Lesson 2 Relaxing
ListeningLead-inNowadays, more and more people feel stressed and they will find some ways to reduce their stress.
As a student, what will you do if you feel stressed?
Pre-listening1. Look at the four pictures on page 10. What are they doing?
How do you find these activities?/ what do you think of these activities?
For example:
I find painting or drawing very relaxing.2. We will listen to an interview about relaxing. Before listening, do exercise 2 and we will check the answers together.
3. Finish exercise 3 and try to predict the answers to the questions. More than one answer is possible.
While-listeningListen to the interview and check your answers.
Listen again and answer the following questions.
1) When do students suffer from stress?
When they have a lot of homework to do and they feel they haven’t got much time to do it.
2) What social situations can be difficult for shy people?
Parties.
3) What is a good way of organizing work or studies.
Make a list and do all the important things first.
4) Who can people talk to about their problems?
A friend, someone in the family, a teacher.Do Exercise 6. Listen to Mark and complete the table.

Work in pairs and act out a role-play in which one person is not sure what to say and so uses a lot of hesitation words. Choose one situation to prepare your dialogue. After preparation, two pairs will have the chance to act out their dialogue in front of the whole class.
Situation 1:
Student A wants to borrow some money from student B for some urgent matters.
Student B does not want to lend money to student A and tries to find as many excuses as possible to reject student A.
Situation 2:
Student A borrowed student B’s favorite game player last week.
Student B now asks student A for it back but student B can’t find it.
Language PointsFind/catch/notice/see+ O.(宾语)+ O.C.(宾语补足语)(-ing/-ed/adj./n./prep.)
I find painting or drawing relaxing.
They found him wounded by a knife.
The police found him dead in the room.
We found them at the foot of the mountain when we got there.2. Suffer from… 忍受，遭受
John suffers from backache.
Though he suffered a lot from the hard work, yet he never complained about it.3. Take place (事情的发生一定有某种原因或是事先的安排)
Happen （通常指偶然发生的事情）
Break out （通常指激烈事件或大的自然灾害）发生
The interview took place in a studio.
A car accident happened on the bridge.
Bird flu has broken out in many countries.4. Lose weight 减轻体重
Put on weight 增加体重
He is an expert on losing weight.
It is easier to put on weight, but it is quite difficult to lose weight.5. can’t stand sth./sb./ doing sth. 无法忍受某事/某人
She can’t stand being kept waiting.
Can you stand that hot weather?
6. Take turns to do sth./ take turns (in) doing sth= take it in turns to do sth. 依次、轮流做某事
In turn 依次地，一个接一个地，（按一定顺序）
By turns 轮流地，（有交替的寓意）
We take turns to give an introduction in front of the class.
They went into the meeting hall in turn.
