Researchers at the University of Exeter in England have crafted a device that employs artificial intelligence (AI) to detect Asian wasps (黄蜂). AI refers to the capability of computers to learn from experiences and execute tasks swiftly that would typically require a significant time investment from humans.
Asian wasps are considered an invasive species, indicating that they are not native to the UK and can disrupt our ecosystem—the environment and its living organisms. These wasps feed on local insects and pose a significant threat to honey bees with a single wasp capable of killing up to 50 honey bees in a day.
The innovative system, named VespAI, uses a sponge cloth soaked with a liquid that attracts wasps. Once the wasps are drawn in, an automatic camera takes pictures of them. The AI then analyzes the photos to determine whether the insect is an Asian wasp or a European wasp, which is a native species.
If an Asian wasp is spotted, a notification is sent right away to the researcher's phone or computer. VespAI acts as an early warning system, allowing for the detection of any Asian wasps that may have entered a new area of the UK. Its high precision helps authorities respond quickly to follow the wasps, find their nests, and get rid of them before they can reproduce.
There is growing concern among experts that Asian wasps may have made a lasting home in the UK rather than being merely transient or accidental arrivals. Currently, the UK's way of dealing with Asian wasps depends on people seeing them, recognizing them, and reporting them. However, many of these reports turn out to be other kinds of insects, which is not a very effective way to handle the situation.
Dr. Thomas O'Shea Wbeller, who worked on VespAI, said this new system woundn't mistake other insects for Asian wasps or miss them when they came around. VespAI has been tested on the island of Jersey and will be tried in other places this year.
1. What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on
A. VespAI's design and operation.

C. VespAI's influence on ecosystem.
D. Traditional wasp detecting methods.
2. What does the underlined word “transient” mean in paragraph 5
A. Widespread. B. Temporary.
C. Frequent. D. Dangerous.
3. Which statement would Dr. Thomas probably agree with
A. VespAI will help manage wasp invasions.
B. VespAI requires constant human inspection.
C. The current reporting system is highly effective.
D. The current methods fail to identify Asian wasps.
4. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. AI Disrupts the Survival of Insects
B. The Threat of Asian Wasps to Bees
C. AI Technology Boosts Wasp Detection
D. The Impact of AI on Insect Identification
文章第三段中的“The innovative system, named VespAI, uses a sponge cloth soaked with a liquid that attracts wasps.(这个创新的系统被命名为VespAI,它用海绵布浸泡了一种吸引黄蜂的液体。)”介绍了这一系统的设计;“Once the wasps are drawn in, an automatic camera takes pictures of them. The AI then analyzes the photos to determine whether the insect is an Asian wasp or a European wasp, which is a native species.(一旦黄蜂被吸引过来,自动相机就会给它们拍照。然后,人工智能分析这些照片,以确定昆虫是亚洲黄蜂还是本地物种欧洲黄蜂。)”介绍了这一系统的操作过程,故选项A“VespAI的设计和操作”为第三段的主要内容。故选A。
根据画线词前文“There is growing concern among experts that Asian wasps may have made a lasting home in the UK (专家们越来越担心亚洲黄蜂可能已经在英国安家落户)”和“rather than(而不是)”以及后文“or accidental arrivals(或意外抵达)”可知,亚洲黄蜂可能已经在英国安家落户,而不仅仅是短暂或意外的到来。
Thomas O'Shea Wbeller, who worked on VespAI, said this new system wouldn't mistake other insects for Asian wasps or miss them when they came around. (研究VespAI的Thomas O'Shea Wbeller博士称,这个新系统不会把其他昆虫误认为是亚洲黄蜂,也不会在亚洲黄蜂来的时候错过它们。)”可知,Dr. Thomas认为VespAI系统是可靠的,将对人们应对黄蜂侵袭起到帮助作用,选项A“VespAI系统将帮助人们对付黄蜂侵袭”这一说法是Dr. Thomas可能会认同的。故选A。
根据本文第一段中的“Researchers at the University of Exeter in England have crafted a device that employs artificial intelligence (AI) to detect Asian wasps(黄蜂). (英国埃克塞特大学的研究人员发明了一种利用人工智能探测亚洲黄蜂的设备。)”及全文的描述可知,本文主要介绍AI科技应用于黄蜂探测,故选项C“AI科技推动黄蜂探测”适合作为本文标题。故选C。

