Welcome to “Cash Poor Points Rich”, a new travel blog dedicated to sharing experiences with credit card points and miles to help you get big travel at small expense. With the right planning and maximization of available resources, traveling as a college student may be easier than you think.
  Chengdu, China
If visiting a place with happy locals is a priority for you, there's no better city to hit than Chengdu. It is home to pandas and spicy things. Moreover, the city's abundance of cultural and historical sights, together with its laid-back lifestyle, make itself one of the most attractive and livable large cities too. Past travelers have spent, on average,¥160 on meals and about a quarter of that on local transportation for one day.
  Con Dao Islands, Vietnam
Tourism is picking up in Vietnam lately, where you can travel for about ¥100 per day if you play your cards right. Con Dao National Park, a group of dramatic tiny islands off the southern coast, is a great destination to see sea turtles and other wildlife while exploring the area on foot. Its thick jungle will give you a good chance to uncover a paradise of your own.
  Zakynthos Island, Greece
If you're looking for an affordable European summer beach vacation, consider Zakynthos Island. Food is cheap and mouthwatering. There are plenty of free things to do, although the favorite is spending time on the beautiful beaches edged by electric blue water. There are countless options for swimming in the appealing sea, along with charming villages and museums to explore.

During the Spring Festival, “Ne Zha 2” became a really popular animated movie. The cinema attendance rate was over 90%. When Ne Zha and Ao Bing fought hard against Wuliang Xianwong, the cool sound effects made me feel like I was right there in the movie. Suddenly, I thought of a question: How did they make these great sounds Because I was curious, I went home and started looking for answers. Then I learned about the interesting world of Foley artists.
The name “Foley” comes from Jack Foley. He did a lot for the art of sound effects. When sound effects were first added to movies, he came up with a new way to make them. He recorded sounds on one track and added them to the actions in the movie.
Foley artists are like sound magicians. They make movies more lively. Their workplaces look simple, but there are lots of tools. They can use normal things to make great sound effects. For example, shaking an umbrella can sound like a strong storm. Hitting two parts of a coconut(椰子) can sound like a horse's walking. Even though Foley artists work behind the scenes, working with actors is very important. Jack Foley said, “You have to act out the scene. You have to be like the actors and understand the story just like they do on the set. It makes a big difference.”
In general, paying attention to small things is very important to Foley artists. They also need to be able to make sounds by themselves. This needs creativity and imagination. Getting the perfect sound takes a lot of tries. So, being patient is also important. To make the sound of a character running in the mud, Foley artists have to try many different things and keep changing how they step.
When I learned more, I was sad to find out that there are only about 100 Foley artists working around the world. Foley work is great for movies, but there are so few artists now. Maybe it will become a dying art. But I'm glad that with virtual reality getting better, Foley work might change. Next time you watch a movie, listen carefully to the little sounds. They are like secret messages from Foley artists, telling us they are there.
24.Why did the author start to learn about Foley artists
A.Because “Ne Zha 2” was very popular.
B.Because the sound effects in “Ne Zha 2” were cool.
C.Because the author wanted to become a Foley artist.
D.Because the author was curious about how movie sound effects were made.

D.He made the first animated movie.
26.What is very important to Foley artists according to the passage
A.Being able to act in movies.
B.Paying attention to small details.
C.Working alone without others' help.
D.Having a lot of money to buy tools.
27.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Foley work will disappear soon.
B.There will be more Foley artists in the future.
C.Virtual reality will replace Foley artists completely.
D.Foley work may develop in a new way with virtual reality.

