单元内容分析
Theme Analysis This unit revolves around "connections", with the theme focusing on the associations between things, including the connections between people and between people and society. Through different texts and topics, it explores the closeness of interpersonal relationships, the community spirit, and the emotional bonds among characters in literary works, helping students understand the interrelationships between individuals and others as well as between individuals and their surrounding environments. This is conducive to cultivating students to view the world from an interconnected perspective and enhancing the breadth and depth of their thinking. Language Knowledge Vocabulary: This unit contains a large number of words related to interpersonal relationships and social connections. For example, "bond" (bond; connection), "apologize" (apologize), "interact" (interact; interact with each other), "impression" (impression), etc. These words can help students accurately describe the degree and type of relationships between people, enriching the language materials for students when expressing topics related to connections. Grammar: The core grammar to be learned in this unit is the passive voice in the past tense. The textbook demonstrates its structures "was/were + past participle", "was/were + being + past participle", "had + been + past participle" through abundant examples. This grammatical form is used when describing an action that occurred in the past and the subject is the receiver of the action. In the texts, students can see the application of the passive voice in the past tense in different scenarios. For example, "The concept was first talked about as long ago as the 1920s." (describing an event that occurred in the past) "Once the parcel had been received by this person, he or she would send the parcel onto a contact of theirs until the parcel could be personally delivered to the correct person." (describing the sequence of actions that occurred in the past). These examples can well help students understand the function of grammar in actual language communication and enable them to accurately use it when narrating passive relationships in past events. It also involves the use of attributive clauses to further describe the complex relationships between people or things, making the expression more accurate and clear. Reading Texts The reading materials present various connections through different researches, cases, stories, and cultural elements. For example, by elaborating on the research process and results of the Six Degrees of Separation theory, it shows that the connections between people are much closer than we imagine; by interpreting the literary work "Anne of Green Gables", it reflects the emotional connections between people, between people and the environment, and the impact of growth experiences, showing the beauty of human nature, the transformation of individuals in special environments, and the role of emotional bonds; by analyzing the relationships and character traits of the characters in Shakespeare's play "The Merchant of Venice", it guides students to further think about the causes of the character traits of the characters in the play and the process of mutual shaping between people and society. These texts can exercise students' abilities to obtain key information, understand the main idea and infer the author's intention; prompt students to think about the impact of such close connections between people, between people and society, and between people and the environment on individuals and society, guiding students to establish positive and upward outlooks on life and values; at the same time, enhance students' literary appreciation abilities, allowing them to experience the beautiful language, wonderful plots and profound characterizations in literary works. Listening and Speaking The listening content revolves around the topic of connections between people, involving getting along with family members, getting along with neighbors and community life, presented in the form of dialogues, and testing forms are various, such as multiple choice, filling in the blanks and answering questions. These materials can effectively improve students' abilities to capture detailed information and understand the logical relationships in spoken expressions, while enriching students' vocabulary expressions on this topic and laying the foundation for students to introduce their own community lives. The audio-visual section provides students with an audio-visual material about first impressions, guiding students to establish correct concepts of interpersonal communication. That is, first impressions are important, but we should also update our impressions of others in a timely manner according to their later words and deeds to avoid making subjective assumptions about others beforehand. Writing The writing task in this unit is to write a news report. The given reading material is a news report about community spirit and festivals. On the one hand, it strengthens students' understanding of the connections between people and between people and society, enriches students' vocabulary expressions. On the other hand, it provides a practical structure for students to write a news report.
