In my first semester as a teaching assistant, a student came to me with a sensitive request. The professor required students to use electronic clickers to answer multiple-choice questions during the lecture; participation would count toward their grade. But this student could not afford the $50 for a clicker and $30 to register it. She offered to write her answers on paper and give them to me after every lecture. She reminded me of myself—and of our responsibility as educators to support poor students without singling them out.
When I went to college, I chose to attend the school where I can receive the most financial aid. But most professors required expensive textbooks and class materials, which were great burden placed on me. I struggled with feelings of isolation (孤立) and insecurity. I lied about the many hours I worked at part-time jobs, why I couldn’t go to the movies, and why I couldn’t ask my family for money.
There were rare exceptions, such as my calculus professor. He gave me a much-appreciated boost when he lent the entire class his own textbooks for the semester. Other students may have turned up their noses at the books’ poor condition, but I was incredibly grateful. His gesture, and similar efforts made by a handful of teachers, helped me make it through my undergraduate and master’s studies. And once I learned Ph. D, I was paid a stipend (津贴). I finally felt I belonged in higher education.
When that student told me she couldn’t afford a clicker, though, I realized I had once been in her shoes so I told her my earlier struggles to help her feel less alone. And I let her submit her answers on paper and manually entered her attendance into the gradebook.
In the years since then, I’ve continued to talk about my experiences when they seem relevant. I feel all low-income students should have mentors who can help them cope with the many expenses associated with college and make them feel welcome. And I hope that more academics can be like my calculus professor, who with his simple gesture made such a big difference for me.
4. What made the author sensitive to the student’s request in paragraph 1
A. The professor’s requirement. B. The educator’s teaching career.
C. The author’s similar experience. D. The student’s academic struggles.
5. Why did the author tell lies in school
A. To make himself feel privileged to study there. B. To hide his lower socioeconomic status to fit in.
C. To receive the most financial aid from the school. D. To avoid getting classmates concerned about him.
6. What did the author do to help low-income students
A. Share his own stories. B. Lend them old books.
C. Donate his stipend to them. D. Give his own shoes to them.
7. What does the author mainly want to explain in the text
A. How low-income students integrate into college. B. Why educators should single poor students out.
C. Why poor students should be more hardworking. D. How educators can support low-income students.

Have you ever conducted a job interview through video Do you work remotely and mostly communicate with your colleagues through technologies like Microsoft Teams or Slack Technologies are rapidly changing how, when, and where we work. But what impact do they have on our work motivation We recently reviewed the research done to answer this question and unfortunately, the news is not so good.
For the most part, technologies have worsened the satisfaction of our psychological needs when we work. They are robbing us of our feelings of control and freedom because they monitor us and tell us what and how to do our work; sometimes they also pressure us to work faster. And they are decreasing our chances to create meaningful relationships with colleagues.
To fix and avoid these issues in the future, we have concluded from this review that we need to advocate for the use of psychological knowledge when designing technologies to be used in work environments. Psychologists are well equipped to advise how to design and use technologies in ways that will maintain or even improve the design of our work.
Work is considered to be well-designed when it gives us some decision-making power, provides us with performance feedback, and allows us to connect with colleagues not only to increase relatedness but also to see the impact our work has on stakeholders (利益相关者). Good work design makes our work more meaningful.
Why is this important Because work motivation that stems from meaning and enjoyment will be increasingly important in the future of work. Indeed, as work environments and career tracks become more dynamic and precarious, we need workers to be more active and flexible for the changeable situation. And motivation through meaning and enjoyment makes people more active and flexible.
So, when you hear your employer wants to introduce new technologies in your workplace, ask them if they have used the service of psychology experts. It will ensure your work keeps being designed in a way that will make it meaningful and enjoyable.
8. According to the recent research review how do technologies affect our work
A. They decrease our working efficiency.
B. They increase our psychological needs.
C. They improve our relationships with colleagues.
D. They reduce our work motivation for creativity.
9. What does the author suggest for introducing technologies in work
A. Updating technical equipment. B. Consulting psychology experts.
C. Reviewing the former research. D. Improving the design of our work.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The process of good work design. B. The potential decision-making power.
C. The characteristic of well-designed work. D. The meaning of connection with colleagues.
11. What does the underlined word “precarious” mean in paragraph 5
A. Uncertain. B. Unavoidable. C. Rewarding. D. Straightforward.
D
For decades, it was standard practice in Hollywood for art departments to build sets for movies and TV shows from zero, and then break them down at the end of production and throw the pieces away. Things are becoming easier, as the industry is gradually coming to understand its impact on human caused climate change.
Karen Steward, a famous Hollywood art director, and a group of like-minded Art Directors Guild members found the Art Directors Guild’s Green Committee (ADGGC) to share best practices and educate others about topics such as reducing waste and sourcing more sustainable set construction materials. “To find a true zero waste solution is what we’re working toward,” she said. “One such solution is to reuse old sets rather than always building new ones.”
Beachwood Services, owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment, rents out sets and props (道具) for reuse that were originally built for its own productions. But art directors sometimes resist the idea of reusing old sets, because they want to realize their own creative vision. But Sondra Garcia, Beachwood's director of scenic operations, said the service allows them to change what they rent to suit their needs.
“We tell people, ‘You’re going to put your own spin on it. You’re going to paint it. You’re going to rearrange it. And then it is your design,’” said Garcia. “The most important thing to remember is to recycle stuff because it’s less wasteful, and producers like it because it saves money.”
And when those sets get too old to rent out to big-budget productions, they often wind up at places like EcoSet, where those treasures are then donated to whoever wants them.
“I think this place is very friendly for students who don’t have so much funding and support,” said film student Oyster Liao. She was pushing a metal shopping cart piled high with pots of paint around EcoSet’s warehouse. “And I like that we don’t have to waste so much.”
12. What does the ADGGC intend to do
A. To save film-making time. B. To make film-making easier.
C. To help directors make exciting films. D. To push for more sustainable practices.
13 How does Sondra Garcia talk art directors into reusing old sets
A. By reducing rent payments. B. By allowing adaption to them.
C. By offering to redesign them. D. By cooperating in film-making.
14. What will the old sets be dealt with when they aren't rent out
A. They are kept in EcoSet for show. B. They are buried under the ground.
C. They are used in big-budget productions. D. They are given to whoever needs them.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. Film-making is becoming more difficult.
B. Film-making is getting more economical.
C. Hollywood art directors work to recycle old sets.
D. Hollywood art directors prefer sustainable materials.