Nowadays, more stores and restaurants are not accepting cash as a means of payment. Instead, customers must pay with a credit card, or by smartphone apps.
Many business owners say that being cashless has helped them streamline the way their businesses run. Staff members don't have to think about having enough money in the cash register to give change or taking bills and coins to the bank.
However, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, more than 8 million households in the United States don't have bank accounts. Also, many people, including kids, don't meet the requirements for a credit card.
“A cashless economy is not an inclusive economy. There are consumers who can't get a credit card because of low income. When stores refuse to accept cash, they exclude low-income or homeless people,” says Tazra Mitchell, policy director at the DC Fiscal Policy Institute.
Plus people who do have credit cards might prefer to pay in cash. “Cash is used by almost eight in ten people in the US every month. That's more than the percentage of any other payment type,” says Nick Bourke, director of the Pew Charitable Trusts' consumer finance project.
Lawmakers in several places have taken steps to ban cashless stores. A handful of major cities—including New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania—have already passed laws to address the problem. In San Francisco, California, a law banning cashless stores was passed last May. It says most stores in the city must allow customers to pay in cash. Derek Remski helped make the San Francisco law. Remski says, “It's about understanding that not everyone has equal access to things.”
28.What does the underlined word “streamline” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Record. B.Simplify.
C.Redevelop. D.Understand.
29.What does Tazra Mitchell think of a cashless economy
A.It is unfair to some people.
B.It is enjoyed by bank workers.
C.It is advantageous to customers.
D.It is the result of the marketplace.
30.What can we learn from paragraph 5
A.Cashless stores will be driven out of the market.
B.Stores should allow more than one payment type.
C.Paying with credit cards has its own disadvantages.
D.Cash payment is still very popular with consumers.
31.What is some cities' attitude towards going cashless
A.They fight it.
B.They encourage it.
C.They care little about it.
D.They are hopeful about it.

Fish's well-being is a primary topic in fish farming. Therefore, it is important to see the fish as individuals, rather than just a group. Researchers have used camera technology combined with AI to measure and analyze the breathing rates of individual fish, which provides them with valuable information about their well-being.
In the research project, the researchers have developed a way of analyzing signs of stress and other factors. Using AI, they can recognize the fish and analyze their breathing movements at the same time. The camera technology is able to observe the breath of a fish because it can see its mouth from the side. So the newly developed technology gives the researchers a “digital eye”, which makes it possible to follow numerous fish at the same time.
The researchers have carried out experiments, where they tracked nine fish tubs(缸), each containing seven fish. The breathing rates of all the fish were then analyzed under three different temperature patterns(模式), as well as with different oxygen levels in the water. They could see exactly how the breathing of the fish changed in stressful situations or in the event of changes in oxygen levels or water temperature. They found that lower oxygen levels caused the fish to breathe more rapidly and saw the same response when they increased the water temperature. Stress also led to an increase in the breathing rate.
The study has contributed to a new understanding of the breathing rates that can be regarded as normal and those that can be considered to show that something may be wrong. However, the researchers also found that the breathing rates of the individual fish vary and some of them breathe more slowly or faster than others. The new technology, which records each fish individually, enables them to see whether the breathing rate of some fish changes, while that of others does not.
32.What is the significance of the newly developed technology
A.It helps farmers feed fish more properly.
B.It enables researchers to focus on individual fish.
C.It makes it possible for farmers to locate specific fish.
D.It allows researchers to control water temperature more easily.
33.What did the researchers find in the experiments
A.Fish in different tubs had the same breathing patterns.
B.Higher water temperature made fish breathe more rapidly.
C.Fish could adapt quickly to the stressful environment.
D.Changes in oxygen levels had no effect on fish's breathing.
34.What does the discovery about breathing rate variations imply
A.Group-based studies remain more efficient.
B.AI technology can't account for biodiversity.
C.One standard for a fish's well-being doesn't work for all.
D.Water quality factors matter more to fish than individual differences.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.The Future of Fish Farming
B.Advanced Methods Promote Fish's Well-Being
C.New Technology Uncovers Details about Fish's Well-Being
D.The Importance of Observing Oxygen Levels in Fish Farming

