Yes! There is a museum for that!
Museums have changed. We’ll always have the Met in New York and the Louvre in Paris, but nowadays you’ll find a museum for absolutely everything and everyone.
Museum of Bad Art
Boston, Massachusetts
The mission of Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) is to collect, exhibit and celebrate art that will be shown in no other place. Highlights include Lucy in the Field with Flowers, a painting found in 1993 resting against a rubbish can, waiting for rubbish collection. This painting was the first of the MOBA collection.
Museum of Motherhood
St. Petersburg, Florida
This museum is the first of its kind — a museum and educational center covering the art, science and history of mothers. “I watched a couple of kids try on the pregnancy vests (孕妇马甲) and then walk unsteadily (不稳定地) around,” says museum founder Martha Joy Rose. “Within five minutes, they begged to take them off.”
National Comedy Center
Jamestown, New York
Based in Lucille Ball’s hometown, this museum features exhibits such as Jerry Seinfeld’s puffy (蓬松的) shirt and Joan Rivers’ card list of 65,000 jokes. Before entering, visitors create their “sense of humor file” by choosing what they find funny on a digital device they wear on a wrist so that the comedy content is tailored based on their personal taste.
International Tennis Hall of Fame
Newport, Rhode Island
It was built in 1881 on the site of the first United States National Lawn Tennis Championships. A highlight is a Kings Court for “court tennis” dating back to 1538. It’s not so much a tennis court but an unbalanced rectangular (长方形的) room with surprising slopes (斜坡) and angles. In this ancient game, the ball can jump off the walls and windows and still be in play. Despite the high cost of about $3 million to make, visitors to the museum can rent it and play.
21. What is special about the first exhibit of MOBA
A. It is a painting about motherhood.
B. It is a painting describing rubbish.
C. It was abandoned before collected.
D. It was donated by a famous painter.
22. Where can you experience a personalized comedy
A. Jamestown, New York. B. St. Petersburg, Florida.
C. Newport, Rhode Island. D. Boston, Massachusetts.
23. What do the four museums have in common
A. They reveal modern life. B. They offer something funny.
C. They exhibit ancient treasures. D. They show something unusual.

At the ninth Mobile Application Innovation Contest held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, in November, a sign language learning app named ArtfulSign (Miaoshou in Chinese) stood out as the top winner. The app is developed by three hearing-damaged students, Zhao Yuan, Wang Yueran, and Tan Chenglong from Beijing Union University to help hearing individuals learn sign language to communicate with those who have hearing loss.
The most remarkable feature of ArtfulSign is its use of AI models in sign language teaching. Each sign language word is presented through real-person video examples. After learning, users can activate (激活) the camera, and the app will recognize and evaluate the accuracy of their sign language gestures. AI-powered video analysis and machine learning enable immediate interaction and response, enhancing the learning experience.
Currently, there are very few researchers in China who study sign language as a natural language from a linguistic (语言学的) perspective; instead, it is often treated merely as a tool by those in the field of special education. Zhao hopes everyone can learn some basic sign language. “Whether it’s out of love and interest, a desire to help those with hearing damage, or simply for situations where speaking is difficult due to illness, sign language can be very useful,” she wrote.
She and the other two team members have spent six months developing ArtfulSign and are still working to make it more user-friendly. They plan to officially launch the product on the Apple App Store next spring. “We hope that one day ArtfulSign will become as common as accessible ramps (无障碍通道), allowing both the hearing-damaged and hearing people to use sign language. Eventually, there will be fewer barriers between us,” she wrote.
24. What can we learn about the ArtfulSign
A. It enables users to learn via live classes.
B. It helps hearing users learn sign language.
C. It helps hearing-loss people express themselves.
D. It is developed by three hearing college students.
25. What can AI do in the ArtfulSign
A. It allows instant interaction.
B. It judges the learning speed.
C. It enables the camera to work.
D. It shows sign language words.
26. What drove the team to develop the ArtfulSign
A. To earn money. B. To compete in the contest.
C. To finish their study. D. To bridge communication gap.
27. Which of the following best describes the team members
A. Patient. B. Creative. C. Curious. D. Amateur.
C
Want to boost your memory for tomorrow Get in a workout today. At least that’s the takeaway from a new study finding that older adults who did more moderate-to-intense (中到高强度的) physical activity than usual on a given day did better in memory tests the day after. Researchers found that moving more throughout the day and getting at least six hours of sleep further enhanced mental performance.
The study, published on Dec. 9 in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, builds on previous research showing exercise is good for brain health. “We know from laboratory-based studies that we get a cognitive (认知的) boost in the minutes to hours following a period of exercise,” lead study author Mikaela Bloomberg, a senior research fellow in University College London, told Health. “We wanted to see whether this benefit might last longer than a couple of hours outside of a laboratory.”
To examine the link between exercise and memory, researchers selected 76 cognitively healthy adults from the United Kingdom aged 50 to 83. The participants wore trackers on their wrists for eight days to monitor physical activity and sleep. They also took memory-focused tests daily.
Researchers found an association between an additional 30 minutes of moderate-to-intense physical activity and better short-term working memory and longer-term episodic memory, which is the ability to recall specific events the next day. Light exercise, such as taking the stairs or walking, did not affect memory the next day.
Experts agreed that the findings aren’t surprising. “There is increasing evidence that regular physical activity can enhance cognitive abilities and potentially lower the risk of developing future dementia (痴呆),” Peter Gliebus, MD, director of cognitive and behavioral neurology (神经学) at Marcus Neuroscience Institute, Florida, told Health. “This research strengthens existing evidence that regular physical activity is essential for ideal brain function.”
28. What does the new study focus on
A. The mental health of older adults. B. The effect of exercise on memory.
C. The problems of previous research. D. The link between sleep and memory.
29. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Process of the study. B. Subjects of the study.
C. Limitations of the study. D. Application of the study.
30. What can we learn from the findings of the new study
A. Regular exercise can avoid future dementia.
B. Light exercise improves short-term memory.
C. Not all exercise leads to better memory the next day.
D. Lacking sleep has no effect on memory the next day.
31. What is the best title for the passage
A. Sharpening your brain via light exercise. B. Exercising your way to a better memory.
C. Boosting your memory with a good sleep. D. Preparing your mind for tomorrow’s tests.

