Dune
Only big screens can actually match Frank Herbert’s science-fiction works. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune is a sad film about super powered young heroes on a desert planet. It runs for 155 minutes, but still only covers the first half of the book. A large amount of money is spent on the film, and the cast (演员阵容) is packed with big names.
Antlers
The frightening story of this film is from native American tales about Wendigo. The director, Scott Cooper, asked Professor Grace L Dillon, the most famous expert on the subject, “I was told that it may not be an unreal story for native Americans,” Cooper said. “They truly believe in it, and it means greed (贪婪) and cruelty when we robbed all the resources from the locals.”
The French Dispatch
The 10th film by Wes Anderson, a writer-director, brings great joy to his fans. In this film, he takes his careful style to new extreme. Behind all these carefully prepared skills is a collection of three funny short stories, which are set in a French town probably from the magazine New Yorker in the mid-20th century.
Ron’s Gone Wrong
The cartoon is a family comedy (喜剧). Its hero, Barney, is given what seems to be a perfect toy — a shiny robot which is programmed to be his friend. But the problem is that this, robot, hardly works at all. The film’s co-writer and co-director, Sarah Smith, said, “It is completely out of control and doesn’t follow Barney’s directions. So they have to build their relationship from that point.”
1 Who is the author of Dune
A. Wes Anderson. B. Denis Villeneuve.
C. Frank Herbert. D. Sarah Smith.
2. Which film probably makes viewers feel afraid
A. Antlers. B. Ron’s Gone Wrong.
C. Dune. D. The French Dispatch.
3. What do The French Dispatch and Ron’s Gone Wrong have in common
A. They have the most famous stars. B. They bring much pleasure to viewers.
C. They are composed of small stories. D. They are set in a French town.

A man sat at a metro station in Washington D.C. and started to play the violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time since it was rush hour, 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.
Three minutes went by, and a middle-aged man noticed there was musician playing. A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him. They stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet their schedule.
The one who paid the most attention was a 3-year-old boy. His mother followed him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.
In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded(鼓掌), nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most beautiful pieces ever written, on a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.
Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theatre in Boston where the seats averaged $100.
This is a real story. Joshua Bell’s playing in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment.
One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written how many other things are we missing

A. To tell us the importance of music.
B. To show us how to play music.
C. To set us to think about our life.
D. To report a subway performance.

Humans are very social creatures. In addition to verbal (语言的) communication, we also use our bodies to help us better express our thoughts and feelings. This non-verbal communication is known as body language.
Body language includes things like facial expressions, eye contact and posture (姿势). It actually developed as a form of communication before humans could speak or write. We can tell a lot about what a person is thinking or feeling just by looking at them.
In fact, body language is so common that you may not even realize that you are communicating many messages to others every day without even using words. For example, you might move your head from side to side to express the word “no” instead of actually saying the word. Or, you might give a “thumbs (拇指) up” to show that you like or agree with something.
But now that we are spending more time online, we may not have as many in-person interactions as before. Because of this, our means of non-verbal communication has changed, but is still an important way to express our thoughts.
Our “digital body language” is becoming increasingly important as we change how we communicate. Instead of using voice messages, we can video chat with our friends to show them our smiling face. Another way to express our emotions digitally is through emojis (表情符号). When we are communicating online, we are only revealing the content and leaving out tones and facial expressions. That’s when emojis can help in communication.
Whether using video chat to show our expression or sending an emoji, don’t forget the importance of digital body language and non-verbal communication.
8. What does the author mean by saying “Humans are very social creatures”
A. Humans like living in groups. B. Humans need to communicate.
C. Humans depend on each other. D. Humans differ from other beings.
9. Why are the two examples mentioned in Paragraph 3
A. To explain how to express no. B. To prove how much one likes something.
C. To demonstrate how to communicate messages. D. To show how much we underestimate body language.
10. What makes digital body language more and more important
A. The way of communication. B. The voice messages we use.
C. The time we spend online. D. The invention of emojis.
11. How can emojis help in communication
A. By revealing the content. B. By helping us video chat.
C. By expressing our emotions. D. By leaving out facial expressions.
D
With the increasing use of social networking, instant messaging and online communication, students are becoming connected to more and more people. However, some students are less often interacting (互动) face to face with people around them, and some key communication and teamwork skills are being left behind. Despite the growth of online communication, direct communication will always be important and necessary.
There are many group work tasks you can give to teach teamwork to students and allow them to practice their positive communication with each other. To teach students teamwork, however, you need to emphasize the importance of teamwork and also what skills they will need to communicate effectively and work well in a team.
The most important is that students need to listen, first of all so that other students can speak without being interrupted and secondly so that all students know what is being discussed and where the conversation is heading.
Of course people do need to speak in groups, to give their own ideas and to give feedback to other people’s ideas. Lots of students have no trouble talking to their friends. But to work effectively in students of a group, they have to learn how to talk effectively to the whole group. When speaking, students need to express their ideas clearly and get to the point so that they are easily understood.
To participate in teamwork, students need confidence. They need to express their ideas confidently and accept negative feedback from other students in the group without being too offended to continue. Building a student’s confidence can be a long process but the more group work your students take part in, the more they learn about how to listen and speak effectively, and their confidence towards working in teams will improve.
There are many other skills you can discuss to teach teamwork to students including respect, leadership and assignment of roles and responsibilities.
12. Why do some students lack teamwork skills according to the author
A. They spend too much time on the Internet.
B. They have no time to take part in teamwork.
C. They only connect with their best friends.
D. They don’t know the importance of teamwork.
13. How can students get their confidence in teamwork according to the text
A. By joining in group work.
B. By leading a group.
C. By showing respect.
D. By turning to the Internet.
14. Which of the following does the author pay little attention to
A. Listening. B. Speaking.
C. Trust. D. Confidence.
15. Who is the text written for
A. Healthcare experts. B. Movie actors.
C. Students. D. Teachers.