Low-carbon living is about fighting climate change by saving resources and reducing the emission(排放) of greenhouse gases. After all, a healthier planet is also healthier for us! 36 Besides turning off lights and recycling paper and plastics, there's still a lot more we can do.
Check before you buy. Not all electrical devices are designed for ideal energy efficiency. Even if two rice cookers share the same features, the amount of energy they require to run on may be different. 37 Check for energy labels(标签) when we're buying energy-efficient products!
Shut electrical equipment off. 38 Turning off your computer beyond working hours for a month is equal to charging your phone 1,000 times. Reducing your monitor brightness by 20% for a day also matters much. Shutting off unused lights and TV during non-working hours for a year can save a lot of energy.
39 Transportation is the second largest source of greenhouse gases, and we all know the environmental benefits of using public transport. But if you need a private vehicle, there are also low-carbon options. For example, electric vehicles (EVs) produce zero emissions.
Treat e-waste properly. Responsible waste management is key to a green lifestyle, and one type of waste is often ignored: e-waste. Discarded(丢弃的) devices can cause disasters to the environment and our health, as they contain poisonous chemicals. 40
A.Say no to private vehicles.
B.Travel in a wiser and smarter way.
C.Do you often leave your computer on after work
D.By reducing our carbon footprint, we'll have a cleaner world.
E.That means you're paying extra for the same functions performed.
F.Why not give them a second life by gifting them to those in need
G.Instead of throwing them around, bring them to special recycling points.

Last Saturday, I drove back home from a long hard day. It was snowing heavily and the traffic inched slowly forward like snails. I was so hungry because I skipped my lunch that I decided to stop by KFC and had a quick bite before I continued my journey home. It took me a long time to find a place to park my car. With my face buried in my collar, I walked slowly in the snow. Soon my hands were numb(麻木的) with cold, so I pulled my gloves out of my coat pocket and put them on.
I ordered some fried chicken and dug into my pocket for my wallet to pay, only to find it was not there! I remembered I did bring it with me before I set out. Embarrassed, I left the chicken on the counter and said I would return in a minute. Deeply worried, I got out of KFC and ran towards my car, wondering where my wallet, with everything in it, was.
Fresh snow was like a blank paper, recording my tracks. My attention fixed on the ground, I expected to find it on my way. Unfortunately, what I found was only the shape of it in the snow. Obviously, I lost it when I pulled my gloves out. Judging from the footprints on the ground, I was not the only one. There was someone else joining my way. But the footprints of this guy were messy. It seemed that he walked back and forth. My heart sank. At a loss for which way he went, I knew I could never claim my wallet back. Bye, fried chicken, not today. I walked towards my car helplessly.
A short, skinny man was standing by my car. He seemed like homeless because he was dressed in an oversized worn-out coat and his face was dirty. He was stamping his feet to keep warm. I felt sorry for him because I had nothing to help him, no money, no food.

Refusing my money, he was about to leave.

根据第一段中的“Therefore, it is important to see the fish as individuals, rather than just a group. Researchers have used camera technology combined with AI...valuable information about their well-being.”
根据第三段中的“They found that lower oxygen levels caused the fish to breathe more rapidly and saw the same response when they increased the water temperature.”

故填was listed。
transform...into... 故填into。
a limited number of... 故填a。
ability to do sth.
故填has accompanied。

One possible version:
The man noticed me and asked if this was my car. Surprised as I was, I nodded, waiting for what he was going to say. He seemed excited, directly coming closer and quickly taking out a wallet, which I knew was mine at a glance. I couldn't stop staring at the surprising packet. I knew I wouldn't say goodbye to my fried chicken today. But first, I needed to show my sincere gratitude to the good soul, who must have stayed in the cold for long just to find the owner. I opened my wallet, pulled out two banknotes and delivered them to him as my thankfulness. However, he just smiled, shaking his head.
Refusing my money, he was about to leave. Seeing him disappearing in the distance gradually, I finally made up my mind to stop him and asked him to wait a minute. I grabbed the money, rushed to the counter and ordered two portions of fried chicken. On heading back, I slipped the package into his hand, inviting him to enjoy the food together. We exchanged our thoughts a lot as we were eating and laughing. It was on that night that I came to realize that there are always people who try to help others despite their own trouble.
