Among the world’s waste-recycling pioneers(垃圾回收先驱), Germany is the leader. The country has quite a detailed way of sorting their waste-down to the color of glass waste, the type of paper, the separate bin for metals, etc.
Here below are what you should know about Germany’s waste sorting system:
◇You are expected to gather your waste in your apartment/housing area’s local public garbage bins.
◇There are commonly several types of public garbage bins available in the German’s apartment/housing areas:
Blue bin (垃圾箱)— for paper and cardboard
Green and white bin — for glass, different bins for differently colored glass, not available for holiday decorations and lights
Yellow/orange bin — for plastic and metals
Brown bin — for goods that can be changed naturally by bacteria into substances that don’t harm the environment, like leftovers, fruit and vegetables
Gray/black bin — for everything else that can’t be recycled such as used cat litter and animal waste
◇Some items don’t belong in these public garbage bins. Items like used batteries, electronics, unused paints, and lights must be returned to the special agent/locations so they can be properly recycled. Other items such as clothes, shoes, and oversized rubbish and furniture are advised to be donated or sold.
◇There’s this thing called Pfand in Germany, a certain part of the price for a bottled drink that you get back if you send back the bottle to certified (有资历的) shops. German law requires shops over a certain size selling bottled drinks have a Pfandruckgabestelle, or place for bottles with deposits (押金). These bottles usually made of glass or plastic will be refilled. Of course, there’re strict health regulations.
21. Which bin should the fallen leaves be classified into?
A. The blue bin. B. The brown bin. C. The grey/black bin. D. The green and white bin.
22. How can Germans deal with some used sneakers?
A. By returning it to special agents. B. By placing it in a specific location.
C. By giving it away to those in need. D. By donating it to a Pfandruckgabestelle.
23. What is the aim of Pfand?
A. To collect money for some shops. B. To help shops reuse plastic or glass.
C. To reduce the broken bottles. D. To encourage bottles to be returned.
B
Growing up in rural(农村的) communities, I always had a love of the countryside, animals and nature. The books I read as a child often had animals at their heart—The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, Charlotte's Web.
Farming, however, was something I experienced later in life, in my teenage years. It's something I instantly connected with, and I feel fortunate that my children have been able to grow up helping out on the farm and spending lots of time with our livestock and pets.
It's so important to get a connection with farming at an early stage. We all eat food, so being familiar with where it comes from and what goes into producing it is a natural thing. If a spark of interest can be ignited early, it can only be a good thing going forward. It's a joy to see the children's faces light up on school visits when they see photos of animals on our family farm and watch the video of an egg hatching(孵化). Animals have a unique magic all their own.
Being around animals also teaches children what they can take with them into adulthood. It builds foundations of responsibility, kindness, as well as a strong will and problem-solving skills. We work together as a family a lot on the farm, which builds a strong work ethic(道德观) and a sense of teamwork—both fantastic life skills.
I'm a firm believer that you don't know what you're going to love until you try it. My hope is that if children from non-rural backgrounds get a taste of what it's like on a farm, they might discover something they love.
24. How does the author lead into the topic
A. By showing his desire to keep animals. B. By recommending his childhood reads.
C. By sharing his own experience with nature. D. By comparing his farm life with his children's.
25. What does the underlined word "ignited" in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Expressed. B. Awakened. C. Weakened. D. Kept.
26. What role does an early contact with farming and animals play in children's growth
A. A time killer. B. A character builder. C. A social connector. D. An emotional comforter.
27. Which statement does the author probably agree with
A. Well begun is half done. B. What pains us shapes us.
C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Interest starts with practice.
C
“Don’t get dirty!” was once often shouted by parents angrily watching their children destroy their best clothes. It was unavoidable that children’s whites would turn brown before the day was over.
Today, many parents may secretly hope their children can have the chance to pick up a bit of dirt. With the rise of city life, and the attraction of video games and social media, contact with nature is much less than in the past. For many, there is simply no opportunity to get muddy. According to recent research, the dirt outside contains friendly microorganisms (微生物) that can train the immune system (免疫系统) and build the body against illnesses, such as anxiety.
The findings show that outdoor exercise is not only beneficial because of the chance to run around free, but certain natural materials, such as soil and mud, also have powerful microorganisms which have positive effects on children’s health. Outdoor play can also offer valuable learning experiences. For example, the act of rubbing and shaping materials like mud or sand can help children develop their senses and movement.
Such activities — away from the house or classroom — may also help children to find ways to deal with emotions that may be hard to explore in other environments. So-called “sandtray therapy (沙盘疗法)”, which includes using sand to express one’s thoughts and feelings, is an accepted form of guidance for children who are struggling to express their inner feelings.
Surprisingly, people who spent most of their childhood in the countryside show a better reply to stressful events like public speaking compared with those who grew up in cities. “The people who grew up in cities are kind of ‘walking time bombs’ when facing the stress we meet today. However, people who have spent lots of time in nature since childhood generally make a quicker recovery and are more positive,” says Christopher A. Lowry, a professor of the University of Colorado Boulder.
28. What’s the author’s purpose of writing paragraph 1
A. To introduce the topic. B. To share an opinion.
C. To tell a funny story. D. To describe characters.
29. What is a benefit of outdoor exercise
A. Gaining learning experiences. B. Experiencing the inner emotions.
C. Changing the immune system. D. Discovering more microorganisms.
30. What makes some people called “walking time bombs”
A. They may cause danger to the public. B. They perform well in speaking in public.
C. They get affected by stress more easily. D. They keep a positive and energetic state all the time.
31. In which part of a website can you find the text
A. Culture. B. Health. C. Economy. D. Technology.
D
Black Friday isn’t what it once was. Less than 15 years ago, it was common for people to wake up at early hours to drive to a store, where they would stand in line, waiting for the doors to open in order to get the best deals.
Those people stay, but not in the numbers they used to, thanks to online shopping. But as AI becomes entrenched in people’s habits, it could have an increasingly large role in Black Friday.
A growing number of buyers will be depending on Al to help them find deals. Some 33% of the people in a 2025 survey said they plan to use AI as part of their holiday shopping double the number who did last year. Many say the tech could help them with gift ideas and product discovery. A separate study from another marketing platform (平台) found that 56% of buyers say they’ll use AI tools among black Friday.
AI can do a lot more than help people think of creative gifts, of course. GenAI can research prices and recommend the best deal, in some cases even buying the products for you. And a growing number of people are taking advantage of that. Traffic from AI platforms to retail (零售) sites in July was up by 4,700%. And the company says there will be an increase in Al usage of between 515% and 550% this holiday season, compared to 2024.
To use AI for finding deals, first make a clear list of what you want to buy. Be very specific (确切的) about the product details when asking the chatbot. For example, if you want a computer, mention the exact model and your preferences. The AI will then search for the best prices and may also suggest cash-back apps. However, always check the results on the store’s website yourself, as prices can change quickly. This method saves you time and makes holiday shopping easier.
32. What does the underlined word “entrenched in” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Deeply fixed in. B. Greatly influenced by.
C. Free from. D. Affected by.
33. What can be inferred from the numbers in the 3rd and 4th paragraphs
A. Human shoppers prefer off-season shopping. B. Traditional shopping is out of daily life.
C. Retailers use AI to design better deals. D. AI has reshaped our shopping habits.
34. What is suggested for using AI to find deals
A. Asking AI for gift ideas . B. Checking the real-time prices.
C. Avoiding using cash-back apps. D. Making general product descriptions.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. The Risks of Using AI. B. The Fall of Black Friday.
C. AI: A Game Changer for Shopping. D. Online Shopping: A Way to Change Holidays.

