High school is a time of great change and growth. For many students, it’s the first time they have to manage their own studies, make new friends, and balance different activities. Here are some practical tips to help you make the most of your high school years.
First, develop good study habits. Unlike middle school, high school courses are more challenging. It’s important to take notes in class, review them regularly, and finish homework on time. You can also create a study schedule to avoid cramming (临时抱佛脚) before exams.
Second, build meaningful relationships. High school is a great place to meet people with similar interests. Join clubs or sports teams that you like. Not only will you make friends, but you’ll also learn teamwork and leadership skills. Remember to be kind and respectful to others — friendships take time to grow.
Finally, take care of yourself. Getting enough sleep, eating healthy food, and exercising regularly are essential for your physical and mental health. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you make mistakes — high school is a learning process, and everyone grows at their own pace.

Recently, videos of using AI to select watermelons go viral on social media, claiming the technology can pick sweet fruit. As watermelon season approaches, many people find buying a watermelon like opening a surprise box. Will it be a dud To put AI to the test, a reporter from visited a store in Changsha, Central China’s Hunan Province to conduct an experiment. The reporter took photos and numbered eight watermelons, which allowed for clear identification and comparison later, and then had AI select the sweetest one.
One AI software program admitted it couldn’t judge sweetness of the numbered watermelons. “Usually, methods to determine the sweetness of a watermelon include observing the appearance, weight, and sound of the watermelon. Tapping (拍) the watermelon can also be used to determine its sweetness.” the AI software explained.
Another gave tips on what to look for in choosing a sweet watermelon. “Based on the shape of the watermelon, rounder watermelons usually indicate a more uniform internal structure, which may be a sign of higher sweetness. In the image, watermelons 1 and 8 look rounder and larger, indicating higher sweetness. However, the final sweetness needs to be confirmed by taste,” the AI software said. Following the AI’s recommendation, the reporter decided to put these two to the test. After cutting open watermelons 1 and 8, both were red and juicy, but watermelon 1 was slightly sweeter.
So, is using AI to pick fruit dependable According to an AI expert, AI can provide helpful suggestions based on visual and base knowledge, but it’s not absolutely right. While AI can be a useful tool for those unsure how to choose a melon, experienced individuals may still rely on traditional methods like tapping and smelling. Eventually, the decision on which watermelon to choose may still come down to personal preference and practical experience.
24.What does the underlined word “dud” in paragraph 1 mean

D. It considered the shape unimportant.

A. It confirmed sweetness via sound.
B. It showed three selection methods.
C. It offered weight-based tips.
D. It linked sweetness to sizes.
27.What is the author’s attitude toward AI picking melons
A. Objective. B. Negative. C. Worried. D. Unclear.

The ancient ritual(仪式的) meaning of Stonehenge ts still unknown, but researchers are one step closer to understanding how the famous stone circle was created.
The special stone tying flat at the center of Stonehenge was brought to the site in southern England from near the tip of northeast Scotland, researchers reported Wednesday in the journal Nature. It's not clear whether the 5-meter stone was carried by boat or across land-a journey of more than 740 kilometers. For more than a hundred years, scientists believed that Stonehenge's central sandstone-long called the"altar stone"-came from much closer Wales. But a study last year by some of the same researchers showed that the stone didn't match the geology(地质)of Wales' sandstone fornatioms. The actuat source of the stone remained unknown.
Although the team was not allowed to take the rocks from the site tor the study, they studied the minerals in small pieces of rocks that were collected in past digs, some from as far back as the 1840s.They found a match in the sandstone formations of Orcadian Basin in northeast Scotland,a place that includes parts of the tip of the Scottish peninsula as well as the Orkney Islands. The difficult work of moving the stone such a long way shows a high level of teamwork and cultural connection between these two places of ancient Britain.Stonehenge was built around 5,000 years ago, with stones forming different circles brought to the site at different times. The placement of stones allows for the sun to rise through a stone"window"during summer solstice(夏至) The ancient purpose of the altar stone-which lies flat at the heart of Stonehenge, now under other rocks—remains unknown to us.
Former research has shown cultural connections-such as similarities in pottery(陶器) styles—between the area around Stonehenge and Scotland's Orkney Islands.Other stones at Stonehenge came from western Wales. While Britain is full of other Neolithic stone circles, the thing that's special about Stonehenge is the distance the stones traveled.
28.What is the researchers' new finding about Stonehenge? ______

The teacher's hand froze in the middle of writing something on the blackboard and the whole class laughed, when Mohi rushed into the classroom.Having recovered from his initial shock, the teacher turned around to face the rest of the students.Gradually, the laughter died out.
"Sorry," Mohi said quickly and hurried to his seat.
Mohi was jokingly called "little Einstein" by his classmates, because he was so absent-minded that he rarely showed up with appropriate clothing.Today,he wore a pair of funny green shoes that were too big for his feet. And his half-buttoned shirt revealed a very silly red underwear.Actually,Mohi's classmates always looked forward to such moments that helped to brighten up their otherwise boring school life.
Although his classmates found Mohi amusing, they ignored him most of the time. And Mohi seemed too absorbed in his own thoughts to care about making friends with them, either.Mohi's only friend was Hamed, who sat beside him.
One day,Mohi did not show up at school. After school,Hamed decided to walk over to Mohi's house to check on him.As he approached the gate,he could hear violin music. "Mohi has never played music at school," he thought. "Maybe,he is listening to a record."
He called Mohi's name several times but there was no response. As the gate was not locked,Hamed let himself in.His eyes widened in surprise:At the center of the living room,Mohi was lost in playing the violin. With his eyes tightly closed,Mohi played so beautifully that the music seemed like coming from a classic record.

When Teachers' Day came around
a good idea occurred to Hamed. It was the tradition of the class to have a concert for their teachers on Teachers' Day and every student could volunteer to play his or her favorite music in front of the class.Hamed shared his idea with Mohi.At first,Mohi was unwilling to play. After Hamed told him how talented he was in music,Mohi eventually agreed to have a try.
The teachers and students were surprised to see Mohi walk onto the stage with a violin. They had never seen him play any instrument or sing a song in public. But as soon as he started to play, they fell silent. As the last note ended, there was a moment of silence, which was followed by thunderous applause. After the applause died down,Mohi cleared his throat and said shyly, "Thanks to my teachers and classmates for tolerating my absent-mindedness.Thanks to Hamed who always tries to see the best side of me."
