Today, I'll talk about a great artist, Leonardo da Vinci. He was born in 1452 in the town of Vinci, near Florence, Italy. At 15, Leonardo went to work with a famous artist. At the age of 20, he was already a master painter. Although da Vinci was a great painter, he never gave up his interest in other subjects. For example, he drew a flying machine 400 years before the airplane was invented. In all, da Vinci designed more than 1,000 inventions. As a matter of fact, da Vinci started many projects that he never finished. He was always more interested in planning projects than doing them. He often quickly lost interest in one project and couldn't wait to start another. So he completed very few paintings. Da Vinci took four years to paint the Mona Lisa. Unfortunately, the man who ordered the painting didn't like it and refused to pay him. However, ten years later, da Vinci sold it to the King of France. The King hung it in the Louvre Palace in Paris. Today the Mona Lisa still hangs in the Louvre, which is now a museum.

The term “quiet quitting” went viral last year, describing people who stay in their jobs but mentally take a step back, for example, working the bare minimum and not making their job the center of their lives. Now, there is a new workplace trend on the horizon, called “quiet hiring”.
Quiet hiring is a strategy used to fill the critical gaps in a company without hiring new employees. One company has a limited amount of talent and needs to make a call about where it's going to have the best impact. This year it may need to add five more data scientists to its team to meet the strategic goals. As a solution, it may move five employees from another department only for a short time, like data analysts in the human resources and marketing department, into the five open data scientist roles.
In this case, the boss is saying, “We're going to intentionally deprioritize support for HR and marketing for the next six months so that we can increase the productivity of our data science team, and we are saying this sound and clearly. Everyone knows this.” The important distinction with quiet hiring is that a company is openly communicating with employees about its priorities and moving employees to areas that serve those priorities, instead of just loading employees with more work or simply hiring more people.
While being assigned to a new role may seem scary, quiet hiring should be beneficial to employees. If you were asked to take on additional responsibilities, it would indicate your value. Meantime you might say, “If it's not possible to increase my payment, can we make it so that I can work from home five days a week, reducing my commute (通勤) costs Or, could I work flexible hours, making it easier for me to live the rest of my life?” An individual conversation may be ineffective. If you're part of a department or team being asked to switch roles, employ that power and approach human resources as a group.

As a first-aid responder, you never know what type of situation you might walk into, or who you'll meet along the way. That's definitely been the case for Jeffrey Lanenberg, a 51 year old paramedic (急救医务人员) since 1984.
Ten years into the job, Lanenberg received a call that reported that a man in his early 30s had fallen down in the Mall of America. When Lanenberg and his partner arrived at the scene, they found the young male face down on the ground. He had gone unconscious, making weak attempts to breathe. His wife stood beside him holding their small son in horror. They quickly rushed to defibrillate (除颤) and calm the man to keep him under control. After Lanenberg dropped the patient off at the neighboring hospital, he thought about the man and his family for a long time.
Lanenberg thought he had experienced everything under the sun until one random visit to Office Max three years ago, where he met a man repeatedly walk back and forth while staring at him. As it turned out, the man was the patient he had saved 20 years earlier.
“You gave me 20 years more than I ever thought I'd have,” the man said. He thanked Lanenberg repeatedly and told him he had someone he wanted him to meet. He stepped around the corner and reappeared with a 20 something year old man. Lanenberg instantly knew that it was the son he had seen standing by his mother all those years ago.
“That day changed my life,” Lanenberg said. “Before that, everything was about work ... When I talk to my beginner training class, I tell them you never know the impact you can have on someone's life.”

In 2018, a major new exhibition opened at New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The show brought together more than a hundred works by a single Brazilian artist: Tarsila do Amaral. Although widely celebrated in her native country, the artist was relatively unknown outside Brazil. So who was Tarsila
Born in 1886, Tarsila do Amaral is considered the mother of modern art in Brazil. She first developed a love for art after her parents sent her to study in Spain. She returned to Europe a few years later, and settled in Paris. Several artists there, including Picasso, were beginning to experiment with new forms—less realistic and more abstract. The new approaches continued to influence Tarsila after she returned to Brazil.
Approaches to art in Brazil at that time were relatively conservative (保守的). Traditional European styles dominated, with works mainly featuring natural, religious, or historical scenes in soft colors. Tarsila decided to take a different direction: “I want to be the painter of my country,” she wrote. Her images began to reflect Brazil's diverse identity—a mix of native, African, and European peoples. She used strong, vivid colors to paint real life scenes of the nation's farmers, countryside, and wildlife. This had never been done before in Brazilian art.
One of Tarsila's most famous works is Abaporu (1928), which means “Man Who Eats People.” The painting has a playful quality, but its look and feel are distinctly Brazilian. The work later inspired a Brazilian art movement called antropofagia. Brazilian artists began to take in styles from other cultures and mix them with local influences. The result was something uniquely Brazilian.
Tarsila do Amaral died in Sao Paulo in 1973, aged 86. But her artwork and legacy live on in her native Brazil. “For Brazilians, her recognition is off__the__charts,” says James Rondeau, director of the Art Institute of Chicago. “She is the Picasso of Brazil.” Now, with the MoMA exhibition, Tarsila's art is being appreciated by a new audience of admirers around the world.

