On September 11, 2001, al-Qaeda(基地组织) launched a terrorist attack on the US. They hijacked (劫持) four passenger planes and planned to hit three targets. Two planes flew to crash into the World Trade Center, one to the Pentagon, and the last to Washington D.C. The last plane was the only one that missed its target because the passengers on the plane managed to overcome the hijackers. The most destructive attack was the one on the World Trade Center, which claimed 2,606 lives.
