When I was ten, my brother and I received a wonderful gift — tennis rackets (球拍) and balls. One Saturday morning, my brother and I took our tennis rackets and balls to the school and took turns hitting our balls against the side of the two-storey school building. We were hitting the ball higher and faster. Suddenly, the ball went right through one of the upstairs windows.
We looked around and nobody was in sight except an old man sitting on a porch (门廊) halfway. “What should we do ” I asked. My brother answered, “No one will know whose ball it is. No one saw us, except that old man. He probably can't see this far. Let's go home.” We picked up the rest of our balls and headed home.
“What happened ” Mum asked. “Well,” my brother slowly began, “we had a great time until we hit the ball too hard and too high and it went right through the school window.” My mother said loudly, “You'll have to tell your father.”
As soon as my father walked in the house, we hurried to him and told our story. He was composed and said, “Well, today is Saturday. On Monday, I'll call the school janitor (看门人) and see what we need to do.”
We had two days to wait until our dad got home from work on Monday. He smiled, saying, “Well, I talked to the school janitor. He told me that he'd been sitting on his porch watching when you two were playing tennis. He said many windows had been broken, but we were the first ones to call. He said the school allows for window repair, so we won't have to pay for the window.”
We discovered there's always someone who sees what we do and we might as well admit our mistakes.
4. Why did the author and his brother go home from the school
A. Their tennis balls went in the house. B. They got tired from playing tennis.
C. Their bad behaviour would be found. D. They wanted to repair the windows.
5. What does the underlined word “composed” in Paragraph 4 mean
A. Calm. B. Angry. C. Anxious. D. Surprised.
6. What can we learn from the janitor's words
A. He thought they were responsible. B. It was cheap to repair the windows.
C. He enjoyed watching tennis games. D. It was hard to avoid such accidents.
7. What does the story tell us
A. We should avoid making mistakes. B. We should face up to mistakes.
C. We should learn from what we did. D. We should depend on parents.

We all enjoy being part of a group — there’s no better work than teamwork, right In fact, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It’s much more suitable for me, so I started to think about why teamwork can make our jobs not easier but harder.
Personalities (个性) can make teamwork difficult. There’s often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Imagine what more means.
Not having enough time together can also make teamwork a problem. For example, I was once on a team where group members never had enough time to meet. To successfully work as a team, you need time together — and lots of it.
A final reason teamwork is difficult is because there’s often no training on how to work on a team. You can’t just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren’t just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.
Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn’t work, I don’t have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don’t have anyone to share it with to see if it is really a great idea. Don’t get me wrong — I still like working alone and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that’s useful information — because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.
8. Why did the writer choose to work from home on his own
A. To keep himself busier. B. To keep himself healthier.
C. To make his job easier. D. To make his team harder.
9. Which of the following makes teamwork difficult
A. Difficult personality. B. Lots of teamwork time.
C. Wonderful ideas. D. Clear team roles.
10. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. WE TEAM has hardly any advantages. B. ME TEAM needs a lot of IT engineers.
C. ME TEAM has no challenges for the writer. D. WE TEAM may be the writer’s choice one day.
11. What is the purpose of the passage
A. To show the advantages of teamwork. B. To tell the importance of teamwork.
C. To introduce the influence of teamwork. D. To explain the difficulties of teamwork.
D
The saying “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” has become popular, yet many dismiss it as empty advice. For someone approaching 50, the reality of aging can feel unavoidable (不可避免的). However, recent studies show that our subjective(主观的) age — how old we feel — has a profound impact on health and lifespan(寿命). Traditionally, age is measured by birth certificates, but scientists now focus on biological age indicators like inflammation(炎症) levels. While physical decline is certain, psychological (心理的) factors also play a key role. Aging experts note that just as bodies change with time, minds follow predictable patterns.
In the 1990s, Stanford researcher Laura Carstensen studied how psychology changes with age. Young people, considering time as limitless, prioritize exploration — learning, socializing, and forming new connections. This encourages enthusiasm but also impulsivity(冲动) and emotional weakness. In contrast, older adults, aware of life’s being limited, shift toward seeking meaning, emotional depth, and sharing wisdom.
Yet individual differences exist. Some people remain “young at heart”, while others adopt older behaviors in advance. Research shows these differences matter: a lower subjective age correlates (相互关联) with better health, longer life expectancy, and reduced inflammation — a key indicator of disease.
So, what determines subjective age While genetics and lifestyle contribute, mindset appears crucial. Older adults who stay socially active, learn new skills, and maintain purpose report feeling younger.
The good news is that subjective age is malleable (可塑的). Simple habits — like adopting hobbies, maintaining relationships, or practicing gratitude — can reframe one’s insight into time. Feeling younger isn’t just about optimism; it’s a practical strategy for healthier aging.
Actually, aging isn’t only a biological process but a psychological journey. By focusing on what truly matters — connection, growth, and purpose, we might not stop the clock, but we can certainly make it tick differently.
12. What does paragraph 1 tell us
A. Inflammation levels don’t decide age at all.
B. How old we feel doesn’t affect our health and lifespan.
C. The reality of aging can make people lose the purpose of life.
D. Age is a mirror of mental attitude; brave it, and it reflects energy.
13. Which do young people consider as important
A. Emotional stability.
B. Financial security.
C. New challenges.
D. Social status.
14. A lower subjective age may lead to ______.
A. shorter life expectancy
B. poorer health
C. lower social interaction
D. fewer diseases
15. What is the best title for the text
A. Give in to Your Age
B. Keep a Healthy Lifestyle
C. Don’t Act Your Age
D What Is Subjective Age
第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分)
In Australia, November is the final exam season, and for high school students, it’s one of the most important exam periods. It is a stressful time for everyone. However, from my countless exam experiences, ____16____.
Start early. The official exam preparation period starts about one week before the final exam period. ____17____. Let’s admit it, after being bombarded(轰炸) by countless assignments and tests, no one in the final weeks of the semester will have much memory of the content taught in week one. I usually go through the notes I took throughout the semester to refresh my memory. ____18____, so that I can catch up, ask the teachers questions when they are not busy and be better prepared for the practice exams that we do later. At the very least, it gives me a sense of control. This can be very important when you are overwhelmed by content and feel unmotivated!
Live healthily. A lot of people stay up late reviewing content before the exam, but this is not healthy at all. Sleep is necessary to restore our physical and mental functions. In particular, ____19____. I recommend this based on my personal experience. I always feel exhausted the next day if I go to sleep after 1 am. Without enough sleep, I cannot stay productive. Sacrificing sleep time for reviewing is no worth it. We need time to relax.
____20____. This may not work for everyone, but I personally find it helpful. Having friends to study with not only provides us with opportunities to figure out blind spots in our understanding but also allows us to have different perspectives, which is helpful in terms of problem-solving. Also, the presence of friends can motivate me to stay positive, and talking to them can ease my anxiety caused by exams.

D. It can make me stuck on difficult questions
E. But I usually begin my review about two weeks earlier