(2025·福建泉州)
When training for my first marathon, I treated myself to an expensive fitness watch that tracked my time, pace and splits.
At the end of my final training run, I threw myself down on the floor the moment I got home, only to see my watch had failed me. Twenty one miles briefly flashed on the screen before it went blank and disappeared forever. I screamed in pain. That tragic image of me crying on my living room floor pretty much sums up my relationship with exercise tracking technology.
It can be a total joy to watch your data change as you get stronger and faster, but sometimes it became a stick for punishment. I would compare my pace with other people's or criticize myself for not doing it 30 seconds faster. I never really recognized this as a problem. To me, tracking was the route to self improvement, and the point was to be better.
In the past year, “being better” has taken on a different meaning. My mental health dropped, and things like brushing my teeth became unimaginably difficult. Being better stopped meaning getting faster or stronger. It meant taking care of myself and feeling some joy. Once I started getting better, I reflected on what made me happy and what did not. So, I stopped tracking my runs and deleted all the data.
I've found I genuinely love running. I run around my local park with a silly little smile. But I do not love running quickly. I do not like races. I do not want to be pushed to be faster. I now notice how my legs feel and how my mind feels afterwards—clear and focused. I notice the smell of the wild plants and the sunshine on my face.
I am better. Sometimes I am worse. But either way I'm moving forward slowly and firmly, and that's good enough.
1. The author cried after the final training run because she ______.
A. had to stop working out
B. became physically worn out
C. lost the data on the watch
D. felt a sharp pain in the legs
2. The author used to view exercise tracking as ______.
A. a fun hobby for enjoyment
B. a strong need for recognition
C. a method of escaping punishment
D. a way of being a better runner
3. What does “being better” mean to the author now
A. Getting pleasure out of winning races.
B. Being more focused on her life goal.
C. Freeing herself from demanding tasks.
D. Improving her overall well being.
4. What can we conclude from this passage
A. Adjustment brings happiness.
B. Passion is the key to success.
C. Sports contribute to happiness.
D. Success equals self improvement.
根据第二段“At the end of my final training run…my relationship with exercise tracking technology.(在我最后一次跑步训练结束时,我一回到家就扑倒在地,结果发现我的表坏了。21英里在屏幕上短暂地一闪而过,然后一片空白,永远地消失了。我痛苦地尖叫起来。我在客厅地板上哭泣的悲惨画面基本上概括了我与运动跟踪技术的关系。)”可知,作者在最后一次训练后哭了,因为她丢失了手表上的数据。故选C。
2. D 细节理解题。根据第三段“It can be a total joy to watch your data change…and the point was to be better.(看着你的数据随着你变得越来越强、越来越快而改变,这可能是一种完全的快乐,但有时它会成为一种惩罚。我会拿自己的速度和别人比较,或者批评自己没有快30秒。我从未真正意识到这是个问题。对我来说,跟踪是自我提升的途径,关键是要变得更好。)”可知,作者曾将运动跟踪视为成为更好的跑步者的一种方式。故选D。
3. D 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“I now notice how my legs feel and how my mind feels afterwards—clear and focused. I notice the smell of the wild plants and the sunshine on my face.(现在我注意到我的腿是什么感觉,之后我的头脑是什么感觉——清晰而专注。我注意到野生植物的气味和照在脸上的阳光。)”可知,“变得更好”现在对作者来说意味着改善她的整体幸福感。故选D。
4. A 推理判断题。通读全文,并根据第四段“In the past year, ‘being better’ has taken on a different meaning…I stopped tracking my runs and deleted all the data.(在过去的一年里,‘变得更好’有了不同的含义。 故选A。