If you want to live elsewhere in the solar system, Mars is the least-bad choice. These days, the planet is a very cold, poison-filled desert. But as the dry river valleys that cross its surface suggest things were balmy enough in the past to allow liquid water.
A paper published this week in Science Advances offers a method to restore Mars to that warmer state by “terraforming” it — changing the planet’s climate to make it friendly to people on Earth. Samaneh Ansari, a graduate student at Northwestern University, in Illinois, and her workmates estimate that pumping (泵) engineered dust into the atmosphere could warm Mars to the point where much of the water ice that lies beneath its surface would melt (融化) , at least in the summer of Mars.
The dust would be made of tiny metallic sticks each around nine millionths of a metre long. That size is carefully chosen to ensure that the dust reflects heat, which would otherwise escape to space, back down to the planet’s surface. Climate models suggest that pumping 30 litres of the dust per second into the atmosphere could boost the average temperature by 30°C or more within decades.
That is a fair amount of dust. But it represents a big improvement on the state of the art. Another paper, published in 2005, investigated chlorofluorocarbons, a class of effective greenhouse gases, and concluded that hundreds of millions of tonnes would be required. Ms Ansari estimates that, in mass terms, her method is around 5, 000 times more efficient.
“And the paper is just a proof of concept, with plenty of room to make things more efficient still,” says Edwin Kite, a planetary scientist at the University of Chicago and one of its authors. “As planets go, Mars is certainly a house in need of repair. But the repair might be a bit easier than you think,” he added.
32. What does the underlined word “balmy” in Paragraph 1 mean
A. Light. B. Dark. C. Warm. D. Cold.
33. What is the function of the dust
A. Reflecting heat back to Mars.
B. Helping heat escape to space.
C. Warming up the earth’s surface.
D. Keeping greenhouse gases in Mars.
34. Why does the author mention the paper published in 2005
A. To stress the large quantities of dust required.
B. To prove the effect of the greenhouse-gas method.
C. To explain the working principle of the new method.
D. To show the advancement of the dust-pumping method.
35. What is Edwin Kite’s attitude towards the possibility of living on Mars
A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Uncertain. D. Indifferent.

