It is a cold, dark winter evening—the kind of night that can have runners struggling to find the encouragement to run out. But there will be none of the usual “shall-I-shan't-I ” dialogue going on in Sarah Donaghy's head, because tonight is Food Bank Run.
Donaghy, a teacher and the welfare officer for Fareham Running Club, organised the first Food Bank Run in February 2018. “The idea was that, instead of our usual training run, we'd fill backpacks with food to donate to the local food bank and run there, where volunteers would be waiting to receive it,” she says. Donaghy was expecting about 20 members to take part: “I lost count by the time I got to 70.”
Claire Johnson, the community team leader at the Waypoint Hub, which houses a food bank, says, “It was an amazing and emotional experience to see so many runners arrive at our building, bringing much-needed supplies.” But it wasn't just the food bank that benefited from it. “The runners loved it,” says Donaghy. “The following week after the first run, they were all asking when we could do it again.”
A running equipment company, Runr, joined to help with publicity and event cooperation, creating a Food Bank Run website, complete with an interactive(交互式的) map of events. “Last year, more than 500 running groups, clubs, events and parkruns got involved, donating more than 77 tonnes of supplies to food banks in their communities,” says Craig Winter, one of the founders of Runr.
The event spreads a significant factor—joining with others in physical activity that has a real purpose. It is not “I must do this long run because I'm training for a marathon” or “I must exercise because I'm trying to lose weight”, but something greater. “I truly believe that running for a cause changes your view,” Donaghy says. “Yes, you could do it by entering a marathon and raising money for charity, but there's something quite special about handing over food that's going to someone in your community who really needs it.”
24.What did runners do in the Food Bank Run
A.They performed their usual training.
B.They prepared food for the volunteers.

ADHD is a complex disorder that goes far beyond the stereotypical image(刻板印象) of an overactive child unable to sit still in class. It's a lifelong condition that affects both children and adults, impacting various aspects of daily life. While its core involves impaired(受损的) mental processes like planning, focusing, and multitasking, an equally critical yet less recognized challenge is emotional dysregulation(失调)—the difficulty in managing and relieving one's emotional responses, which profoundly impacts work, relationships, and self-esteem.
The emotional experience of ADHD is often described as a roller coaster, characterized by extreme highs and lows that can change rapidly and unpredictably. During the “highs”, individuals may feel an intense surge of energy, creativity, and enthusiasm. They might embark on new projects with uncontrolled optimism, feeling unbeatable and capable of conquering the world. This state of hyper-focus and excitement can be incredibly productive, leading to bursts of creativity and accomplishment.
However, these peaks are often followed by equally intense “lows”. The drop into this emotional low can be sudden and confusing. Feelings of disappointment, frustration, and self-doubt may overwhelm the individual, leading to a sense of paralysis or hopelessness. These lows can be caused by various factors, including perceived failures, criticism, or simply the natural decline of the initial excitement.
The impact of these emotional fluctuations on daily life and relationships can be profound. At work, the highs might lead to bursts of productivity, while the lows can result in missed deadlines and underperformance. In personal relationships, the intensity of emotions can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. Partners, friends, and family members may struggle to keep up with the rapid mood changes, leading to strain in these relationships.
Understanding what ADHD feels like is an ongoing process, not just for those who have it, but for society as a whole. By fostering greater awareness and empathy(共鸣), we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with ADHD to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
28.What is the “roller coaster” used to illustrate
A.The medical treatment process of ADHD.
B.The thrill-seeking nature of ADHD patients.
C.The fast shifts between emotional extremes.
D.The physical restlessness in classroom settings.
29.What does the underlined word “fluctuations” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A.Changes. B.Duration.
C.Extension. D.Decreases.
30.What does the author advise people to do to help those with ADHD
A.Develop stricter behavioral guidelines.
B.Promote medication as the primary solution.
C.Focus more research on childhood symptoms.
D.Show them more understanding and support.
31.Where is the text probably taken from
A.A personal blog.
B.A book review.
C.A philosophy book.
D.A mental health website.

