We can do many interesting chemical tests in our class. Today, we will use CO to blow up a balloon! Mixing baking soda (小苏打) with vinegar (醋) together can give off the CO .
What you’ll need(1) A balloon (2) About 40 ml of water (3) A soft drink bottle (4) Vinegar (5) A teaspoon of baking soda
Instructions●Before you begin, make sure that you pull the balloon long to make it as easy as possible to blow up. ●Put the 40 ml of water into the soft drink bottle. ●Add the baking soda and mix it with water. ●Put the vinegar in and quickly put the balloon over the mouth of the bottle. What’s happening If all goes well, then the balloon should become bigger and bigger! Adding the vinegar to the baking soda creates a chemical effect. The baking soda is a base (碱), while the vinegar is an acid (酸). When the two are mixed, they’ll create CO . The gas rises up and runs away through the soft drink bottle. Bees are amazing animals that not only make delicious honey but also help humans in many ways in our world. Do you know that there are around 20,000 kinds of bees worldwide 15 Without bees, we wouldn’t have any food! When bees fly around, they carry pollen from one plant to another, helping the new plants to grow. 16 They can also help fruits and vegetables grow.
17 They’re losing their living places because the places they live are disappearing. Also, they are not feeling well because of chemicals on plants, and the changing weather is making life harder for them.
As we know, bees live in houses that we call hives (蜂巢) . There are three kinds of bees, worker bees, drones (雄蜂) , and queen bees. 18 Drones, on the other hand, don’t work. Before winter arrives, drones are either killed or driven away from the hive. The queen bee is the most important, being the largest andthe only one that can lay eggs in the hive.
19 The queen bee lays lots of eggs, up to 800,000 in her life. But with the help of these clever robot bees, she can lay even more eggs, making sure a larger number of bees do their important jobs.

Matt Green decides to walk every street in all five boroughs (行政区) of New York City. The journey is around 8,000 miles and is expected to take him over two years to complete.
In 2010, the 31-year-old Matt Green walked across the United States from Rockaway Beach, Queens to Rockaway Beach, Ore. The journey took five months, during which he walked about 20 miles a day. The plan then took a break from the work force. So Mr. Green spent the next year and a half working small jobs while he chose where to walk next. Finally, at noon on December 31, he started from Staten Island with a new idea in his mind: to walk every street in every borough of New York City.
New York is a city of walkers. Many people have walked every street in Manhattan. The historian John McNamara, who died in 2004, walked every street in the Bronx. But Mr. Green believes he is the first to try for every block in all five boroughs—a journey of about 8,000 miles. Now satellites are helping to forecast (预报) the weather. They are in space, and they can reach any part of the world. The satellites take pictures of the atmosphere (大气), because this is where the weather forms. They send these pictures to the weather stations. So meteorologists can see the weather of any part of the world. From the pictures, the meteorologists can often say how the weather will change.
Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries receive satellite pictures. When they receive new pictures, the meteorologists compare them with earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the last few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, the meteorologists can say this.
So the weather satellites are a great help to the meteorologists. Before satellites were invented, the meteorologists could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours. Now they can make good forecasts for three or five days. Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead.
25.Why can the meteorologists tell us how the weather will change
A.Because they are able to guess the weather.
B.Because they study the pictures sent by satellites.
C.Because they observe the clouds in the sky.
D.Because they study the change of the wind.
26.The satellites can ________.
A.often say how the weather will change
B.forecast the weather for 24 or 48 hours

Last summer, I took a trip to Hong Kong. Usually, I would spend months preparing (准备) for my trips, but this time, I just packed my bags and started off. I felt a little nervous but excited to explore (探寻) Hong Kong.
At first, I didn’t feel anything special. Hong Kong looked just like any other big city, with tall buildings, busy streets and lots of cars. It made me think of my home city, Mumbai. But later, I found many special things about it. Here are some of my favorite moments from this trip.

One day, after climbing a hill in Cheung Chau, I was out of breath (气喘吁吁). But guess what At the top, I found a Chinese-style pavilion (中式亭子). I sat there for a long time. Everything around me was so beautiful that I didn’t want to leave.