Unbreakable
My brother and I were playing a game of tag in the house. “Tag! You’re it!”, shouted Alim and ran as fast as his 5-year-old legs could carry him. I chased closely behind. I watched him jump over the sofa and landed, falling sideways to hit our Mom’s favourite vase, the one late Grandpa gave her on her wedding day, off the side table. SMASH!! Alim burst into tears almost at the same time the vase broke. I was equally alarmed said “Ha! Alim, you are in trouble.” This made Alim cry more, “Mummy is going to beat me!”
He was crying so much that I felt sorry for him. Just then Mom came into the house. I rushed over to Alim’s side. “What is this Who broke my vase ” My Mom shouted. Her eyes were wide open and bright with terrible anger. Alim tried to say something through his tears but I started to clean his wet face with my hand and I said, “I am so sorry, Mom. I broke the vase and told Alim that I would say it was him.” My Mom pulled me by my left ear and dragged me to our room. Alim followed quietly behind. My Mom said, “That’s it. You are grounded for the rest of the holiday.” As she closed the room door on me, I saw Alim’s face in the corner, his eyes very big, looking straight at me.
The door was shut and I felt very alone in the room as I nursed my painful ear. Why did I do that I thought. Alim should be the one taking the punishment, not me. Humph. He owes me big time. I fell asleep thinking of the ways I could get back at Alim. I woke up suddenly with the realization that Alim was not in the room with me. He had not come to bed. I tiptoed out of the room to look for him. The house was quiet and dark and I was beginning to worry when I noticed the light through the kitchen door.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

【答案】Dear Tom,
Last week, our school organized a patriotic song singing contest to enrich our extracurricular activities, and it was truly an inspiring event!
Students from different grades participated enthusiastically in it, singing patriotic songs that celebrated our country’s glory and history. The atmosphere was electric as everyone sang with passion and pride. I performed a song that my grandfather used to sing, which made me feel connected to our heritage.
I learn that expressing patriotism can take various forms, and music is one of the most beautiful ways to do so. It is a heartwarming experience that I will always treasure.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

【答案】When I got there, Alim was picking out the pieces of the vase from the garbage bag. He put the different pieces on the ground, and then carefully pieced them together according to the color of the pattern. It's hard for Alim, because it takes patience and perseverance, but Alim doesn't give up. He tries patiently, and I can see the joy on his face every time he finishes a piece. I knew this time he really knew he was wrong. He wanted to put the vase together so that my mother wouldn't blame me again. At the thought of this my anger disappeared. I slipped back into the bedroom, hoping I hadn't disturbed him.
The next morning Mum walked into our room and stopped as she saw the “new” vase. Mother was not surprised that the vase had been restored. She called over both of us and asked us who had broken the vase and who had repaired it. This time Mr Alim voluntarily admitted his mistake. At that moment, Mom hugged us and said “I shouldn't have punished you so impulsively. I actually saw Alim's efforts last night. That moved me. ”It was then that we both realized how much she loved us. And that's when my relationship with Alim became unbreakable.