Many economists(经济学家) today believe that self-interest is what drives competition and growth in market economies. However, in an increasingly interconnected society, it is even more important to have group skills. Therefore, we should encourage cooperation to better prepare children for the future.
In the present time marked with digital economies, cooperation is a precious skill to have. As a research study conducted by Google shows, skills such as good communication and cooperation are important to employees compared to technical skills or knowledge. In contrast, intense(激烈的) competition and individualistic behaviour may destroy social relations in the community of coworkers. Since no man is an island, even the most competitive staff will not be able to pursue his goals effectively without the help of others who are able to share a common understanding.
Moreover, encouraging cooperation helps develop a healthy sense of self-esteem in children that better prepares them for the competitive working world. The competitive culture includes higher anxiety and depression among university students and office workers. It is primary for the builders of our future to be based on mutually beneficial cooperation rather than self-centred competition. Teamwork can help a maturing individual realize that each has his or her own unique set of abilities and that another person's talents do not weaken the value of his or her talents.
We should encourage a spirit of cooperation more than a spirit of competition in children to better prepare them for an uncertain future. Cooperation opens for an individual a gateway to diverse skills and talents of others and importantly, enhances our chances of solving problems of the future. Furthermore, since cooperative activities can build confidence in children, it will also promote healthy competition within a generation that can better understand and tolerate others' weaknesses.
32.What will intense competition lead to according to the study
A.It can promote communication between people.
B.It may bring damage to partners' relationships.
C.It will weaken one's ability to solve problems.
D.It enables one to share common views with others.
33.What does the author agree with according to paragraph 3
A.Only by cooperation can children develop self-esteem.
B.One's abilities and another's talents can't work together.
C.It is important for builders of the future to learn to cooperate.
D.Higher anxiety and depression don't exist among students.
34.What characteristic might cooperation have, as is mentioned in the passage
A.Focusing on self-centred competition.
B.Reducing the possibility of success.
C.Pursuing individual goals effectively.
D.Accepting teammates' shortcomings.
35.What is the author's intention to write the article
A.To encourage a teamwork spirit in children.
B.To support fierce competition among children.
C.To warn children of uncertain trouble in the future.
D.To build confidence in children through competition.

Forgiveness
To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to recent research.
36 Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. 37 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurts you does not intend to apologize. He may not have wanted to hurt you or just doesn't see things the same way. 38 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upsets you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes your pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
39 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she is acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself. 40 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.
A.Why should you forgive
B.How should you start to forgive
C.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D.Try to see things from your offender's angle.
E.For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F.To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
G.If you wait for other people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi. One time, I was called at midnight to pick someone up. When I arrived, the building was completely dark except for one light in a window.
I walked to the door and knocked. After a long wait, the door opened. A small woman in her 80s stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.
“Would you carry my suitcase out to the car ” she said. I took her suitcase and gave her my arm. We walked slowly to the street. She kept thanking me for my kindness.
“It's nothing,” I told her. “I try to treat my passengers the way I want my mother treated.”
“You're such a good boy,” she said. When we got in the taxi, she gave me an address. Then she asked, “Could you drive through downtown ”
“It's not the shortest way,” I answered.
“I don't mind,” she said. I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice(临终安养院).”
I saw her eyes shining with tears.
“I don't have any family left,” she continued. “The doctor says I don't have very long time.”
I quietly turned off the meter (计价器). “What road do you want me to take ” I asked.
For hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked. We drove through the neighbourhood where she and her husband had lived. Sometimes she asked me to just slow down while she sat staring into the darkness, saying nothing.
As the sun was coming up, she suddenly said, “I'm tired. Let's go now.”
We drove in silence to the hospice. As we pulled up, two nurses were waiting for us.
They helped her into a wheelchair.

根据第二段第一句“The emotional experience of ADHD is often described as a roller coaster, characterized by extreme highs and lows that can change rapidly and unpredictably.”
根据第四段中的“At work, the highs might lead to bursts of productivity, while the lows can result in missed deadlines and underperformance.” 故选A。

根据最后一段最后一句“Furthermore, since cooperative activities can build confidence in children, it will also promote healthy competition within a generation that can better understand and tolerate others' weaknesses.”
根据第一段最后一句“Therefore, we should encourage cooperation to better prepare children for the future.”和最后一段第一句“We should encourage a spirit of cooperation more than a spirit of competition in children to better prepare them for an uncertain future.” 故选A。
第二节

38.G 根据段落主旨句“Don't wait for an apology.”
根据下文“If you understand your offender”和“write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view”可知,D项“尽量从你的冒犯者的角度看事情。”
40.E 根据段落主旨句“Don't forget to forgive yourself.”

One possible version:
A Community Service Activity
In order to call on more people to learn from Lei Feng, our school organized a community service activity last week. Some student representatives from each class and three teachers took part in it.
We were divided into three groups. Group One were in charge of cleaning up the community centre and picking up the rubbish from the grassland. Group Two went to see the elderly in the nursing home with fresh fruit and helped clean their rooms. Group Three handed out leaflets to residents, appealing to everyone to protect the environment and care for others.
Through this activity, we experienced true happiness by helping others. Everyone could make a difference to our beautiful community.
第二节
One possible version:
“How much do I owe you ” she asked me, reaching for her purse. I shook my head and said, “Nothing. It was my pleasure to be with you on this journey.” She looked at me with a mixture of surprise and gratitude in her eyes. “You've been so kind to an old woman like me. You made my last night memorable,” she said softly. I bent down and gave her a gentle hug. “You take care, ma'am,” I whispered. She nodded, and then the nurses wheeled her away. I watched her go, hoping that she would find peace in the hospice.
As I drove back alone, the first rays of sunlight bathed the city. I thought about the woman and her story. It made me realize how important it is to show kindness and compassion to others, especially those who are in need. I felt a sense of fulfillment that I had been able to bring a little bit of joy and comfort to her in her final hours. From that day on, I made a promise to myself to always be more patient and understanding with my passengers. And whenever I see an elderly person, I will remember that woman and the impact she has had on me. The experience has changed me, and I know that I will never forget her.
