Storie Myers is a microblading (纹绣) artist, who is in the business of helping people take control of their appearance. Now she's using her time and talents to help people who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment.
Storie first got the idea to provide free services for cancer patients when one of her clients shared her personal hair loss journey after chemotherapy (化疗). Her words touched Storie's heart. “I was just so moved by her stories that by the end of the appointment, I just could not charge her,” she recalled. She made up her mind then to make time in her schedule to help cancer patients in her salon (美容院), asking them to pay her in smiles instead of cash.
Microblading is frequently sought out by cancer survivors who experienced hair loss while receiving treatment. “Sometimes hair comes back, for certain people,” she explained. “But a lot of times it doesn't come back the way that they hope. It's amazing that microblading can help restore that.” Storie believes that everyone is beautiful with or without hair, but hair restoration can help strengthen people's confidence.
One of the first customers to receive a free microblading treatment from Storie was Gretchen Baldwin. Gretchen had 12 cycles of chemotherapy and lost all of her hair. So when a friend told her about Storie's services, she jumped at the opportunity to feel more like herself again. She admitted she was nervous to imagine the result at first, but once she looked at herself in the mirror, she was overjoyed! “I was very thankful, not only for the way it made me look, but also for not having to worry about paying for it,” said Gretchen.
Reactions like Gretchen's are what fuel Storie to keep going! “Their reactions to that are so moving,” she said. “It's so fulfilling, and that is so worth it to me, and I just have to keep going with it.”

A famous foreign company in China wanted to employ a secretary for its public relation department.
A beautiful girl with a master's degree became a winning candidate (候选人) through the competition. At its last stage she faced an oral test together with another girl who was her equal not only in good looks but also in education standard. The girl we talk about was confident in herself and successful in the oral test. It seemed that she would get the chance. The examiner told her on behalf of the company that she could come to office of the company next Monday as a new employee. At last he asked her, “Have you anything else to say?” Shocked by the unexpected question, the beautiful girl was quite at a loss, saying with hesitation, “I have to talk with my parents before I give an answer.” Surprised, the examiner said calmly, “In that case, let's wait till you are ready.”
The next day the girl came to tell that her parents agreed to her beginning work next Monday. But the examiner said regretfully, “Sorry, the job position is filled by another suitable candidate. If you think you're a pessimist and there's no hope of ever turning it around, then think again! According to mental health experts, it is actually very possible to turn into a glass half full kind of person, and here's what you can do to see things in a brighter light.
__1__ Writing down your ideas of an optimistic tomorrow will make a huge difference when it comes to your overall attitude to life. You may also want to consider a serious challenge you have in life right now, and simply sit back and think about all of the possible positive outcomes.
Choose to be optimistic. Life is all about choices. You can choose to spend the entire day reading or cleaning. You can make the call you've been thinking about for a while or you can put it off for another day. What's more, you can also choose to be positive or you can choose to simply carry on living as you are. __2__ And then carry on that way for the rest of your life.
Extend positiveness to others. Making others feel good about themselves can have lasting positive effects on your own life. Never forget to admire your family, friends, and colleagues for the good things which they are doing in their lives, even if they don't directly affect you. __3__
Adjust your negative thinking patterns. It's fine to acknowledge that bad things in life might happen at any time. __4__ Yet being overly negative can seriously ruin your chances of finding happiness in your life. Reframing your awkwardly negative thoughts into more realistic patterns may be the key to helping you maintain optimism.
Practice gratitude. Spend some time thinking about all of the things you have to be thankful for. __5__ You could even choose to keep diaries, where you can put down anything that makes you smile. If nothing else, take a moment every once in a while to stop, smile and be thankful for the positive things in life.
A.Imagine a positive future.
B.Form the habit of keeping diaries.
C.Of course, it's also necessary to praise yourself.
D.Ignoring reality isn't the most helpful method.
E.Being optimistic starts with the decision to be positive.

My neighbor's eight year old daughter used to stay in the countryside, her native place. Recently her parents brought her to town to live with them. Wild and uneducated, she would swear or use dirty words when she was displeased. Sometimes she went so far as to roll on the ground, to the shock of all people around. Her parents tried to tame her by punishing her, only to result in more violent outbursts. Finally they became thoroughly disappointed with her.
One day their next door neighbor, a retired woman teacher, gave the girl a snow white dress, which was very beautiful. It immediately caught the girl's eyes and made them shine brightly.
The girl put on the dress and became quite another person. She no longer abused or hit others, even less rolled on the floor. She knew running wild was beneath her in such a beautiful dress. Since then the girl has been gentle, neat, and lovely.
The story set me thinking a lot. Perhaps everyone has a beautiful dress hidden somewhere in his or her heart. Only some people are not aware of it, forget it or give it up. Beauty is a powerful force or weapon—that's something unrealized by many of us. It can arouse fine qualities that humans are born with but have so far hidden somewhere. It has a soul shaking influence that is indeed unmatched.

Storie Myers is a microblading (纹绣) artist, who is in the business of helping people take control of their appearance. Now she's using her time and talents to help people who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment.
温馨提示:丰富的语料是写作的源泉,与其单独背那些枯燥的热词佳句,不如在阅读语境中轻松记忆语篇题中的黑体(除标题和设题外)语句,日积月累,悄然完成迁移,提升写作。

A famous foreign company in China wanted to employ a secretary for its public relation department.
A beautiful girl with a master’s degree became a winning candidate (候选人) through the competition. At last he asked her,
“Have you anything else to say?” Shocked by the unexpected question, the beautiful girl was quite at a loss, saying with hesitation, “I have to talk with my parents before I give an answer.” Surprised, the examiner said calmly, “In that case, let’s wait till you are ready.”
