Ernest Miller Hemingway was an American author and journalist. His unique writing style greatly influenced 20th-century fiction, as did his life of adventure and public image. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. Many of his works are classics of American literature. He published seven novels, six short story collections, and two non-fiction works during his lifetime; a further three novels, four collections of short stories, and three non-fiction works were published posthumously.
Hemingway was born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois. After leaving high school he worked for a few months as a reporter for The Kansas City Star, before leaving for the Italian front to become an ambulance driver during World War Ⅰ, which became the basis for his novel A Farewell to Arms.
In 1922 Hemingway married Hadley Richardson, the first of his four wives, and the couple moved to Paris, where he worked as a foreign correspondent. During his time there he met and was influenced by modernist writers and artists of the 1920s expatriate (侨居海外的) community known as the “Lost Generation”. His first novel, The Sun Also Rises, was published in 1926.
After divorcing Hadley Richardson in 1927, Hemingway married Pauline Pfeiffer; they divorced following Hemingway's return from covering the Spanish Civil War, after which he wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls. Martha Gellhorn became his third wife in 1940, but he left her for Mary Welsh after World War Ⅱ.
Shortly after the publication of The Old Man and the Sea in 1952, Hemingway went on safari to Africa, where he was almost killed in a plane crash that left him in pain or ill-health for much of the rest of his life.
Hemingway had permanent residences in Key West, Florida, and Cuba during the 1930s and 1940s, but in 1959 he moved from Cuba to Ketchum, Idaho, where he committed suicide in the summer of 1961.

Now I live in Paris. Actually, I don't mind the food or the people, but I do care about the land that has an extraordinarily lack of characteristics of hiking. I enjoy being outdoors and hiking, but Paris's natural resources don't hold much potential for my bent. So when my dad asked if I wanted to go hiking with him, I was overjoyed. __1__ It turned out that I was too optimistic.
We started our main hike up Flattop Mountain. As we hiked, it was much more challenging than I expected. __2__ The path was winding and we saw mountains towering over the green valleys and cliffs that seemed endless. What amazed me most was that thick clouds enveloped the mountainsides. __3__
I stared up at the top to see how much farther we had to go and I began to worry that I wouldn't finish it. __4__ It made me doubtful about my persistence (坚持). But when we looked back at the path that faded in the distance, I was filled with fulfillment with seeing how much we had done.
As I was hiking, I started to reflect on how hiking was similar to other aspects of my life. __5__ It reminded me of my struggles in my classes and the difficulties I had to overcome. I realized that the process of learning isn't always the most fun, but the fulfillment after seeing how much I had finished just increases the thirst for knowledge, causing me to long for more learning. Looking down at the mountain I was content but never fully satisfied. Having considered a lot, I was determined to pursue the summit (山顶).

Hello, everyone. It's nice to speak about the female scientist—Marie Curie.
Madame Curie, a French physics professor, was born in Poland. When she was young, she became interested in physics. Not admitted to universities in Poland, she was determined to go to Sorbonne University and study there. Later, she married Pierre Curie, a very bright scientist, with whom she worked together on the research into radioactive matter. She received the Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry, becoming the first scientist in the world to win two Nobel Prizes.
It was Marie Curie that has made contributions to the world and set a good example for us. It's necessary for us to honor her.

Thanks for listening!
