Micro blogs like Weibo are nothing new for the young Chinese. A newspaper in Chengdu did a survey last month. It found that 90 percent of junior high school students use micro blogs.
They give students an outlet (出口) for emotion. “I use micro blogs to record my life. I let everyone ‘see’ my feelings and complaints (抱怨),” said Liu Fangyue, 14, from Xiamen No. 1 Middle School. They have fun with classmates even after school. “I would send a message to praise someone who came first in the exam,” said Liu.
Teachers also join in the fun. “When I sit down to talk to my students, they may not tell me their real thoughts,” said Lu Dongping at Nanning No. 2 Middle School. “But on micro blogs, they are more relaxed. They even make fun of me.”

“In order to understand their English posts, I have to check the dictionary and learn many new words,” said Zhong.
“Micro blogs widen students’ perspectives (观点), but there are rules to follow,” said Shi Zhongying, a professor from Beijing Normal University. He shares some of them with micro bloggers.

“We bought the brush because Katie liked the look of it. It has a bear on it called Billy, and when you press the button on the front, the light flashes for 60 seconds—which is how long kids need to brush. ”
“When we got it home, we turned the bathroom lights out so Katie could try it. She loved it, but when I looked at her face in the dark, I could see the lights creating a strange white reflection in one eye. At that point, we decided to take her straight to the hospital.

If you miss out a meal, do you ever notice yourself starting to get angry or annoyed very easily Well, this is often known as being “hangry” or being angry because you are very hungry.
It’s not just a funny phrase, but is scientifically true! Scientists found this feeling of anger usually comes from having low glucose (葡萄糖) levels in the blood. Glucose is put into the body after you eat.
The brain also needs this to work correctly. When the body is low in glucose, the brain sends hormones (激素) to increase the amount of glucose in the body. Brenda Bustillos, a dietitian at Texas A&M University, the US, says, “Hunger leads to high stress hormones, which make it hard to manage our feelings.”
Amanda Salis, PhD, University of Sydney, says that we may also be able to thank our ancestors (祖先) for our “hanger”. Salis says that long ago when there was not much food, people had to be aggressive to eat as much as they could to get enough food to live. So even now when most people have enough food to eat, there is still that aggressive feeling toward needing food.

“Made in China” is having its moment now--and it’s a fashionable one.
The story of Chinese fashion began in 2011 when Feiyue and Huili, both Chinese sports shoe brands(品牌), suddenly got international attention. Their products were seen all over the world. Chinese sportswear brand Li Ning was at the New York Fashion Week in September, 2018. They showed their new designs—sweaters and jackets with Chinese characters.
Shaun Rein, managing director of China Market Research Group, said that the latest Chinese brands no longer catch customers’ eye by low price. He told CNN, “They are sure that they can go head to head with foreign brands. ”
Maybe it is because China’s young people are now more confident about their own culture. They don’t show immediate interest in western culture any more.
“Today’s young people in China are crazy about Chinese cultural elements(元素), ”. Jin Qu, the manager of a clothing shopping website, said at a cultural festival in 2018. “They like these elements printed on their clothes, even the brand picture of Laoganma in China, which was once seen as outside of fashion. But now young people are proud of these Chinese symbols. ”
In fact, many stars in the West are now interested in Chinese cultural elements in fashion. Rihanna, a US singer, for example, wore a Chinese red dress to the 2015 Met Gala in New York. The dress was designed and made by Chinese designer Guo Pei.
“We have to move from making to creating, ” Chinese-American designer Aric Chen once told The New York Times. “We want to replace the words ‘Made in China’ with ‘Designed in China’. ”

Let us imagine how Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen’s most famous work, might be updated, 200 years ago. Austen’s popularity is rooted in her intelligence. But today she would certainly have had a very different life, as would her characters. Here’ s my own suggestion.
It’s a truth finally and generally acknowledged that a single woman with brains should have equal opportunities to men, however disadvantaged she may feel sexism (性别歧视).
“My dear husband,” said his hopeful wife one day. “Have you heard that the local store, standing empty for so long, is taken over by a bright young businesswoman ”
Her dull and indifferent (漠不关心) husband replied that he had not. “but it is, it is,” she replied excitedly. Mr Dull—husband made no reply.
“Don’t you want to know her plans ” she cried with some impatience.
“Well, my dear, the rumor is that she had already set up a string of successful business in northern England, though how a woman can know anything about that is beyond me . She will move in herself next month.” “What is her name ” “Bingley.”
“Is she married or single ”
“What a question! And none of your business. But her coming will be a fine thing for our five boys.” “How so How can it possibly affect them ”
“My dear love, those lazy boys need something to wake them up. There are certain to be jobs going.”
“Is that her point in settling here Surely as a woman she has simply taken a fancy to the place.”
“Nonsense, my love, how little you’ve noticed the world has changed. She’s got a first-rate degree and some sort of business qualification, I’m told. She surely needs one of our boys! Perhaps you might give her a call.”
“Me No. Perhaps you can take an interest. You still have your looks, after all. She may even offer you a job.” “Oh, that’s not likely. These new chances belong to the younger generation. But now you mention it, I think I’ll go along all the same.”
And Mrs Bennet went wrong. That was 10 years ago. She is now managing director of a FTSE-listed company.
… It would remain the case, of course, that Mrs Bennet would be one of very few women on the company board, that her salary would be lower than her male colleagues, her bonus of a more “female” dimension and her lifespan among the city’s business leaders shorter than theirs. Still, she’d no doubt have enjoyed Davos—and might even have hobnobbed (巴结) with influential figures.
