A 12-year-old girl’s playground vision has become a reality, thanks to the kindness and support of Clearfield City officials who welcomed her creativity and passion.
Earlier this year, young Rosili noticed that a new playground at Thornock Park was being built, but the equipment seemed more suitable for older kids. Concerned that she wouldn’t be able to enjoy it with her younger sisters, Rosili took matters into her own hands. Armed with creativity and a passion for play, she designed her ideal playground with detailed descriptions and labels.
With support from her mom, Rosili took her designs to Clearfield’s city hall, where she met with Eric Howes, the city’s community services director. Impressed by the effort and thought Rosili put into her drawings, Howes took time to review each of her plans. “She put a ton of time into that and a lot of thought, and she showed it from four different angles,” Howes explained.
Although the Thornock Park playground was already in progress, the city had plans to build a new playground at Bicentennial Park, and Rosili’s designs were used in the project. Rosili was involved in every step of the process, working alongside city officials and playground equipment vendors to bring her dream to life.
On Tuesday, Rosili’s dream playground was officially opened at Bicentennial Park. Rosili proudly cut the ribbon at the ceremony, creating a new play space for children of all ages to enjoy — a space that was imagined and brought to life by a young girl who believed she could make a difference.

Have you ever heard of a Tesla car Although you may be familiar with the name Tesla because of the famous car, you may not be aware that Tesla cars are named after an inventor named Nikola Tesla.
Nikola Tesla was born in 1865. During high school, Tesla was amazed by the power of electricity and wanted to learn more about this wonderful force. It was in the university that Tesla first learned about a dynamo (发电机), which is used to generate electricity. He started to have ideas about how he could make it work better. Tesla worked very hard. It was said he worked from 3 a. m. to 11 p. m. and didn’t take breaks on the weekend.
After university Tesla worked for Thomas Edison’s power company. Unfortunately, his work with Edison didn’t last long. Instead, Tesla took his ideas to George Westinghouse, who bought his idea for the alternating current dynamo. Direct current is what Thomas Edison used and worked by sending an electrical current one way, but Tesla’s idea was to switch the directions in the sent current. To this day, Tesla’s alternating current is widely used.
Tesla then started his own lab and experimented with ideas that helped pave the way for the x-ray. He also created the Tesla coil, which was later used for sending radio waves through the air or radios and televisions. He went on to create the first hydroelectric power generator.
Tesla continued to come up with new ideas, but most of his designs stayed in his notebooks and he didn’t get a chance to actually build them. In 1937, when he passed away, many around the world mourned his death. Someone was quoted as saying that he was “one of the outstanding intellects of the world who paved the way for many of the technological developments of modern times.”

For coffee lovers, the future is shaping up to be bitter and pricey, as climate change roasts the world’s key growing regions. Farmers have to dig deeper to get water.
Tougher growing conditions have led Vietnamese farmers to question the value of coffee as a cash crop, with some pulling out their trees to plant black pepper and other tropic fruits. Reduced supply has already pushed the robusta (罗布斯塔) price in 2024 to the highest level since at least 2008 — and still, rising temperatures mean future production will fall short.
Regions suitable for crop production reduce globally primarily due to increased heat. Hardier varieties are expected to fare better, and for coffee that means strong, earthy robusta. Researchers found that it would be necessary to adapt, including by replacing arabica (阿拉比卡) with hardier robusta. However, robusta is not a silver bullet for climate change. Researchers are still learning robusta’s limits though it’s more tolerant to heat and to some diseases and pests.
Prolonged dry periods in Vietnam and lack of irrigation water in recent years have already severely affected the productivity of robusta coffee farms in the Central Highlands, according to a study published in 2021. In an October report, World Coffee Research (WCR) said the world may face robusta shortages in 2040 of as much as 35 million bags when taking into account rising consumption trends and the impact of climate change on production. The world currently produces close to 80 million bags of robusta a year.
Farmers are seeing the benefit of more sustainable farming practices. Farmers have cut back on chemical fertilisers and provided shade for coffee shrubs (灌木) so they’re less exposed to the burning sun. They have also planted black pepper to diversify. When applying this, they have more income, and they can save a lot of labour. Lien, who began planting coffee nearly thirty years ago, said, “Now I see my coffee better developed, with better yields.”
12. What troubles farmers most when planting coffee
A. Lower price and less labour. B. Poor quality with bitter flavor.
C. Reduced productivity of coffee. D. Heat pressure and water shortages.
13. What does the phrase “silver bullet” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Backup choice. B. Tragic victim.
C. Security blanket. D. One-size-fits-all solution.
14. What’s the author’s attitude towards the farming practices
A. Supportive. B. Critical. C. Objective. D. Indifferent.
15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. Robusta coffee price will stabilize soon.
B. Sustainable farming is becoming popular.
C. Vietnamese farmers are abandoning coffee farming.
D. Dry periods affect the productivity of robusta coffee farms.

April 22 is International Earth Day, a date that stresses the importance of rethinking our relationship with natural resources. Offering environmental education via immersive experiences
___19___. Visitors get to know the environmental challenges of each region and return home more aware of their role as citizens.
Reconnecting with the planet by embracing mindful trips
More than just a style of travel, ecotourism invites us to change our mentality: to get out of the consumption mode and into a more attentive rhythm, more sensitive to the rhythms of the earth.
To sum up, this type of tourism invites reconnection. ___20___. In times of climate emergency, water scarcity and accelerated degradation of ecosystems, this reconnection is no longer an individual choice. It is a collective need, urgent and unavoidable.

“Misssy,” I cried to my wife. “Did you put his banana skin on my desk ” “No, honey, Meghan probably did.” As I’d feared, she had missed the real purpose of my question, which was to make it clear to her that she hadn’t done her job of defending my desk against the invader-our naughty girl. I abandoned the conversation.
I sat at my desk and stared at the screen. I waited patiently for ideas to come to me as I tried to think up exam questions for a test I would give my English students. My wife was off to a party somewhere, but I was not alone. Meghan, our 22-month-old angel, kept me company. Yet her plans seemed to go against mine.
She followed a daily routine that was both time-consuming and challenging. It included certain basic tasks: watching the fish, sweeping the floor in her room, climbing up and down on her bed.
At first I was able to concentrate on designing my test paper. But I was soon sidetracked. I had not counted on the arrival of the “bib-bibs”---“bib-bibs” were birds. “Bib-bibs!” Meghan screamed excitedly, her eyes alive with expectation. She insisted that I came with her to the window.
“In a minute. Just let me finish this question.” I said. She pulled me by the hand (two fingers actually) toward the window. I saw myself as a fool, being led to watch the “bib-bids”. They chattered and leaped back and forth on the lawn just outside our apartment window. Meghan was absorbed, but as I watched them, I still thought about my work. With her attention off me, I left the window and went back to my desk.
Five minutes later, she returned. She reached up to my keyboard and pressed a bunch of keys, adding a long line of scrabbled letters to my question. I struggled to bring my annoyance under control. “No, thank you, Meghan. Daddy’s seen your work. I will do it myself.” She backed off.
