Ice Magic Festival, Canada
The Ice Magic Festival has been taking place in Lake Louise for over 20 years. The competition runs from January 29 to February 2 in 2025. It's funny—as a writer, it's easy to share your knowledge, or your personal stories with an unknown listener of many. You think your friends may not read your articles. But as I began to talk more openly about Chinese traditions and food, I learned that they were interested, curious and really hungered for them. Their interest and curiosity grew and the culmination of their interest and curiosity was this past Spring Festival. They would like to spend Spring Festival Eve with me. I accepted their request. It was an inconvenient Monday. I'd never had Spring Festival Eve when anyone but my father cooked.
I took the day off for the dinner preparation. I drove 45 minutes out of town to a Cantonese BBQ shop where I bought a whole roast duck and watched, fascinated, as it was changed into bite-size pieces. I shopped at a faraway international market like a madwoman, looking for Chinese vegetables and other food that would be new to my guests. I called my dad, asking for some pointers on how to make dishes I'd never made. I texted him pictures of the sea fish I picked out, and the red clothing they threw on for luck.
In just a few hours, I cooked a dinner of 15 dishes for six friends who cared enough about me and my culture and came over on a cold winter Monday night to celebrate my tradition with me. We drank, ate and toasted the beautiful night. Laughter of joy filled my room. And that night, I felt what it was to be loved for our culture as well as our food.

25.What did the author do in the BBQ shop
A.She took a roast duck.
B.She ate a whole roast duck.

26.What does the second paragraph mainly talk about
A.The shops the author went to.
B.The author's love of Chinese food.
C.The author's preparation for dinner.
D.The suggestions the author's father gave.
27.What can we learn about the author from the text
A.She is a madwoman.
B.She is living with her father.
C.She is a world-famous writer.
D.She is proud of Chinese culture.

As the new year approaches, crowds around the world may expect colorful fireworks to light up the sky with bright flashes and loud booms. However, the attraction of fireworks could fade away with the growing use of drones(无人机) for light shows.
Ollie Howitt, a leader of one of the world's leading drone light show companies, which used a team of 300 drones to put on a display for London's new year celebration last year, said that the demand for drone shows had increased greatly. “We do believe these shows will gain wider popularity, instead of just being a short-lived kind of fashion. Drones are reusable and leave no harmful waste after use. In that sense, they become a good and eco-friendly choice,” she explained.
But not everyone agrees. A spokesperson from the British Fireworks Association warned that drones could also cause environmental problems. “Suggestions are that drones have less impact on the environment, but we have serious concerns about the electrical demand and use of lithium batteries(锂电池) which are known not to be all that green,” they said.
An RSPCA spokesperson also mentioned that while drones were a possible idea to try to reduce the impact of displays on animals, there were problems. Drones are not without their own negative issues such as scaring horses or crashing into birds, and may bother animals and members of the public. Therefore, it's important to carefully consider their possible effects and take proper measures to reduce the chance of accidents.
Some express the opinion that fireworks and drones don't exclude each other. The sight, sound and gunpowder smell of fireworks will always provide their own unique thrill.
“We find fireworks work really well when teamed up with drones. But we don't really see it as a one-replacing-the-other at all. We feel as if it's just another tool for how you enliven the sky and what you want to do with the show you're putting on,” said Howitt, noting that while fireworks give a loud, emotive and big performance, drones offer the chance to tell stories in the sky by using a series of images.
28.What does Howitt think of a drone display in paragraph 2
A.It's definitely an upward trend.
B.It'll get us to reflect on the energy crisis.
C.It's nothing but a short-term phenomenon.
D.It'll excite public curiosity about science.
29.Which of the following is not the problem of using drones for light shows compared with fireworks
A.Using high electricity.
B.Causing trouble to the public.
C.Worsening environmental problems.
D.Bothering animals like horses and birds.
30.Which of the following might Howitt suggest according to the last paragraph
A.Limiting the displays of fireworks.
B.Diversifying the functions of drones.
C.Promoting the production of drones.
D.Staging drone shows as another choice.
31.In which part of a website can we read this text
A.Health. B.Environment.
C.Business. D.Advertisement.

