who have a high metabolic rate and emit more carbon dioxide, including those who are pregnant, working out, or drinking alcohol tend to be more attractive to mosquitoes.
The question of whether mosquitoes prefer a certain blood type is controversial. One theory suggests that blood type may also help determine mosquito preference. If that’s the case, what blood type do mosquitoes like A study found that the main mosquitoes that carry a certain virus (dengue virus) liked to bite people with type O blood more than those with other blood types.
However, other research says that data from experiments and labs——looking at whether blood type makes someone more or less attractive to mosquitoes——has led to many guesses, but the science is contradictory. Instead, the researchers say that the chance of being someone mosquitoes love to bite has more to do with body smell and skin microbes than blood type.
59. What kind of people are more likely to be bitten by mosquitoes according to the passage
A. People who wear light-colored clothes like white or blue.
B. People with a low metabolic rate who rarely exercise.
C. Pregnant women who emit more carbon dioxide.
D. People who have a strong preference for sweet foods.
60. What does the underlined word “palatable” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Nutritious. B. Dangerous. C. Unpleasant. D. Attractive.
61. What can we infer about mosquito preference for blood types
A. All scientists agree type O blood is most attractive to mosquitoes.
B. The link between blood type and mosquito bites is not proven.
C. Blood type is the most important factor for mosquito bites.
D. Future studies will confirm blood type affects mosquito preference.
62. What is the main idea of the passage
A. To explain why female mosquitoes bite humans and how they locate prey.
B. To introduce factors influencing mosquitoes’ biting preference.
C. To prove skin microbe is more important than blood type for mosquitoes.
D. To compare people easily bitten by mosquitoes and those not.

A Foreign Scholar Devoted to Yuelu Academy and Chinese Wisdom
On a mid-autumn night, Australian scholar Jordan Martin—also known by his Chinese name Ma Zhaoren——wandered through the moonlit courtyards of Yuelu Academy in Hunan province. In the quiet of the ancient halls, he felt the profound weight of a thousand years of learning and a bond with past scholars, a feeling that has kept him rooted in China for over a decade. After earning both his master’s and doctorate in philosophy at the academy, the 38-year-old joined its faculty in 2022, dedicating himself to teaching and researching pre-Qin philosophy while reinterpreting its timeless wisdom for contemporary and global audiences.
Martin’s initial motivation was practical: he yearned to truly master Chinese and recognized that full immersion was the only path. Yet Yuelu Academy offered far more than language practice—he was captivated by its unique sense of mission and academic purity, a quality he had never encountered elsewhere. Blending pre-Qin thought with evolutionary theory, his research explores human nature and moral psychology. He interprets “de”(virtue) as a social signal that stabilizes cooperation. He also emphasizes the universality of pre-Qin ideas, citing Mencius’ concept of extending care beyond the family as an instinct shared by all humans.
Now teaching in Chinese, Martin prioritizes precision, spending countless hours preparing lessons to ensure clear reasoning. At international conferences, he always finds time to introduce Yuelu Academy’s millennium-long history, hoping to spark global colleagues’ curiosity. Guided by the academy’s spirit—“Just as heaven keeps moving forward vigorously, a man of virtue should strive continuously to strengthen himself”—Martin sees his role as a bridge between cultures, preserving tradition while embracing new knowledge in his study, teaching, and daily life.

IV. 写作
概要写作(满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要
Social diversity is the difference in race and other things that make you who you are. Studies show that social diversity can bring people trouble. People with different colors of skin have conflicts over cultures, languages and ways of thinking. However, there are others who struggle to make diversity happen. So, what is good about social diversity
Social diversity can be an advantage in problem solving. One study found that companies with more women leaders did better. They made more money. Another study found the same thing with banks that had nonwhite leaders. They made less money. The reason may lie in the fact that people from different social backgrounds are more likely to address problems in different ways. In other words , social diversity means better problem solving.
Further researches have been done to show why diversity works by looking at it in small groups. In 2006, several scientists studied racial diversity in small groups. The participants in the study needed to share what they knew. They were put in three-person groups. Some groups were all white. Other groups were made up of two whites and one nonwhite. Then, the groups were given a puzzle. Each person had things only he or she knew and needed to share everything to deal with the puzzle. The groups with one nonwhite person did much better than the all - white groups. The study shows being with people like us makes us think we know the same things, which eventually stops us from sharing what we know.
Diversity works not only by sharing various thoughts, but also by promoting hard work. One study asked people to argue against someone else, and participants were told the person had different ideas from them. Naturally, they all thought they would need to work harder when working together for better results. When disagreement comes from a different person, we work harder. Imagine you are in a group. You think people might not agree. One person in your group is American. Another is Chinese. You all have to work together. Then you work harder to make it work. That’s how diversity works.

书面表达 (满分25分)
Dear fellow students,
I’ve recently noticed that many of us lack sufficient physical exercise, which has led to a gradual decline in physical fitness—some even feel tired easily during classes. As teenagers, regular sports are essential: they not only strengthen our bodies and improve immunity but also relieve academic stress and enhance our sense of teamwork.
There are plenty of accessible activities for us: we can jog on the playground before class, play basketball, volleyball or badminton with classmates after school, or practice yoga and skipping rope in our free time. These activities don’t require much equipment but bring great benefits.
I sincerely call on everyone to take action: set aside at least 30 minutes every day for exercise, actively participate in school sports events, and encourage friends to join you. Let’s make physical activity a daily habit, stay energetic, and embrace a healthy and vibrant life!
