The little match girl
On Christmas Eve, it was snowing fast with freezing wind blowing heavily. With windows and doors closed and lights on, people sat around with various delicious food on the dinner table.
A poor little girl with head and feet bare, was still wandering along the streets. With many matches to sell, she came out early. The snow-flakes fell on her long, fair hair and she sat down, drawing her little feet close under her. Motionless, she sat there with the matches in her lap. With not a single match sold, she didn't dare to go home---her father would beat her.