Two Coins for the Carousel
I hold the two shiny coins in my pocket— just enough for two carousel (旋转木马) rides. The air is filled with the sounds of the carousel: the cheerful music, the rhythmic spinning (旋转) , and the laughter of children. They’re all reaching for rings from the dispenser (自动售货机) as they spin past, each hoping to catch the gold ring. That’s the one I’m after too. Every ride, a single gold ring appears, and whoever grabs it wins a ticket for a free, giant ice-cream. Silver rings just mean another ride, but I’m set on the gold.
Spotting my friend Alice across the crowd, I pull Mom by the sleeve. “Look, Mama,” I say, pointing. “Can I go and say hello ” Mama nods, saying “Go ahead, Grace.” I take off through the crowd.
Alice is watching the carousel, her eyes fixed on the spinning horses. “Are you going to ride ” I ask. She shakes her head. “Papa doesn’t bring any coins today.”
Feeling the weight of my two coins, I know Mama won’t mind if I share. “Do you want to ride with me ” I offer, holding up the coins. Her smile is all the answer I need.
“I’m going to share my coins with Alice,” I whisper to Mama as we make our way toward the carousel. Mama’s smile tells me I made the right choice.
I hand my coin to the worker and Alice gives him my other coin. “Which one do you want to ride ” asks Alice. I think she wants me to pick first since I’m the one who paid. A blue horse with a chipped nose catches my eye. “This one,” I say proudly, climbing on and grasping the pole tightly. Alice looks around me quickly and picks the one right behind me.
As we spin, the music slows, signaling the end of the ride. I have one more chance for the gold ring. And there it is, sliding down the dispenser. I stretch out my hand, but it slips through my fingers. Maybe next time.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

W: Tonight we’re going to look at the new James Bond film. Well, I really liked this new James Bond actor! He’s the most suitable actor that’s ever had the role.
M: I agree, a perfect 007 type.
W: Yeah, and his acting was so unbelievably natural.
M: What did you think of the story
W: It was the standard Bond movie with the usual beautiful women, the usual bad character— nothing new.
M: Well, I have to say that I thought the story was unusually good.
W: Fine, what did you think about the music I was totally impressed by it.
M: Yeah, it really added to the action scenes.
W: Yes, but unfortunately that brings up a weakness in the film for me: the special effects. Again, it’s just the same old stuff.
M: So, overall, how do you rate this movie
W: Well, I have to give it only two stars ... a rating of “fair”. How about you
M: Well, I give it my highest rating ... four stars out of five!
W: Hmm. Well, that’s all from us tonight. See you tomorrow and we’ll talk about a best-selling novel.

【原文】M: Hi there. I’m Tim Tanner. I am honored to be here today. I’ve appeared on lots of TV shows with my brother Sam Tanner as the singing twin brothers. People often ask us what it’s like to be twins. Well, I was born ten minutes before Sam so I’m the older brother, although we do have a real older brother, Ken, who’s a year older than us. We were born premature — we suddenly appeared in October rather than January. Ken’s birthday is in December, so we’re pretty close in age.
Sam and I aren’t completely the same, but even our dad makes mistakes sometimes, because there’s hardly any difference in our hair, and we’ re the same build. But as soon as we open our mouths, he’ll know which one it is.
In character we’re mostly similar — we’ve both always loved music, and we’ve always had a real interest in going out. However, people that know us say I’m not as confident as Sam is, which is probably true.
We are going to promote our new album Time Dance next week, which is quite different from our first one Soul Brothers. We’ve poured our hearts into it, and we’d be incredibly grateful for your support.

【答案】21. C 22. A 23. D

A. Patient. B. Creative. C. Curious. D. Amateur.
【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D 27. B

【答案】
Behind me, Alice starts shouting with excitement. Looking back, I see her holding up the gold ring high, her face brightened up with joy. “That’s amazing, Alice!” I exclaim, with a wide grin spreading across my face, though a touch of disappointment flashes through my mind. We climb down from Carousel. I run to my mom while Alice can’t wait to get her giant ice cream. Mama sensitively perceives the little upset on my face, gently comforting me, “Maybe next time.”
“Gracie! Let’s share it!” she shouts, holding up the ice-cream. Hearing her words, I smile, my eyes twinkling with joy. I look at Mama who smiles back and nods. I run with Alice to a bench. We eat the ice cream, talking about how lucky we are. After a while, Mama reminds me it is time to go home. “Thanks for the ice cream,” I say to Alice. “Thanks for your coin,” she responds. It is at that moment that we both enjoy the happiness of sharing.