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Why Boundaries at Work Are Essential
What is a boundary, you ask A boundary is a limit defining you in relation to someone or something. __36__ If you have informed someone that this is your office space, your desk, or your chair, you have attempted to set physical boundaries.
Letting co workers know you are not comfortable shaking their hands or hugging them at a holiday party is another example of setting a physical boundary. It is often easier to understand a physical boundary. Emotional or mental boundaries may be subtler (更微妙的). __37__
Emotional boundaries are related to our feelings and how something or someone's behavior affects us. For example, if a boss treats you disrespectfully by yelling at you or a colleague frequently interrupts you in meetings, you are likely to feel hurt, embarrassed, and perhaps angry. Understandably, by having a courageous conversation with both your boss and co worker about their behavior, the impact it has on you, and your expectations regarding future behavior, you are setting healthy emotional boundaries for yourself at work.
Sometimes we set a boundary that is a combination of both a physical and emotional one. __38__ One example of this is being repeatedly asked to work late during the week/weekends or while on vacation. Another example is being required to see too many clients or patients to the point we feel tired at the end of the day and exhausted by Friday. Often, the above workplace demands lead to increased stress and a high potential for burnout (倦怠) over time.
Mental boundaries are related to our beliefs, values, cultural norms, ethics (道德), and standards. For example, you value a workplace culture that treats employees and clients with respect and dignity and acts ethically. After six months, you realize that company leaders are repeatedly behaving in ways not consistent with this. __39__ Over time, this may lead to significant stress and physical symptoms within.
__40__ Boundaries serve many functions. They help protect us, clarify our responsibility, preserve our physical and emotional energy, and live our values and standards. Learning the skill of boundary setting helps empower us to prioritize our values and well being and better manage our stress. Identifying, setting, and maintaining boundaries are skills—valuable skills that, unfortunately, we are often not taught in school or the workplace.
A.Why are boundaries important
B.However, they are equally, if not more, important.
C.Therefore, we need to tell the difference between them.
D.Setting a boundary in the above example may be quite helpful.
E.Boundaries can be physical, mental, emotional, tangible, or intangible.
F.Your values and ethical standards don't match with your company's, which likely will lead to internal conflict.
G.Such boundaries often involve being asked to do more than we feel capable of for an extended period of time.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My mother was a teacher and she would tell me stories about my grandparents. When Grandma welcomed two kids, my mom and my uncle, she decided to look for a brave business journey in coffee industry where no women held any position at that time. She didn't like the fact that Grandpa had to work for some other companies to make a living. Instead, she hoped that they would have their own business. So she moved away from where Grandpa used to live and bought a piece of land with two kids to help to start her own coffee farm.
When my mom and uncle grew up and went to school in the nearby village, my grandma, a brave woman, worked endlessly on the land planting one coffee plant after another. By the time my mom and uncle were at junior school, she had planted about 12 acres of coffee plants all alone. The business journey was very difficult. Grandpa returned home only on Saturdays and Sundays. For ten years, Grandma hardly slept well at night, guarding her land, resources and children. As the farm expanded, she had too much to do.
One Saturday morning, when Grandpa went back home, Grandma asked him, “Can you help me run the farm, dear?” After much thought, Grandpa replied. “Yes. Let's work together to face the future.” Finally, he gave up his job and came to support Grandma both physically and emotionally.
Then Grandma realized that the farm was too large to rely on the labor of family members alone. More people were needed to keep the farm going. When my mom and uncle were at high school, Grandma thought that the village education wasn't good enough for her kids, and later she sent them off to a town to study with their cousins.
Meanwhile, Grandma decided to ask other family members to work for the farm. Grandpa often drove his truck to pick them up in the early morning and drop them at dusk. But the job of transporting the workers was really hard. So Grandpa and Grandma wanted to think of a way to solve the problem.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
One day, my grandma offered to build houses for the workers. As the workers' children grew up, Grandma began to worry about their education.
One day, my grandma offered to build houses for the workers. My grandpa couldn't agree with it more. The houses were built soon, where the workers could live in peace. More and more workers were coming, some even with their whole families. The workers lived and worked happily and actively contributed to the farm in return for my grandpa and grandma. My grandma was very concerned about the life of the workers and tried her best to provide them with a comfortable working and living environment. The coffee farm was getting better and better.
As the workers' children grew up, Grandma began to worry about their education. Providing education for the children was a big challenge because there were no schools around the farm. This time, Grandpa thought of a good idea and said. “Why not set up a primary school for the children?” Grandma nodded cheerfully. After several years of efforts, the school came into being. The school was managed by my uncle and professional teachers were hired, including my mother. Gradually, as the population grew, the coffee farm run by my grandparents grew into a small town. They were all living happily.

18.When did Leonardo da Vinci become a master painter
A.In 1452. B.In 1467.
C.In 1472.
19.Why did Leonardo da Vinci finish very few paintings
A.He lost interest in painting.
B.He often gave up his paintings halfway.
C.He didn't put his whole heart into painting.

The term “quiet quitting” went viral last year, describing people who stay in their jobs but mentally take a step back, for example, working the bare minimum and not making their job the center of their lives. Now, there is a new workplace trend on the horizon, called “ quiet hiring”.
In this case, the boss is saying, “ We're going to intentionally deprioritize support for HR and marketing for the next six months so that we can increase the productivity of our data science team, and we are saying this sound and clearly.

“ You gave me 20 years more than I ever thought I'd have,” the man said.

“For Brazilians, her recognition is off__the__charts,”says James Rondeau, director of the Art Institute of Chicago.

“Yes. Let’s work together to face the future.” Finally, he gave up his job and came to support Grandma both physically and emotionally.
Then Grandma realized that the farm was too large to rely on the labor of family members alone. More people were needed to keep the farm going. When my mom and uncle were at high school, Grandma thought that the village education wasn’t good enough for her kids, and later she sent them off to a town to study with their cousins.
Meanwhile, Grandma decided to ask other family members to work for the farm. Grandpa often drove his truck to pick them up in the early morning and drop them at dusk. But the job of transporting the workers was really hard. So Grandpa and Grandma wanted to think of a way to solve the problem.
