Unlike many other people, who have birthmarks on their bodies, I have them on my lips and inside my mouth. I used to consider them ugly. However, my mom calls them beauty marks.
My birthmarks are caused by an genetic condition from my mom’s side of the family. This syndrome causes polyps (息肉), which are small non-cancerous growths in the intestinal tract (肠道). Every other year I have a procedure where the doctor removes them from my intestines. On the day before, I can’t eat anything solid because the doctors need my intestines to be clear so that they don’t mistake food for a polyp. I also cannot drink anything red, because they may mistake it for blood on the scan. Before the procedure they give me anesthesia (麻醉).
No matter how many times I go through the process. I always get nervous — but that’s understandable. At the end of the day I always know I’ll end up okay.
My younger cousin faces a similar challenge. She has a huge birthmark that takes up her whole arm. Her birthmark is pretty noticeable and looks like faded red splotches of paint. She’s never tried to hide her birthmark or change her appearance. It really inspires me. She has always been so much more confident about her birthmark than I am. Once, her grandmother told her mom that her birthmark looked extremely prominent and suggested that she should wear long sleeves more often. If my younger cousin’s mom had actually taken that suggestion, my younger cousin wouldn’t be as confident about her birthmark as she is.
I could have covered up my birthmarks a while ago by wearing black lipstick. But I’m glad I didn’t. Using black lipstick would be straying away from accepting facial features that make me different. I am finally accepting who I am and now I won’t tolerate people making fun of me. I don’t hesitate when someone asks me about them either. I say, “They’re beauty marks”.
24.What do we know about the author from the first two paragraphs
A.She likes to be different from others.
B.Her birthmarks can be deadly.

D.Her birthmarks cause her some trouble.

26.What can be inferred about the author’s cousin
A.She has hidden her birthmark.
B.Her confidence encourages the author.
C.She has taken her grandma’s suggestion.
D.She never judges others by their looks.
27.What can we learn from the story
A.Every coin has two sides.
B.Don’t judge a person by his appearance.
C.Learn to accept who you are.
D.Overcome the nervousness.

It was once common to regard Britain as a society with class distinction. Each class had unique characteristics.
In recent years, many writers have begun to speak the “decline of class” and “classless society” in Britain. And in modern day consumer society everyone is considered to be middle class.
But pronouncing the death of class is too early. A recent wide-ranging society of public opinion found 90 percent of people still placing themselves in particular class; 73 percent agreed that class was still a vital part of British society; and 52 percent thought there were still sharp class differences. Thus, class may not be culturally and politically obvious, yet it remains an important part of British society. Britain seems to have a love of stratification.
One unchanging aspect of a British person’s class position is accent. The words a person speaks tell her or his class. A study of British accents during 1970s found that a voice sounding like a BBC newsreader was viewed as the most attractive voice, Most people said this accent sounded “educated” and “soft”. The accents placed at the bottom in this study, on the other hand, were regional (地区的) city accents. These accents were seen as “common” and “ugly”. However, a similar study of British accents in the US turned these results upside down and placed some regional accents as the most attractive and BBC English as the least. This suggests that British attitudes towards accent have deep roots and are based on class prejudice.
In recent years, however, young upper middle-class people in London, have begun to adopt some regional accents, in order to hide their class origins. This is an indication of class becoming unnoticed. However, the 1995 pop song “Common People” puts forward the view that though a middle-class person may “want to live like common people” they can never appreciate the reality of a working-class life.
32.A recent study of public opinion shows that in modern Britain ________.
A.it is time to end class distinction
B.most people belong to middle class
C.it is easy to recognize a person’s class
D.people regard themselves socially different
33.The word stratification in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________.
A.division B.variety
C.authority D.qualification
34.The study in the US showed that BBC English was regarded as _________.
A.regional B.educated
C.unattractive D.prejudiced
35.What is the main idea of the passage
A.The middle class is expanding.
B.A person’s accent reflects his class.
C.Class is a key part of British society.
D.Each class has unique characteristics.

In a small Chinese village, a young girl named Mei lived with a deep love for painting. Her artworks, filled with lively colors, caught the beauty of her surroundings. Despite her talent, Mei often battled with self-doubt. She wondered if her skills were truly excellent or if she was just fortunate.
One day, Mei heard about a painting contest in the town called the “Sunlit Art Challenge”. Determined to prove herself and remove the doubts, Mei quickly signed up for it. The contest stirred a mix of excitement and nervousness in her. Mei spent countless hours perfecting her painting technique, pouring her heart and soul into her works.
For the contest, Mei painted a beautiful sunrise over the sea. The sun just started to rise above the horizon (地平线), its bright light beginning to shine over the ocean. The sun’s rays looked like golden light, spreading across the water and making it shine like a giant mirror. As the sun rose higher, it looked like a bright ball of fire, warming the sea and making the waves shine brightly. The sky changed colors too, from a soft blue to bright oranges, pinks and reds. It was like watching the day begin right there on her canvas (画布). Mei s painting captured the peaceful yet lively scene of the sun’s first rays touching the vast ocean, symbolizing hope.
On the day of the contest, the village square was filled with excitement. Artists from near and far displayed their works. Mei set up her painting, feeling both proud and anxious. As the judges evaluated (评估) Mei’s painting, her heart raced with nervousness. Since their expressions were hard to read, Mei felt like her doubts were right, that she wasn’t as good as she hoped.
When the host started to announce the winners, Mei listened with hope and curiosity. But sadly her name wasn’t called. Disappointment washed over her, and she forced a smile, applauding (鼓掌) the winners. After the contest, Mei felt disheartened. She thought her painting had failed to impress anyone, and she lost her motivation to lift her brush. At that time, Mr. Zhang, a villager, approached Mei.

66.Lately an English writing contest with the theme of “Foreign students in China tell stories about China” was held in our school. A lot of foreign students joined in it enthusiastically and 10 students won first, second and third prizes respectively.
This contest was greatly welcomed by all students and teachers, because it made everyone understand China and Chinese culture more deeply. This event also inspired us to use what we’ve learnt to create a much more brilliant Chinese modern culture.
Mr. Zhang told Mei that Mei’s painting was excellent and moved him. With tears in his eyes, he told her how her painting of the sunrise had profoundly touched him. Mr. Zhang explained that he had been going through a tough time and that Mei’s painting reminded him of the beauty and hope in the world. He described how the warm colors and the image of the sun rising over the ocean gave him a sense of peace and comfort. Mr. Zhang’s words made Mei realize that her works had a significant impact, reaching beyond just winning contests.
Mr. Zhang’s recognition of Mei’s works renewed Mei’s interest in painting. She started to see her art not just as a means to achieve personal recognition, but as a tool for healing and bringing joy to others. Mei began to paint with a new purpose, creating artworks that depicted scenes of hope and beauty. Her art soon became a source of warmth and inspiration in her community. Through her journey, Mei discovered the true essence of her art. It was not just about creating beautiful scenes on canvas, but about touching hearts and warming souls.