People often have a tough time dealing with their feelings of disappointment. That is when you should give them time and understanding and he or she just might come around before long.
I remember talking with my friend Avery about the coming school play Alices Adventure in Wonderland, which we both applied for. Avery had a talent for acting and she was anxious for playing Alice while for me I didn’t care what part I played as long as I would be in. However, when character list was posted, we were surprised to find that I got the part of Alice and Avery was chosen to act the rabbit. I guessed it was because I hadn’t been nervous at all during the audition (试演). But that situation really didn’t occur to me.
Then I asked Avery, “Do you want to come over after school and we can practice our lines ” “You mean, practice your lines ” Avery replied, not even looking at me. “No, thanks. I’m pretty busy this week.” I continued to ask if it would be OK for next week but her answer was negative and full of anger.
That night at dinner, after my parents congratulated me on getting the lead role, they asked how I felt. “Well, I can’t understand.” I said and told them about Avery’s reaction and I believed that she pretty much threw away our friendship.
“Hmm,” said my dad. “Arizona, don’t you think this might be an opportunity for you to be an extra-good friend ” “Dad’s right,” added my mom. “Sometimes when our friends do well, we feel envious (羡慕的) and don’t know how to act. Try giving her a little time and understanding. She’ll come around.”
Over the next week, I did my best to give Avery some space. I practised my lines but I knew I needed some help since my voice was not expressive enough. Day by day, Avery’s attitude seemed softened. As the rehearsal (彩排) day was near, I made a decision.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

We’ll take part in the music festival in the school hall next Friday afternoon. In the music festival, we invite some famous singers and pianists to perform, who will also give some lessons to the students. In addition, some students can have a chance to cooperate with these musicians. As a music fan, you are bound to learn a lot in the festival.
If possible, you are welcome to perform in the festival, which will be a great experience. Hopefully, you can take part in it and don’t miss the chance.
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】One day after school in the rehearsal room, I approached Avery. “Hey, Avery,” I said. “I was wondering if you could help me with my lines. I know you’re busy, but I really need your help.” Avery looked up at me and smiled. “Sure, I’d be happy to help.” We spent the next hour going over my lines and she gave me some great advice on how to make my performance more expressive. I was so grateful for her help and I could tell that she was happy to be able to help me.
Then came the big day. We both performed our parts perfectly and the audience was thrilled. After the show, Avery and I hugged each other and thanked each other for our help. I was so glad that I had given her time and understanding, and that she had come around. From then on, we were even better friends than before.
