Back in Venice, news reaches Antonio that his ships, which were carrying his goods and making him money, have been lost at sea. He is unable to repay his debt to Shylock, who demands his pound offlesh as agreed. Portia, disguised as a lawyer, arrives in Venice to help Antonio. 教学反思
Teaching Reflection 1. Successes Stimulating Interest through Scenario Creation: The scenario design of comparing the course to a voyage was quite successful. By drawing a cruise
- 37 -
ship on the blackboard and inviting students to sail together, it effectively stimulated students' interest in learning, making them more actively participate in the course and creating a good atmosphere for the whole class. Guiding Learning with Clear Objectives: At the beginning of the teaching, students were made clear about the learning objectives, and all teaching activities were closely centered around these objectives throughout the various teaching stages. This helps students clearly understand the key points and directions ofthe course, enabling them to better master knowledge and skills. Diverse Teaching Activities: In the preview check section, through various activities such as checking language points, understanding the text, solving difficulties, and sorting out the relationships among characters, students' preview results were comprehensively consolidated, and their understanding of the text was deepened. Meanwhile, the intensive reading and role-playing activities can exercise students' language expression abilities and cooperation abilities, enriching the forms of the classroom. 2. Deficiencies Time Management Issues: In the preview check section, especially when discussing the expressions in the text and talking about the three questions related to the theme, it may have taken too much time—about 7 minutes, resulting in a rush in the subsequent intensive reading and role-playing sections. Some students may not have had sufficient opportunities to fully demonstrate themselves. Insufficient Attention to Individual Differences: During the teaching process, although there were group activities and classroom questions,
- 38 -
perhaps not enough attention was paid to some students with weaker learning abilities or introverted personalities. They may have had difficulties in understanding and participating in the course content, but did not receive timely assistance. Difficult reading material: The text selected for this class is relatively difficult. As a result, during the presentation part, students' English proficiency and expressive abilities are not fully demonstrated. It is mainly because of the limited English level and expressive skills of the students. 3. Improvement Measures Optimizing Time Arrangement: In future teaching, it is necessary to plan the time of each teaching stage more accurately. For discussion sections, time limits can be set, or more thorough preparations can be made in advance for the difficulties that students may encounter, so as to guide students to solve problems more efficiently and ensure the smooth completion of each stage. If necessary, some contents can by cut to ensure a better time arrangement. Focusing on Individual Development: Provide more feedback and guidance targeted at individual students. For example, encourage mutual assistance among group members during group activities, and during the patrolling process, teachers should pay more attention to students with learning difficulties, giving them more opportunities to speak and targeted guidance. Additionally, extra learning resources and tutoring can be provided for these students after class. Practice oral English more: In future English teaching, more attention should be paid to improving students' English expression ability. This can be
- 39 -
achieved by providing more opportunities for them to practice speaking, such as conducting more group discussions, English speech contests, and assigning more oral presentation tasks with appropriate difficulty levels. Also, we can choose teaching materials that are more in line with students' current English level to ensure that they can better show their abilities and gain more confidence in the learning process.
