Who does the housework at home It’s an interesting but important question. Dave has his own idea and answer. He says, “When I was a child, my mother believed in the importance of the housework. My sister Dee and I cleaned up the kitchen every night after dinner. Our parents usually planned some weekly tasks for us, such as sweeping and tidying. We must finish them on Saturdays. They expected us to make our beds and keep our bedrooms clean every week. Mum also found some seasonal (季节的) chores to give us, such as cutting grass, sweeping leaves, cleaning the room and so on.”
In fact, Dave didn’t agree with his mother. He always complained (抱怨)about the housework, but he did it. He still helps with housework now. His wife, Merry is very grateful to Dave’s mum. She has said to friends many times, “I’m lucky that Dave’s mum made him work around the house.”
Does that make Dave different I don’t think so. One new report shows that men’s work in the home is three times as much as that of forty years ago.
“Who does the housework ” is still a big question in many families today. In recent years, reports have shown wives usually do much more housework than husbands. A 2021 report showed 62 percent of Americans thought of sharing housework as the important point of the successful family. However, there were only 47 percent of people who had the same idea in 1990. In a family, sharing housework is before money and children. Also, sharing housework sets an example for the children.
1.What did Dave’s mother believe in when he was a child (不超过5个词)
2.How often did Dave sweep and tidy (不超过5个词)
3.Who does the housework in your home Why (不超过20个词)
Why should we set goals Setting goals is really important because it helps us shape our lives and guides us towards what we want. Goals are like a map, showing us the way to success. They turn our lives from something happening to us into something we control.
Successful people know what they want in life and set a goal to make it happen. The goal can tell them where to go and how to get there. With the goal, it’s easier to face the challenges in life because people know where to go. Imagine two drivers on a trip. The wise driver knows exactly where he is going. He can drive straight there and make right decisions along the way. The stupid driver doesn’t know where to go. He starts from the same place but drives around aimlessly. Which driver would you like to be
People who win in life understand the power of setting goals and working towards them. They know that success isn’t just good luck. It comes from hard work and clear goals. People who aren’t successful often let go of their lives.
Setting goals isn’t as hard as it sounds. The key is to find out what’s important to us. Studies show that writing down our goals makes them much nearer to reach. Writing down our goals often helps us remember them and gives us courage to work towards our goals.
4.Why are goals like a map (不超过10个词)
5.Which driver has no clear goal (不超过5个词)
6.What do unsuccessful people often do (不超过10个词)

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. 3 Even though we worked so hard, we could get only a little fruit because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals (灌溉渠) and other projects began to be built in my village. “Who are they ” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Later, my parents took me to another city. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother. One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard, so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh apples and pears. She told us that after the water conservation project (水利工程) was finished, a policy (政策) was made to encourage more people to improve the fruit production (产量) with clean water in the river.
4 Thank those good men for their help to develop the countryside. Nowadays, people work hard to live in a big city. However, we should not forget our hometowns where we are from.

One of my least favourite chores is cleaning my bedroom, but I have to do it. If my bedroom is untidy, I find it hard to relax and impossible to do any work! My mum always says, “A tidy home means a tidy mind.” I think this is true. If everything is a mess, you just can’t think clearly.
Studies show that people are usually more successful if they work, study, or live in a clean and tidy environment. A study shows that many children with bad behavior (行为) come from messy houses. Children who grow up in dirty houses would probably be unhealthy and they fall sick more often too. This is why people with tidier homes are often healthier and more successful. My mum is a good example of this. She makes sure our home is always very clean and comfortable, so my sister and I hardly ever fall sick. Everyone loves her and she is very successful in her job at a bank.
I am not a naturally tidy person. I sometimes throw my clothes on the floor because I am too tired to put them away, and I often leave rubbish on my desk. It is not easy to keep things clean all the time, but I am trying to develop the habit of tidying up every day. Maybe one day I will be as tidy and successful as my mum! That’s my wish too.

Goldfish are good pets. They are funny to watch. But they need the right home. They are not happy if they are living in a bowl. A tank is bigger. It can hold more water and it has more room for goldfish to swim. So a tank is a good place for goldfish. Here are some ways to keep goldfish in a tank.
Put a tank at home. Do not put it near the window. It could get too warm from the sun.
Fill the tank. Put some water in the tank. Wait a few days, check the water and make sure the water is clean. Then put some rocks and plants on the tank bottom for fish to hide among them.
Get your fish. Bring it home in a bag. The bag must be full of water. Let the bag float in the tank. Wait half an hour. Then open the bag. Let the fish swim out.
Look after the goldfish. First put a cover on the tank. It can keep fish safe. With a cover, nothing can fall into the tank and fish cannot jump out. Do not feed your fish too much. A fish should eat most of its food right away.

Although Zhong Ziqi was only a woodcutter (伐木者), he was able to understand the feelings and meanings expressed through Yu Boya’s music. Mary is 14 years old. One day, her parents went on a trip, so she was alone at home. At first, she was happy because her parents were not in. She could do everything that she liked. But when it was six o’clock in the afternoon, she felt hungry. “Oh, it’s time to have dinner. Where can I get my food ”, she said to herself. Later, she found some meat and vegetables in the fridge (冰箱), but she didn’t know how to cook them. At last, she could only go to a restaurant to eat.

Plants: more than we thought
Plants are amazing. In the past, there were some ideas that plants had feelings and could act like people. But now, new studies show that plants are unusual in their own ways.
Protecting (保护) themselves
Plants protect themselves. For example, when worms eat tomato plants, the plants make their leaves taste bad with a special juice. This can even make the worms eat each other. Corn (玉米) plants can know what worms leave behind and then call a bee to catch the worms.
Plant communication
Plants can talk to each other. They use special air. There are small openings on plants that look like little fish mouths. When a plant has trouble, like being eaten or hit by wind, it sends a “call”. Other plants can get this “call” and get ready to stay safe.
Plant memory
Plants may have memory. Many fruit trees need to “remember” the cold days in winter to blossom (开花) in spring. They remember cold and warm days to avoid (避免) flowering too early in winter.