Life is busy. We're always expected to be productive and engaged, whether that's with parenting, housework, or work. While taking time for small rewards can feel like a luxury(难得的享受), the truth is that it is necessary for improving our mental health. A key psychological idea behind this is the Premack Principle, which explains why treating ourselves is more than a tendency; it's a way to improve our daily lives.
In the 1960s, American psychologist David Premack developed a theory now known as the Premack Principle. He explained that doing something you're more likely to do can be a reward for doing something you don't actually want to do. For instance, if you finish a task you're not interested in, like cleaning the bathroom, you can treat yourself to something you like, such as watching an episode of your favorite TV show. This approach takes advantage of our natural need for fun to help us get through tasks we might not enjoy.
Recent studies keep showing that giving yourself rewards can help improve your work and happiness. For example, Woolley and Fishbach discovered that getting rewards right away can make you more motivated because it links the reward directly with the task. What's interesting is that it's not how big the reward is but how quickly you get it that matters. Another study by Landry and others found it's not the reward itself but rather how the reward makes people feel that helps them do their best. This makes sense because rewards boost our dopamine(多巴胺) levels, which plays a key role in how our brains feel pleasure.
The idea of giving ourselves “little treats” is not just about enjoying something; it's proof of how positive reinforcement can change our behavior and make us feel better mentally. By carefully using the Premack Principle and rewarding ourselves, we can find more motivation(动力) to face challenges and lead a happier life. It's okay to recognize and celebrate our efforts, big or small.
So, go ahead, give yourself that little treat. You've earned it.
32.What is the Premack Principle
A.A tool to work out a long-term plan.
B.A way to complete tasks effectively.
C.A means to make boring tasks enjoyable.
D.A theory to explain how rewards improve happiness.
33.According to Woolley and Fishbach, what helps to improve motivation
A.The type of tasks.
B.The immediate reward.
C.The size of the reward.
D.The level of dopamine.
34.What might be “positive reinforcement” according to paragraph 4
A.A clean-up.
B.Physical training.
C.A graduation ceremony.
D.A favourite snack.
35.What is the most suitable title for the text
A.The Importance of Productivity
B.Motivation and Mental Health
C.The Premack Principle for Life
D.Dopamine and the Brain's Pleasure

In higher education, 21st-century librarians are seeing a redefinition of their roles. Universities are also taking a new look at library buildings. But whether their purpose is to host a creativity workshop or old-fashioned bookshelves, one thing is clear: 36 .
Libraries meet students' new needs, digitally
To support modern research, libraries will need to offer students access to the digital versions of scholarly(学术的) research, much of which now includes complex data sets and visualization(可视化内容). Ringling College of Art and Design set out to create a library that would better provide its students with the services they actually need. 37 .
  Easily adjustable workspaces promote cooperation
38 . Most commonly, universities are redesigning libraries to make them suitable for cooperation—meaning open, social spaces where small and large groups can gather and share materials. For example, Norwich University in Vermont sought to create more high-tech collaboration spaces in its library by designing 11 group study rooms that have movable furniture.
Modern libraries need digitally informed librarians
In today's university culture, librarians are of great importance to ensuring students have a solid understanding of the digital resources they are using for academic work. 39 . Changes of this kind are also influencing the way that universities teach the next generation of librarians. At the University of Michigan, a new library science program will create education models that help future librarians complete the difficult tasks of supporting researchers.
Digital tools give libraries staying power
40 . However, the long-term existence of university libraries is assured. By embracing digital tools and creating adjustable spaces, libraries will continue to be connected with colleges. In fact, the new-generation libraries of tomorrow are likely to be much more effective in serving students' quests for knowledge and understanding.
A.University libraries are here to stay
B.Librarians are going to lose their jobs
C.Technology contributes greatly to the survival of libraries
D.One must-have feature, for example, is a 24-hour computer lab
E.For example, librarians can help students get better at searching for reliable information
F.Changing study habits also give libraries an opportunity to redesign their physical spaces
G.Some people predicted that the next generation would witness the death of printed books