Helping Your Kids Be Interested in Sports
Being active and moving is something that is so important for us all, especially for children. __1__ However, some parents can feel shocked when they see that their child isn't interested in sports. So how can you encourage them to have a go
It is such a good idea to lead by example when you are a parent. This is true for a variety of aspects, but especially when children are unwilling to get involved in sports. __2__ So you need to be someone who is interested and active if you want any hope of them doing so too. If you lay on the couch all day, then they will just learn to do that too.
__3__ Although they can choose who they want to support, seeing your enthusiasm for a particular player or team can be just what is needed to start their journey. You could look for a team uniform store to get them a sports shirt with their name on it, for example, as well as see the team play at one of their games. __4__
If something is dull, it will be hard for children to be enthusiastic about it. This will make them resent(讨厌) it, which is not a good thing for later in life. If they show particular skill and learn to play a sport, then more practice and training can come in. __5__ When they can enjoy what they do, they will only see it as something fun to do, rather than what we as adults might see it as, such as a chore to burn calories.
Whatever sport your child chooses to play, encourage them and make it fun, and then it will be something that they will want to carry on doing as they go about the rest of their lives.
A. They won't be interested in sports if you're not.
B. Here are some other tips that you would share with them.
C. Share your enthusiasm and it will help to lighten a passion.
D. So think about ways that can get them to be active in sport.
E. How active a child is will impact their overall health and learning.
F. Apart from leading by example, you could also share your favorite team.
G. However, the main message of involving children in sports is to keep it fun.

Referred to as my hero, Jack, my brother, held significance in my life. Since he did everything before me, he always guided me and shared his experiences I would have never had otherwise. As a master of learning and sports, he always accompanied me to study and take exercise. And he even got me through difficulties in life.
My first step into high school was exciting but nervous, and I believed my extracurricular grades would be seen and valued by colleges. However, this sudden shift was difficult for me. Luckily, my brother noticed it all.
During that time, Jack was beginning his senior year and finished all the stressful subjects from junior year while I was studying for my very first math exam. Rather than just break into my room and sit down next to me, he let me decide by myself. He didn't want to bother me because having someone sit next to me and micromanage my every move made me feel uncomfortable, leading to more stress and a feeling of distrust. Knowing this, he would leave me chips and snacks by my door, so I could pick them up whenever I felt like taking a break. He was there to help whenever I needed. With his encouragement and company, I became more confident while doing my homework.
The workload was just a major struggle for me during high school. Homework from advanced classes began piling up, and I was often stressed about different projects and deadlines. Moreover, there was also a math competition that my parents valued a lot, which needed plenty of practice every single day.
Even though I liked the time my brother gave me to figure out things on my own, it was reassuring to always have somebody who was willing to help me when I was stuck on an unsolvable problem. He would help me memorize formulas, explain different terms to me, and point out traps in different questions. And with his reputation as the best math student in our school, he could make those topics and questions simple to understand.

One possible version:
I began to spend hours at my desk focusing on getting a good score in the math competition. During those times of stress, I became almost like a workaholic, trying to finish assignments no matter how long it might take or how late into the night it might go. This was because I understood that all of this practice was also valuable to my future. My brother knew it took more energy, so he persuaded me to give my brain some rest. Kicking a football with him slowly helped my doubts and worries fade, so I found it very helpful to work with a healthy schedule.
Later Jack and I went to the same college and joined the same sports club. The first college football game was coming up. We were working hard to prepare for it. Jack taught me many football skills, such as shooting, passing, dribbling and defense. When I was skilled enough at playing football, it was time to compete. The game was intense as expected and everybody tried their best. At last, Jack passed me a ball, and I succeeded in shooting it into the goal. That was the key shot and finally our team won. Bearing my hero, Jack, always in heart, I was inspired to overcome any challenge.
