Are you dreaming of overcoming Mount Kilimanjaro, but not sure which route to take Here's an overview of four Kilimanjaro routes for you.
Marangu Route
The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca Cola Route”, is distinguished by its cottage accommodations and is a popular choice for climbers aiming to reach the top of Kilimanjaro.
Providing a more comfortable option compared to camping, these simple cottages offer basic facilities and can be a welcoming sight after a day of challenging hiking.
Machame Route
The Machame Route, often referred to as the “Whiskey Route”, is famous for its splendid landscapes and challenging summit (顶峰) night that tests climbers' determination and tolerance.
The night before the summit push, is a laborious test, characterized by sharp, rocky terrain (地形) and freezing temperatures, where climbers rely on their mental strength and physical preparedness to overcome the final barriers to Uhuru Peak.
Lemosho Route
The Lemosho Route offers breathtaking scenic views and owns one of the highest summit success rates among the Kilimanjaro routes, making it a favorite among climbers.
What sets the Lemosho Route apart is its gradual ascent (上升) profile, allowing climbers to accustom effectively and increase their chances of reaching the summit successfully.
Rongai Route
The Rongai Route provides a quiet hiking experience, allowing climbers to adapt gradually while impressing themselves with the untouched wilderness of Kilimanjaro's northern side.
Adaptation becomes more manageable due to the route's gentle ascent, allowing climbers to adjust to the increasing height comfortably. The unique advantage of this path is its relatively lower traffic, providing a peaceful experience in harmony with nature's patterns.

In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift. On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I've taken. To me, the room represents how I've found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.

5.Why did the author stop taking photos according to paragraph 2
A.He was busy with his work.
B.He was struck by sudden sorrow.
C.He experienced increasing pressure.
D.He attempted to behave like an adult.
根据第二段“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner.(这些年来不断增长的压力已经把相机从我的枕头边推到了角落的盒子里。)”
6.What did the author get from picking up his hobby
A.Better skills of observation.
B.New journeys in the wild.
C.Different styles of photography.
D.More enjoyment in the daily routine.
根据最后一段“To me, the room represents how I've found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.(对我而言,这个房间代表着我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接那个被我搁置的年轻自我,通过在我的生活中为快乐腾出空间,通过创造一个充满乐趣的机会的环境。)”
7.What can be a suitable title for the text

C.Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera

Public health data signals a genuine crisis in adolescent mental health: rising rates of anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. But as we worry about teens who are struggling, we can't ignore another mounting effect—the burdens that are shouldered by their friends and peers in an “always on” world.
We have studied teens and tech for over a decade.Their networks are ever expanding, in no small part because there's a sense that being nice means accepting fellow requests from acquaintances and friends of friends. And it's not just staying connected—it's keeping up with what others post, too.
Social media platforms thus make it technically possible to maintain more relationships than ever before. The result is an overwhelming wave of social information. It's especially intense for adolescents whose sensitivities drive them to care deeply about what their peers are doing and thinking.
Significant stress comes with trying to be a “good friend” in the age of social media.Friendship requires both public and behind the scenes support.Even before a social media post is made public, close friends can be pulled into photo selection, editing, and final examination.Besides, they need to respond in the right way and in the right amount of time, which differs from one relationship to another.Replying too quickly can be seen as over eager, especially when the friendship is new or not close. But when it's a close friend, too long a lag(延迟) can be hurtful.
Technologies have transformed how friendships play out.Social media increases the burdens that come along with being a good friend.Too often, these dynamics hit teens hard in ways that are ignored by adults. And that is what should be changed with the help of parents, schools and other parts of society.
8.What makes teenagers' networks continue to expand
A.The pressure to be nice.
B.The requests of their parents.
C.The need to meet more people.
D.The burden of living independently.
根据第二段中的“Their networks...because there's a sense that being nice means accepting fellow requests from acquaintances and friends of friends.” 故选A。
9.What does the author think of being a good friend in the age of social media
A.Exciting. B.Challenging.
C.Time saving. D.Risk taking.
文章第四段第一句“Significant stress comes with trying to be a ‘good friend’in the age of social media.”
10.What should be changed according to the last paragraph
A.The qualities of being a teen friend.
B.The conflicts between schools and parents.
C.The relations between parents and their teens.
D.The influences of social media on teen friendship.
最后一段中的“that is what should be changed”中的that指的是“Technologies have transformed how friendships play out.Social media increases the burdens that come along with being a good friend.”,即技术彻底改变了友谊的出现方式,社交媒体增加了成为好朋友带来的负担。
11.What is the text mainly about
A.Why more teens are addicted to social media.
B.How teens nowadays gain long standing friendships.
C.How social media has made teen friendships more stressful.
D.What makes teens become more sensitive to their peers' needs.

Dear Robert,
Knowing that you're going to teach us fencing as an optional course, I feel delighted. But I still think it's not a suitable decision. As we all know, fencing is not widely popular with students.Even worse, fencing has high requirements on facilities that we hardly meet at present. Therefore, I strongly recommend football or tennis as your optional course since both are also your strengths.Or in order to satisfy our needs, you'd better conduct a survey on what kind of sports we students prefer to learn before your final decision.
Hope my feedback can give you a hand.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