Last year, I traveled from the US to my childhood village in Zimbabwe for the Christmas holiday.
The whole village feels very much like one happy family get-together when people from nearby cities or neighboring countries celebrate the festive season in their childhood homes.
On Christmas Day, I woke up to the familiar(熟悉的) sound of my mother calling my name and knocking on my door. As is morning tradition on that day, everyone was preparing gifts for the festival. I quickly put on my favourite clothes. Along with my parents and two brothers, we walked a little more than a mile to the small village store. On our way there, my brother wisely advised me to ask for drinks as goods were likely to run out because of high need from the holiday.
When I stepped into that familiar small store that still smells of childhood, it looked as if it were frozen in time. The shelves were stocked with the same village basics—cooking oil, salt, bread, candy, milk, stationery, matches, candles...
As I was placing my drink orders, two young boys about 5 and 8 years old walked in with big smiles. Their clothes were oversized, old and tattered(破烂的).
The older brother emptied his pockets, placed a handful of coins on the counter(柜台), and cheerfully explained they had been sent to buy food for Christmas. He asked for “two loaves of bread, cooking oil, milk and...” Before he could finish, the younger brother added, “Our mother said we could buy candy with the change.”
“It is only 24c change left. What would you like to buy ” said the shopkeeper.

The two boys clapped hands(拍手), a traditional way of saying thanks to me.

根据International Snow Sculpture Championships, America部分中的“Teams of artists from around the world must compete to carve 25-ton blocks of snow into works of art themselves. There are no power tools allowed!”
根据Kiruna Snow Festival, Sweden部分中的“But there are plenty of activities to keep visitors busy during the competition, including sledding, figure skating and a snowblower contest”可知,在基律纳冰雪节期间,游客可以进行乘雪橇、花样滑冰等活动。故选A。
根据International Snow Sculpture Championships, America部分中的“Teams of artists from around the world must compete to carve 25-ton blocks of snow into works of art themselves.”、Kiruna Snow Festival, Sweden部分中的“The main part of the festival is a snow sculpting competition that includes artists from around the world.”以及Ice Magic Festival, Canada部分中的“The competition runs from...”
根据第二段中的“I drove 45 minutes out of town to a Cantonese BBQ shop where I bought a whole roast duck”可知,作者在一家广式烧烤店买了一只烤鸭。故选A。
根据第二段首句“I took the day off for the dinner preparation.”并结合后面内容与食物相关的表述“I bought a whole roast duck”“looking for Chinese vegetables and other food”“asking for some pointers on how to make dishes”等可知,本段描述了作者准备晚餐的过程。
根据最后一段最后一句“And that night, I felt what it was to be loved for our culture as well as our food.”

根据第二段中的“We do believe these shows will gain wider popularity, instead of just being a short-lived kind of fashion.” 故选A。
根据第三段中的“Suggestions are that drones have less impact on the environment, but we have serious concerns about the electrical demand and use of lithium batteries which are known not to be all that green”和第四段中的“Drones are not without their own negative issues such as scaring horses or crashing into birds, and may bother animals and members of the public.”

根据第二段中的“In the 1960s, American psychologist David Premack developed a theory now known as the Premack Principle. He explained that doing something you're more likely to do can be a reward for doing something you don't actually want to do.”和第三段中的“Recent studies keep showing that giving yourself rewards can help improve your work and happiness.”

One possible version:
My Favorite Chinese Festival
Good morning, everyone. I'm Li Hua, the president of the English Club. It's my great honor to make a speech here. My topic today is “My Favorite Chinese Festival”.
My favorite Chinese festival is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, family members gather together to appreciate the full moon and enjoy delicious mooncakes. People often give mooncakes to each other as gifts, symbolizing unity and completeness.
This festival teaches us the value of togetherness and gratitude, making it truly special to me. Thank you for listening.
第二节
One possible version:
“It is only 24c change left. What would you like to buy ” said the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper was slightly annoyed that the kids had stopped my conversation with him. They pointed at different candies behind the glass display. “Five of those!” the younger brother said. “And five of the yellow ones, too. My sister likes them.” The shopkeeper said, “That is more than plenty for the change.” “It's OK. They can have whatever they want,” I said with a smile. “It's Christmas Day today, and you can add it to my order.”
The two boys clapped hands(拍手), a traditional way of saying thanks to me. I told them to get whatever they wanted. “Can we add five candles, for Mum, Dad, my sister, my brother and me, too ” the older brother politely asked me. I nodded, and the two brothers started dancing with joy. In all, their order cost me less than $5. But I could tell from their grinning faces that I might as well have been their Santa. With my drinks, I walked to my parents and brothers. We all smiled, seeing those happy figures gradually disappear in our vision.