Do you want to be a better learner Here are three good learning habits. They can help you study effectively (有效地) and save you lots of time.
First, make a study plan. Decide when you will do your homework, review (复习) what you learnt and get ready for new lessons. For example, you can do your maths homework right away after school, then spend some time going over the English words you learnt today. A good study plan can help you use your time wisely and keep your study organised.
Second, take notes in class. For example, when the teacher is talking, write down the important things. Use pens in different colours to mark the key points. This way, you can quickly find what you need later.
Third, review regularly. Don’t wait until the last minute to start studying. Review what you have learnt every few days. Spend just 15 minutes each time reviewing your notes and textbooks. Regular review helps you remember better.
So start developing these learning habits from now on, and you’ll find learning easier and more interesting!

Don’t let your kids drag their feet (拖拖拉拉) over doing housework. Help them to make the boring housework enjoyable.
Work as a team. A simple and great way to make cleaning fun is to do it together. Play some beautiful music while you are doing housework. Then you won’t feel bored.
Get lucky. If your kids like surprises, write housework on ice cream and have each kid pick one. Tell them they can change their picks if each of them agrees. In this way, they will have a feeling of making a choice.
Make it playtime. Turn “kitchen time” into a party. Let one child be a cook and another be a DJ. The cook chooses to help make dinner. The DJ chooses the music to play. Everyone can dance around the kitchen while preparing dinner or cleaning up the kitchen later.
Find more difficult housework. One of my friends was trying to get her kids to help out around the house, and someone advised her to give the kids some things like candies or toys as rewards. The advice worked like magic. However, rewards usually don’t work for long because kids will be bored with doing the same housework all the time. At this time, give them some difficult housework. If they can already help clean the cage (笼子) of the pet well, make it harder by having them clean the cage all by themselves. Then, ask them to clean it faster.

You want someone to know how much you love him or her, but sometimes it’s not that easy to say those three little words, even to the closest people like your parents. Then what should we do to show our love for someone in a good way 48
Asking your loved one for advice shows that you care about him or her. It shows that you know the importance of making decisions together, especially if a decision makes a difference to the two of you. 49
Sometimes love is about everyday things. Love is those little things you do for them, which makes them happy. So try doing things like opening a door for your loved ones, bringing them a cup of coffee or giving them a hand when necessary. 50
If you truly love someone, you’ll want him or her to be the best. Don’t hold the ones you love back for your own selfish reasons. They say love is about compromise (妥协), but nobody should give up their dreams. 51
To really show some people you love them, be there with them through thick and thin. Share their joy and their pain (苦恼). Celebrate with them when you get what you want through hard work or help them through hard times. 52
Pick somewhere in nature that’s special to you—your childhood home or your favorite place to relax and think. Then get a thing from that place and give it to your loved ones. Give them a seashell, a pretty stone, a bird feather or whatever small, cute things you can find. Tell them that you saw it and thought of them at once. They will feel special and closer to you as a result.
A.Be there with them
B.Ask for their advice
C.Help them be the best

I grew up in the countryside. It helped me learn more practical skills (技能) than others who grew up in cities. I learned to cook at around 10 years old. The first skill I had was making dumplings. Later, I cooked fried dishes. I fell in love with cooking. It’s a good way to relax myself. Now working from home, I cook every meal. It saves money and I don’t have to wait for delivery (递送) drivers to feed me.
Besides cooking, I did a lot of farm work in my childhood. I got to know how to plant vegetables. Though it was hard work, the experience taught me things that others at my age still don’t know. Today, it is a big problem for young people to get fine jobs after they leave universities. There are different kinds of jobs in the world. But how should young people choose the right one That often worries them.
“Finding a job” is not the same as “choosing a job”. Many young people can’t get right jobs. Here are a few steps to help you think about jobs which you might enjoy doing after you leave school or university.
First, it is important to know what kind of person you are, what special qualities (特质) you have and what you are interested in. There is a difference between an interest and a skill. If you like art and enjoy looking at pictures, that is an interest. But if you can draw a horse and it looks like a horse not a big dog, that is a skill.
Then ask yourself a question, “Of the following three skills—skill with people, skill with information and skill with things, which is my best skill ”
After finding out your best skill, the next step is to study carefully. To find out as many different kinds of jobs as possible, go to the library and read books, magazines and newspapers for information. Ask your friends what they think of the work they do.
The last step is to trust your own ideas and your own thinking. It is your own life. Just find the job you really enjoy doing.