I’ll never forget the autumn when I met Sam, who was a quiet boy that always sat alone during lunch. I was new at school, trying hard to get along with the loud, confident students. Melissa was a single parent of three small children, working at a low-paid job. Money was always tight and she had to work hard to make ends meet. But they still felt blessed with a roof over their heads, food on the plate, clothes on their backs, and even if not a lot, always enough. Not knowing they were poor, the kids just thought their mother was strict in money management. Melissa was really glad about that.
Christmas was just around the corner. Although there wasn't budget for a lot of gifts, Melissa planned to please the kids with a family party. She prepared weeks ahead of time, asking one by one what the kids wanted for Christmas. Fortunately, Melissa managed to spare $ 80 dollars for the whole family to enjoy the fun of Christmas shopping.
The big day arrived. Mellissa drove the kids to a nearby Walmart and gave each kid a twenty-dollar bill. “Now, my children,” she announced, “you have two hours to pick a gift in the supermarket. Then we will meet back at the gate.” Excited, the children scattered (四散) and rushed into the supermarket.
Melissa smiled. She looked at her own note and put it back into her pocket. Well, the children's shining faces were the most precious Christmas gift for her, weren't they Sitting in the car, she waited patiently, imagining what gifts the kids would choose. She couldn't wait to share their joy.
Two hours later, the kids came back one by one. Tom and Tick rushed to their mother, eyes twinkling with excitement. They showed their gifts to Melissa and jumped with joy. The third child, Ginger, was obviously left behind, who dragged her feet to the car. To everyone's surprise, Ginger was empty-handed. Melissa said nothing, asked the kids to get into the car and headed home:

My Family Time Project
To strengthen family bonds, our school newspaper has launched the “Family Time Project”, and I’ve created a plan full of exciting activities.
My project has two key parts. First, we will have a weekly “Screen-Free Hour” where we put away our phones and enjoy each other’s company, perhaps by playing board games or taking a walk together. Second, I will help with one household chore every day, like washing the dishes after dinner, to show my appreciation for my parents’ hard work.
I believe this project will bring us closer. Through these shared moments, we can have more meaningful conversations and better understand each other. I’m sure it will fill our home with more laughter and warmth, making our relationship stronger than ever.
第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
【答案】参考范文:
Driving home, everyone was talking about their gifts in high spirits except the youngest daughter, Ginger. Feeling puzzled, Melissa asked what she had bought for Christmas. “Nothing.” Ginger whispered, lowering her head. Other kids stopped talking and turned to Ginger. “Are you kidding Did you lose your money ” They stared at the little girl, their faces lighting up with surprise. Ginger shook her head and said that she gave the bill to a man who was begging outside the supermarket. The man in rags was standing in cold weather. There was no doubt that he was homeless and had a hard time.
“We have so much, but the homeless man doesn't have anything,” Ginger explained. “I am willing to share my happiness with him. I hope he can buy warm clothes or treat himself to a good dinner.” She added, with eyes shining with excitement. Hearing her daughters' words, Melissa felt a sense of pride swept through her. “What you did is right, Ginger. You are such a kind child that we are proud of you,” she said. Arriving home, they had a small party and the other kids offered to share their gifts with Ginger. It was the special experience that made the kids realize sharing is important.

But one morning, my wife asked me to buy some bread on the way home, so I took a 10-dollar note in my pocket. While I was running through the park, a young man knocked into me. He apologized and continued running. I thought it was strange, so I checked my pocket and found that the money was missing. I immediately ran after the young man and took him by his arm. I shouted and asked him to give me back the 10 dollars. This frightened him, and he put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away quickly. I bought the bread and went back home. I told my wife the experience. “But you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table,” she said.
